C 1 training school recruited my husband in 2003. They promised he would be able to sign on to one of their trucking companies after completing the CDL training, and would be making $35,000 the first year of driving! He was told when he completed 12 months of employment with PAM Trucking he would only owe $700 for the tuition fees to C 1. My husband was hired by PAM and went to work doing a dedicated run from Janesville, WI to Pontiac, MI. He did that run for 4 months. His paychecks were only $82 a week (net pay)! That was a far cry from the $35K he had been promised, so after 4 mos of trying to support a family of 6 on that so called pay, he quit driving for PAM.

C 1 continually called, and sent letters to us about us owing $4900 for their tuition cost. We set up a monthly payment plan with them, but when we discovered the amount due went from $4900 to over $7300 we quit paying at all! They were charging 18% interest and late fees on top of that.

In August 2006 we got another threatening letter from their attorney-Brian Alsip. We decided to just set up a payment plan with them and get this debt paid off once and for all. Well, by then the balance had gone up to $7853! We could only afford to pay $150 per month, so that's what was agreed. We figured we'd get them off of our backs and in February we'd just pay off the entire balance with our income tax refund. We recieved a letter stating that we had agreed to pay the $150 per month until paid in full, and it would be automatically deducted from our checking account. We figured that was over with...WRONG!!! One of the reasons we decided to take care of the C1 tuition was because we wanted to purchase a house, and we knew we had to clean that debt up on our credit report even though we felt C1 had ripped us off from the start.

We got approved for our mortgage and had disclosed to the lender the situation with C1, and had even sent the lender copies of the letters from C1's attorney etc.

Five days before we were to close on our house loan, C1 decided to submit our agreement to the Marion County Court-even though they're getting our payment and we'd made the agreement with their lawyer! We had no idea they could enter our agreement in Court! I know we should've taken care of the debt to them sooner, but they didn't deliver any of what they'd promised, and we were so financially ruined because of my husband trying to stick it out and make it to the 12 mos with PAM that we couldn't afford to pay it by then.

So, now we can't buy a house, and with C1 still adding on late fees and 8% interest, we will have this hanging over our heads forever.

If anyone out there is considering going to C1/driving school, please be warned! Do not fall for the empty promises from the C1 recruiters unless you are willing to be gone from home for days on end, and bust your butt for a mere $82 a week!!

AUTHOR: Beth - (United States of America)

Did you receive any help from the courts with your issue?  Our account was frozen and completely wiped out last week and we have never received a letter or any kind of correspondence from Drivers Solution about court or anything.  Called the court clerk in Marion Township to find out who took our money and what was going on (thankfully the bank was able to figure the part about the county out for me) because imagine this the phone # left with the bank is only a recording and they never call back nor answer  and yes it is the # to Brian Alsip. The original amount was for $5000 and back in January we were told it was close to being paid off (yes they take our taxes every year) found out that when they took it to court (mind you we knew nothing about court) they were awarded $11246.00. Court Clerk told me to fax a letter to the Judge letting him know all of this and that we had NO knowledge of any of it and see what can be done. Any help, advice or any kind of light to the situation would be greatly appreciated.

C-1 Driver Solutions Scam Artists

AUTHOR: Enoughwiththiscrap - (USA)

Went to C-1 school in St. Louis in 2006. Drove both ways from home everyday (approx. 90 mi one way) Training sucked to say the least. Total of 5 hours behind the wheel, never hooked up or dropped trailer, slid tandems or anything of real value. This "training" can best be described as a way to pass the written and driving test to get the CDL. That is it. In theory then you get hired before you train......NO. Several of the people I started with were told in class they would not be with the company they were told before starting. It became very clear there was NEVER a legitimate job offer PRIOR to training which is their HOOK. It is nothing more than a way for them to get a commission from the trucking company. If you don't pass all of the tests with the company than you are SOL and will owe money to C-1.

I paid the total tuition of $2995 the first day of class. NEVER signed a contract, NEVER spoke to anyone from my new "job" at STAR. When I got my license and called STAR to start I was told there would be a few week delay, I thought okay. When I next spoke to them, I was told to expect to be out on training for 8 weeks without returning home. NOT part of the "promise" I received from C-1 of home "at least" every 2 weeks ! In the mean time inorder to eat I took a job with a local company, home every night, pay better than what I would have made from Star. I chose to exercise the option of paying up front, did not go to Star and now C-1 is suing me in small claims court in Indianapolis for over $10,000 !!!. Here is the kicker. They took a photocopy of my signature and copied it onto a contract and they even initialed that I was using their housing during the "training" !!! I notified them of these issues....their response....."HA ,HA, HA we just ruined your credit rating". Tomorrow, I will be driving 4 hours into another time zone to go to this "court". On the first date in May, which I was NOT notified about, Brian Alsip their in house attorney got the judge to award them a $10,000 judgement against me. NO ONE from Driver Solution was present ! Under Indiana law, small claims awards are limited to $5000, yet here I sit. THEN, without proper notification to me of this so called hearing, I get a letter from my bank that Alsip seized my account and I got another letter from an employer that my wages were garnished !!!

These criminals are out of control. Now I am supposed to tell them about my assests. Well I filed 4 motions against these idiots for the hearing including one for change of venue. Let them come to my state where we follow rules and procedures.

STAY AWAY FROM C-1. Criminals. STAR does not even use them anymore and Alsip could not win the election he ran in for Judge back in April. Think I am making it up ??? Google his name and see for yourself.

Lies set the trap

AUTHOR: Thrillhouse - (United States of America)

Dont defend the actions of this place, because they do lie and they are a loan shark on top of it. Dont pay this company a dime! Both deserve to go under for being lying creeps. I wish the best for the instructors because they are decent people but this whole thing is such a scam its unreal. Seriously school costs go from 2995 to 4995 to 5 years later over 10000 dollars! Seriously? WTF gives them the right to charge $10000 for three weeks of BS training, which by the way I will go under oath and let it be known that they forge numbers on their training time. Threaten me with arrest? Try me in court! Take me to court! $10000 !!!!! I could buy that place for $10000 and the rat hole motel they are affiliated with. NOT ONE DOLLAR FROM ME! MARK MY WORDS! Keep the letters coming and I will organize through social networking to take your operation down.....send another letter I f**king dare you!

Dont Blame C1

AUTHOR: Big Dog Ohio - (U.S.A.)

I agree with driver 109 my father has been driving for forty years and you have to be taking advances. You blame driver solutions for ripping you off when you ripped youself off by not holding up to your end of the deal. Then you expect P.A.M to eat what money they exhausted in your training. For 2 years I have been putting a life long dream "Driving a Big Rig" on hold because of people like u. My thing is this every person is going to have their own experience and their experience may vary do to their actions. I see people call a instructor at C1 "Cussin Guss" did you ever think maybe that is his way of getting his point across, apparently he did becasue the person that refered to him as that passed their training. But For people to post a rip off report on a company because of a bad experience they were responsible for is wrong. For one thing it scares people like me that have the drive and dedication to follow through with the training and one year that these companies require for a succesful career. Each company has it's rights or wrongs and goods and bads but before you post, make sure your posting truth and not falsehood. Driver 109 you keep your wheels turnin hopefully I can to after traing at C1 IN.

I work for PAM (CEX Division)

AUTHOR: Driver 109 - (U.S.A.)

I currently work for PAM transport and know their pay scale. That dedicated run from Janesville, WI to Pontiac, MI would pay much more than that. The milage would lead you to make $117 per trip. I am sure you did that 5-10 times a week (including the return trips). A lot of new drivers get a lot of cash advances and that hurts their end of week total. I have worked with this company for several years and run as a team. We get about 5500-6000 miles a week and have only once had a pay problem. The dispatcher claimed he forgott to pay us for a stop pay, and knowing the guy I completely believe him.

The best suggestions I have are:
1) Drive Legal---Fines are not worth it
2) Get a dispatcher you can trust --- They control your pay
3) Keep up with the paperwork --- This can limit your dispatches
4) Bring your Own Food and Drinks --- Coolers and fridges are cheap. Food at truck stops is expensive
5) Do get cash advances --- You will never get caught up
6) Use your Payback points for Coffee and Sodas --- Save Money
7) Don't Refuse Loads
8) Be On-Time
9) Be Professional- Don't hand in oil covered Paper Work

NOT Brian Alsip's fault we owe C-1 for tuition.

AUTHOR: Terry - (U.S.A.)

I want to state for the record that even though we still feel the promises made by C-1 driving school were never realized by them that their attorney, Brian Alsip is NOT the one at fault, and is actually a decent human being!

After paying our debt to C-1 religiously for over a year, my husband had recently become disabled due to medical reasons and is not working. I phoned Mr. Alsip to make arrangements in reguards to our remaining balance and he was more than understanding. He has put our account on hold until we can afford to finish paying what we owe to C-1.

What a huge relief!! I want to thank Mr. Alsip and apologize to him for blaming him for what we realize was our fault to begin with about US not paying what we knew we owed C-1 from the start!
