I also have the same story and sent the money. He also sent me 2000 dollars twice but one check bounced. I was told my car would be ready on 2-15-13 and to come get it so I bought a plane ticket for the 22nd. I get an email on 2-6-13 saying he is filing bankruptcy and there is no car. The reason he sends 2000 checks out is because 2001.00 is a felony in NC. He knows that, this guy is a life long criminal. He has been busted for counterfeiting, odometer tampering, theft. He is a real piece of work. I am still going out there on the 22nd. I know where all 3 shops are and I will go there and find out what he plans on doing to pay me back.

I, too, am a victim of Bob Mcelreath.  He has stolen $13,000 of mine.  He gave me $2000 of the $15,000 back and refuses all communications since his contract for the full refund ran out.  Instead of the money, he sent out a bulk e-mail to his 35 other victims (I'm sure you knew you weren't the only one scammed).  The e-mail claimed that I'd coerced his poor underage stepson, Zak Kampert, and that everyone knew he had a 90 day refund policy for widows (my husband died 3 days after being scammed).  Problem, among the other lies, is that he wrote the e-mail more than 90 days after my husband died.  It's been 152 days today and Bob Mcelreath has cut off all communication.  He's a stand up guy stealing from a widow and her kids, not to mention the cancer victims, soldiers, and dozens of others.

The North Carolina Attorney General's Office is looking into him.  I've been told that the FBI is as well.  It's imperative that they get the full picture of this guy's amoral "business" of scamming people.  Please google the NC Attorney General's office and the FBI's internet crime complaint page.  File every report you can.  Ripoffreport won't let us post the sites online.  

Also, google Bob's many aliases:  Pick a Pony, Build a Bandit, Pontiac Pros, Discount Classic Auto Restoration, Common Man Classic Hot Rods. Known e-bay aliases eck0211, turtlevhare, winstoncup2watch, restoguru7881.  You'll find tons of sites and threads on forums about this crook.  It's also a way for us victims to stay in contact and find people to fix the cars that Bob's actually delivered in his version of showroom quality.  Most everyone that I've heard of spend $1000's more to fix their rust buckets with horrible paint jobs and engines that quit as they drive off his lot, parts missing, etc., etc.

What happened with the outcome of this?  I am a potential  victim, email (((ROR redacted)))

I also am a Victim. I did post a report under banditvictim2012. I have gone to the BBB and also reported this to the FBIs IC3 Division, asking for a full refund. However, I have not received anything monetary. I recieved a Case # from the North Carlina Dept of Justice. They gave Bob 15 Days to respond. It has not been quite 15 days but I am sure he will not respond. I just got my response back from BBB and they could not get a hold of him. So the BBB left other options on the response back to me as far as addtional numbers to get legal referrals. I am thinking of contacting the media to see what they think of this situation and would it be worth reporting. I cannot provide my name, number, or email per Scam Reports Terms and Conditions. However, I do check this website often.
