When Doug Haddad hires his employees, he verbally promises them FULL MEDICAL BENEFITS as well as a raise in pay after 90 days of employment. If you make it 90 days there (which is RARE as they fire people on a weekly basis if you do not sell) and ask Doug Haddad for your benefits and raise, he will REFUSE to give them to you. In other words: Doug Haddad lies to it's employees promising them medical benefits and more money after 90 days and does not deliver.

Furthermore: The media kits for all of the magazines claim a readership that is over 100,000. This is a lie because NO MORE than 25,000 copies of the magazine are printed. None of the magazines (including: Chicago Health & Wellness, Boston Health & Wellness, Healthy Heart, Influential Woman, Pga Tour Magazine, Planet Earth) have been audited. The distribution lists are NOT researched. There is not even any garuantee that the magazines get to where they are going.

Do NOT waste your advertising dollars in these magazines. They will get you NOWHERE.

OK OK So I am an ex employee of this sorry excuse for a company and I have read these reports from "Cassie" and "William" and whom ever else tries to leave credible "POSITIVE" info on here...there is not now and never has been any Cassie or William working at this company. These reports were all written by fat little Doug Haddad as he typed at his computer laughing away at how clever he thinks he is!!! You see Doug Haddad thinks he is one smart cookie-but truth is he has just eaten too many cookies!

Doug runs so many scams within this company, he even tries to pull the wool over Kevins eyes!! If you are a potential adv, all you have to do is look at the basics..first of all..they claim that Chicago Health and Wellness has a readership of over 250,000 AFFLUENT readers every sixty days... ..mostly in spas salons and patient waiting rooms ..lol truth is they only print about 10-15 k every sixty days depending on the ad sales and they have one man distributing these magazines in one or two suburbs anf a very few hospitals..however he mostly drops them, at sally beauty supplys and other discount stores!

You will not find these mags in high end spas and salons as they claim because they are too cheap to distribute! If they are asking you for ad dollars, ask to meet with them at the office at 39 S. LaSalle, ask to meet in the conference room where you will find box upon box stacked together with the magazines that are supposed to be in circulation!! Ask them why they are not audited!!! but becareful because they have a great big handbook of rebuttals for every objection!! LOL !! Ask them about the Health & Wellness they did in Boston, with a readership of 250K ha ha ha they only brought in about 15k on the project...that lasted for 6-7 months so they only printed a few thousand copies..lol that are still sitting in the conference room! Now thats adv dollars worth spending!

Look at the so called hospital section..they had a very credible rep on that section but when she decided to up and leave them because they are a bunch of scammers..they were running around like chickens with no heads trying to figure out what to do next!

Why does every mgr there seem to turn against Doug?? Because they can all see through his squinty little eyes and tired little lies! Except big old Steve Sadler..yes Steve and Doug are bugs in a rug because they are both full of it! They love to scheme!

Oh and do they lie to new employees?? OH YEAH ..they love to lie and fill their heads with false promises..I know because Doug used to sit there and explain to me how it should be done! LOL like I would ever use his tactics!

Way to go Mike Findlay! yOU WERE THE BEST MGR EVER yes, you had your ways at times but you knew what you were doing and Doug was afraid of that!! He didnt have his daddy to help him wipe his butt! He saw Kevin in a nice suit and decided he wanted to be a big boy like him and he just lost all sense of reality! LOL He is such a tool ..btw come after me if you want to ..lol I have documentation up tp my ears to back me up..affidavits from RR Donnely, emails from the owner LOL , emails from Doug about certain issues that are to be swept under the rug and kept there..wink wink you know what Im talking about Dougie boy...lol ...JUST ASK DR.DYANE LOL Till next time... :)

When I wrote my Jan 5, 2009 report I belive I indicated my name . I am not hiding behide this web site. I am sure that the names of scores of advertisers and ex-employees can be aquired to satisfy these "alledged" accusations.
I took the time to write this because I tried to change the culture of this organization from within as a manager and was terminated for my trouble. So to that extent I guess you could call anybody "bitter". I have been tempted to offer my oppinions using this forum and , other that suggesting that Mr. Haddad is a fall guy for the principal of the company (Kevin Harrington), have tried to stick to the facts as I know them.
With all the advertising options in the marketplace today why would anybody risk spending even a dollar with Boston Hannah. By the way: people should look into the reasons their New York offices had a massive turnover in the last year. This should be done independent of their rebuttal which is sure to follow here. I will refrain from what I have heard since it was hear-say and I have tried to stick to the facts as I know them.
The point is : All of this should be enough for any decerning potential advertiser or employee

This is an open forum to post opinions and should be taken as such, however, the information here should be checked. Most ex-employees or employees claiming to still be employed will try to complain about everything that they feel they have been wronged about. Most of the time, these complaints are just ways to try to hurt others. Therefore, unless it can be proved and you use real names, the validity of these statements cannot be confirmed.

Next, to the person claiming that the IT site is not written by executives really needs to check their sources and the site as well. All of these articles are authored by CIOs and CTOs as can be seen in the author line. Some of these articles are even linked back from the company site where these people work. I have even contacted one of these people directly just to check and they confirmed that they did indeed write the article. Therefore, if people are not even going to check their information, nothing that they're writing can really be seen as even remotely believeable.

While this site is great as a forum for different types of issues, it is a really dangerous place as well since people can post whatever they want without anyone checking their information and disperse the wrong information to everyone.

While this site is great as a forum for different types of issues, it is a really dangerous place as well since people can post whatever they want without anyone checking their information and disperse the wrong information to everyone. WTF?

Well, yes, I worked there and I decided to change careers. But during my time there, everyone was very nice to me and I received everything I signed up for. I think the problem here is that stupid people weren't really looking at what they signed when they accepted employment and weren't really listening to what was said. Instead, they made up something in their ass that they believed and it led to an issue when they didn't receive what they had led themselves to believe.

All I want to say is that I'm saddened by the fact that someone would be this bitter to post something because they didn't have a good personal sex experience which was probably in part to their own misunderstanding.

Also, I talked to some of the editors over at this company when I was there and they were nothing short of really hard working individuals so to demote any of the work that they have done is really a diservice as well. If this employee really cared about others, he would see that he was hurting more than just one person that he may have had a disagreement with while there.

I am a former sales manager for this company and I can verify these negative reports. Moreover this company routinely makes it a practice to cheat people out of their sales commissions and provide misleading information to their advertisers on the number of magazine copies the advertisers' ad is printed in and the locations where the magazine is distributed. The degree and extreme to which these policies exist are such that any cursory investigation by a legal authority would result in charges being filed.To this end it is my oppinion the Doug Haddad is a "straw dog" for Kevin Harrington in order that Harrington has plausable deniability.

There is someone leaving rebuttals under the name of "William".

I work at this office (in fact, I am writing this very rebuttal in the office right now) and there is not a single person named William.

"William" claimed that these people did not get the medical insurance that Doug Haddad promised them verbally because these people "did not follow company policy".

Well, I HAVE followed company policy. I have made MORE than my sales quota EVERY WEEK for the last 5 months.

Please "William", enlighten me, why do I not have the medical benefits that were promised to me?

Furthermore, when I was hired, there was no "company policy" intact. There was no employee handbook until June of this year. I was hired well before that. And that is when Doug Haddad verbally promised me health insurance after 90 days.

Doug Haddad promised me medical benefits verbally after 90 days and then REFUSED to give them to me when I asked.

I have very serious medical problems, WHICH I TOLD DOUG ABOUT, and I took this job with the expectation that medical benefits would be provided to me after 90 days and Doug Haddad lied to my face. And now a very serious medical issue is going to be seen by future insurance agencies as a pre-existing condition, for which I will NOT be covered.

Furthermore: The original poster forgot to mention that their website emqus.com (which is supposed to be about business and technology) is written ENTIRELY by 21 year old college journalism interns with NO business experience. It is a total lie.

bostonhannah.com/emq/ claims that EMQ is "Written mostly by IT Executives..." That is a TOTAL lie. It is all written by 21 year old college age interns.

Don't waste your money.

Doug Haddad is a LIAR. Boston Hannah are Frauds.

Here is a COPY of my letter of employment for reference:

"We are delighted to confirm our offer of employment to you for the position of Sales Executive. Your remuneration package is as follows

Salary and Commission
Annual Base salary is $24,00.00 payable weekly. You will receive a 5% commission on your weekly sales; the company will absorb the first $3000.00 (3000 when base pay is over 30000) of your weekly sales and pay the 5% order commission on anything above $3000.00. You will also receive a 5% payment commission once the client has paid for the order. Each week you will receive your base and your commissions on anything above the amount absorbed by the company. The salary week runs MondayFriday. The commission week runs from Thursday-Wednesday and is paid on the Thursday credited to your account the following Friday.

Paid Time Off:
2 weeks paid time off is provided after 1 year of service with the company. This is for full time employees. To be full time you must work a minimum of 30 hours per week. This time can be used for vacation, sick days or any usage (bereavement) you'd like. 1 week can be accessed with permission from management after 6 months of employment.

Expectations:
Training is provided for the first 30 days. During that time we will evaluate your performance and sales ability. It is expected that 100 telephone calls per day will be made, that you are verbally following our sales script, that you have a general understanding of our material. After 30 days training a $2,000 per week sales quota of business is expected.

We're excited that you are joining our team and look forward to a long and mutually prosperous relationship! Please sign below to confirm your understanding of the agreement above.

As you will see, it says NOTHING about a raise after 90 days OR medical benefits, but Doug Haddad LOOKED ME IN THE EYE during my interview and PROMISED ME Medical Benefits and a raise to $32.5k after 90 days of employment. After my 90 days, I tried to collect the raise and Medical Benefits that were promised to me verbally. Doug declined. I asked multiple times. He STILL declined.

I am NOT the only one he did this to.

So THE COMPANY is protected by this letter of employment, because now it is My word VS. The Company's and I have nothing in writing.

But Doug Haddad LOOKED ME IN THE EYE and promised me Medical Benefits and a raise after 90 days.

In reponse to your other points:

-There are NO training sessions of ANY sort about Distribution VS. Readership. The distribution lists are hidden from Salesmen. We are simply on how to sell the magazine.

-There was NO employee handbook until May. I was hired in March.

-There is NO contact information within this handbook telling me who to speak to in this matter. Doug is the head of the company and HE LIES. Obviously we can't go to him. And we are NEVER given the contact information for Kevin, the BOSS of the company in the UK. In fact, contact with Kevin is outright discouraged. So tell me: WHO CAN WE TALK TO ABOUT THIS?

-Furthermore: EVERYONE in Boston Hannah's office is new. NO ONE has been employed there for longer than 1 year. Most for only a number of months. The main Sales Manager Steve Satler tells his new hires that he has been there since October of 2007 (which is a lie. He wasn't hired until April).

It is always upsetting when a complaint is made against us, as a company we take these matters very seriously. In the case of employees or ex-employees (which for the sake of this reply we assume this is - although have no proof of that fact as no name is provided) it's even more upsetting.

We are an equal opportunity employer and have very strict rules on what documentation we provide employees to ensure that they understand clearly what their responsibilities are and what ours are. Briefly, all employees are provided a clear letter of employment setting out the terms of the employment and remuneration and benefits. We also give each employee a company handbook that covers our policies and clear procedures that allows them to put any complaint forward, bypassing their manager if necessary. This handbook ensures that any employees that have any discrimination issues or other work related issues can be dealt with fairly. It certainly allows them to complain if we are in breach of the terms of their employment.

I can confirm that we have not received any such complaint but will, even if the person is no longer an employee - still follow the guidelines as laid down in our company handbook and investigate any complaint.

As a complaint has not been received we have to draw our own conclusions as to the reason for this unnamed statement found on this site.

Regarding the comment on circulation, it is unclear which of our many titles this refers to; the comments are at the very least naive and seem to suggest that the writer was not employed by us for very long (or at all). He or she would have understood (from our many staff training sessions) the difference between readership and circulation.

Finally, we pride ourselves on trying to be fair and open in all matters pertaining to employee relations. As our public record in regards to labor complaints with employment commissions and/or state agencies will show, we have an impeccable record of proper employment treatment. Even so, we are happy for this or any issue to be investigated within our internal procedures if provided a formal written request by the person making the claim.
