Well, in reading quite a few of the report write ups I can see that I am about to embark on quite the journey with Body of Change and LA Fitness. I have had a membership with LA Fitness' Body of Change for 3 months now.
I have had one appointment with a trainer. The one appointment was almost a no-go. As I approached the BOC desk my trainer was arguing with the manager in charge that day that he did not want to do the training session (unaware that I was standing behind him). The trainer did not know me from Adam, so it wasn't anything personal. He had agreed to stay 30 minutes late that day to do my session since the last 8 sessions i had scheduled had been no shows on the part of the trainer. Oh, one week it was that there location across the river was in dire straights and he had to go there (turned into two weeks) - never received a phone call letting me know that my appointment was cancelled.
So, approximately 6 times, i left messages with my phone number for the general manager for BOC to call me to reschedule my appointments. Not one of my requests resulted in a return call. Only when I physically showed up at the desk was an appointment finally made for me.
After this reoccuring problem finally got to me, I decided that I would request a refund. Well, Andrew, the general manager, asked me if I read the contract. I said that I did not recall signing a contract and that I would like a copy of that contract. He said he could give me a copy of the contract they use. I told him i wanted a copy of the one i signed. I told him to fax it to me. He said he could not fax it to me b/c their fax machine only faxed internally to other LA Fitnesses (I have never heard of such a fax machine). Anyway, I told him he could go over to Giant next door and fax it from there. he said he didn't have the contract and that he sent it to headquarters.
SO, I asked for the phone number for headquarters and a contact name. He told me he could not give me that information. I then said I wanted to speak with the General Manager of that LA Fitness...he said that the GM could not help me. I told him that I was aware taht BOC had mergered with LA Fitness and I was sure he could help. He insisted that they were two separate companies. (the woman at the front desk assured me that they had merged)
Andrew was also kind enough to tell me that if I cancelled my gym membership, it would not cancel my BOC and therefore i would still have to pay the balance for the entire year.
About 5 hours ago I left a message for a woman named Jennifer who is apparently the Customer Accounts Service Rep. She has not returned my call.
I do have the numbers for the head of corporate billing in Irvine, California, and the PO Box address: Head of Corp. Billing: Robert Davis 949.255.7875 or 949.255.7375
There are so many bad things that have happened through my relationship with BOC that I could probably write a book. Someone really needs to make this public in the national news. What they are doing to their "customers" is horrendous. If I do not hear from Jennifer today, I will be filing a complaint with the BBB prior to contacting Robert Davis.
I never would have thought I should do background research on a facility of this size and with the kind of public recognition they have. I have learned my lesson. Had I been here first, I never would have joined.
Oh, add on to this that the facility is filthy! the equiptment is grotesque. the footpads on the ellipticals appear as though they have been in outdoor storage and never cleaned. my allergies are so bad every time I leave the gym it is unbelievable. They have a woman who walks around with a duster and a rag covered in something greasy cleaning the lockers and the sinks in the ladies locker room and using a duster on the other surfaces throughout the gym, but apparently cleaning the equiptment is not in her contract...(she probably cannot get out of her contract either...)
