First, reading all these reports about C.R. England on Ripoff Report scared me away just days before I was supposed to leave for Cedar Hills, Texas back in October. Then in January I decided to call again to see if I could come and work for the company. To no suprise they said yes.
I left for Cedar Hills, Texas on the second weekend of January. I arrived on Thursday by bus because I was going to the 10 day refresher school. Along with 10 other people we were taken to the hotel and we all checked in. I soon discovered I would be staying in a room with five other guys. WTF? That was my first thought. I ended up rolling out the sleeping bag I brought with me and slept on the floor. Trust me when I say I didn't sleep very well that night.
On my first day I knew certain people would get disqualified when back ground checks, physicals, and drug test were completed. Of the 65 people in the class, only 40 people remained after day one.Day two and day three we spend in class. Two people couldn't pass the test and they were sent home. That actually shocked me some, but I heard they both flunked the test so bad that the instructors felt it wasn't worth the time to have them re-take the test. Now down to 38 in the class.
Soon we began the yard portion of the 10 day refresher course. By the end of Wednesday, some people got frustrated and left, or was asked to leave because they had done so bad in the hard that the instructors didn't want to test them. On Friday, for the 23 of us left, we tested in the yard and I passed along with 19 other people.
Of the 20 of us left standing, seven people left in trucks that afternoon/night. On Saturday another ten took to the roads, and on Sunday I was the third person to leave that day, which mean't I was the last person to get on a truck. My first trainer was a 22 year old kid who was pretty arrogant. On day two I told him to shut the hell up and not to coach me any more after he nearly hit two different guard rails. On day three week I was assigned a new trainer after speeaking with his DM. The new trainer was in his 40's and was a relief from the kid I had just been with. We got along good and I drove with him for the remainder of phase one.
In phase two I was paired with, to my surprise a female trainer. I didn't think they would want males with females but I was told by this female trainer that she was always being paired up with male trainees. On day four she told me we were not getting along which was news to me because we hadn't had one disagreement to that point. "Really? Why do you feel that way I asked." She laughed and said usally she has been "hit on" several times by her former student drivers and usually they have had sex by now. So basically the drift was, have sex with her or she was going to boot me out of the truck. First, I didn't think this was ok, meaning her tone and demands. Second, in fairness to her, she was a decent looking woman after she showered and cleaned up, but not enough for me to sleep with her. So I pretended that we would be naughty after we stopped at a truck stop and showered. After watching her go inside I called her DM and explained the situation. I told her DM I was getting out of the truck and refused to ride with this trainer any longer. The DM told me if I refused to leave with the trainer when she pulled out of the truck stop I would be terminated. I then bluffed the DM and told her DM that I was recording the whole conversation. I then stated that basically he just told me he was support her sexual harrassment and was threatening to fire me if I refused to sleep with her. Then quickly with out missing a beat I implied what kind of a field day my lawyer was going to have in court with this guy and C.R. England and how he would have a hard time explaining himself to a jury. He paused, collected his thoughts and then told me to leave the truck and wait for further instructions. With in 24 hours I was picked up by a new trainer, who was male and we finished out phase two with no issues between us.
Now I have my own truck, which I had to wait four weeks for because I flat refused to lease a truck from C & R England. Yes they still have company drivers despite what some people say. From April until now I have driven solo. What a joke the solo miles have been. I have sat around for days waiting on a load while being told team drivers, or those with students get first priority. Day after day I could feel my DM getting frustrated with me for refusing to team up or take on student drivers. In one week I made as little as $55 dollars while my biggest check after phase two was only $200.
In the five months I've been driving solo I made it home three times for a total of seven days. My wife is very frustrated with the fact that I haven't quit yet. I told her patience is a virtue and that eventually C. R. England will help me more than they realize. ( I told her this in July)
In late August a local company that makes dedicated runs and guarrentees you to be home several nights a week, had an add in the paper. My wife told me about it and I jumped right on it. With over six months trucking experience I was hired immediately.
I then drove my truck straight to Cedar Hills, Texas and asked for an immediate exit interview.
A month later I am home five nights a week. I've made more in two weeks driving this dedicated route for this local company than I did in certain months driving for C.R. England. Yes the stuck it to me and tried to screw me. To a degree they succeed. In the end though I played the game and won.
On a side note my new fleet manager told me that C.R. England tried to ruin me after I left. Not surprised was my answer. I told her the internet was full of stories about how C.R. England tried, attempted, or successfully ruined people. All she said was, "yeah, she knows," and that was the end of that conversation.
