six months or so ago we were called by a credit collection agency saying we owed for past debt. We explained that we never purchased from that company. We didn't hear from them again until two days ago. Again they claim we owe them money and this time they have the middle initial correct because we had given them that information as proof that it was the wrong party they were in search of the when we received the earlier call. (Give them no information!) They also had our father's phone number but not ours. I called an insisted that we had purchased nothing from them that we should owe for. They could give no account information about the purchase. They said either pay or write a letter disputing the claim.

Did you write a letter disputing this debt or did you pay it? Seems to me that Fingerhut or who ever they sold their name or old debts to are really jerks in the way they are going about asking people to pay, and when they insist you pay a debt you know you don't owe and they can't provide you with account information on this supposed debt I don't think they should be able to continue to put neg comments on your credit or freeze bank accounts, I mean I thought you had to hvae a judges signature to freeze a bank account, I know this didn't happen to you but there was another complaint about fingerhut where their bank account was frozen but this person never mentioned being taken to court and having a judgement against them, so if they weren't taken to court how in the world is this company able to freeze bank accounts? This is a really scary thing to hear or read about. Hope it all works out for you.
