Having Owned Breitling watches for over twenty years and being a family of breitling enthusiasts it Grieves me to have to write this report about Breitling USA having owned ten or eleven of their atches and currently having seven in my household as im witing this report im somewhat familar with the product and the company
this report is about a 20 year old Breitling chronospace that I purchased new from little switzerland on st Thomas in 1994 I have of course done the maintance and this watch has had two major sevices completed on it in the last three years as a result of a pin breaking at the lug that held the watch to the bracelet the watch took a fall th back came of the watch and was damaged as a result I ordered a new case back it took six weeks to arrive in typical breitling fashion and my jewler an unnamed Breitling servicer in texas attempteed to replace the case back after four O rings that seal the case back failed he sent the watch to Breitling who replaced the inner case resealed the watch repaired the bad circut affected in the fall from pic breaking and sent it back to me in polished and working order
the repair took eight weeks although they knew the repair was due to a failed bracelet pin and the servicing dealer absorbed the cost of 263.00 invoiced as he felt responsible for the issue i was content with the watch until I took it to my sink to clean it as I put dish soap on the bezel area and started to clean the watch with a soft sponge the bezel came off in my hand my watch maker advised me to contact Breitling I called th number and asked for gerhardt the technial director for Breitling USA voice mail left my number no response second call voice mail no response third call asked receptionist to transfer me to the president of Breitling USA then Gerhardt became avaliable
after discussing the bezel coming off in my hand He stated send the watch back to my attention he f ailed to advise me that he was going to be out of the office when the watch arrived i had thought hed appreciate a contact related to quality control as hes the director so alas I sent the watch to Breitling the watch arrived and I called to advise Pam that UPS delivered the watch and it needed to be seen as this is a redo from a watch that was just serviced she said shed take it to the Service manager as gerhardt was out of town
I was expecting a call back instead she sent me an invoice suggesting that i replace the crystal on the watch no mention was made of the failed seal that caused the bezel to come off my watch i immediateley calledd her number and asked her what about thee faulty seal all they want to do is get additonal money out of watch owners I advised Pam that if they had a crystal in stock were prepared to do the work righ now as the watch had ben back in my posession for only one month and worn thre times id agree to the 162.00 price for a new crystal she called back to advie me that the repair would take ten days thats right folks ten days the biggest problem with Breitling is Breitling period
i attempted to contact the New President of Breitling who of course was out of his office hob nobbing with the unsuspecting dealers who will of course double their money thats right folks they make double when you pay retail for one of their watches yet you cant reach him or Gerhardt or any one else at Breitling besidess the rgional rep whos bonus is based on her upselling customers before you lay down cash or write a check to breitling dealers befor the Credit card is swiped ask the dealer owner not the sales person if my wants and needs change what will you give me in trade in value if they will take the watch back in most will not they will advise you if honest that the high margins charged on new breitling watches kills the used market if lucky youll get thirty cents on the dollar so for every thoussand you spend youll only get three hundre back and if reselling the watch forty to fifty percent is current high retail for perfect records and book watches
my position on Breitling is dont BUY ill never own another one of their watches and if looking to buy new from any boutique question their pricing strategy and request to see their invoice offer them ten percent over what they pay as youll hate the watch after your first sevice experience and you need to minimize their loss I have all e mail communications with pam have Photos of my perfect Pristeem 20 year old breitling and all my other Breitling products as for me and my house were selling our watches and may still be wearing better swiss but it wont be Breitling Period !!!!!!!!
