I recieved a letter and a card in the mail that said that I had 6,500 credit limit. I was excited because my husband and I want to buy a house and we have to build our credit up. Well I called the number to get my credit card activated and come to find out they charged me 400.00 to have this credit card that come to find out I can only buy items out of their catalog.I have two kids to feed and they ripped my family off.

False Accusions

AUTHOR: Erika - (U.S.A.)

Why don't people read before they call a number to activate their cards I will never know. I have worked for the company for almost 3 years and the update from the EX-Employee is false as well. You do not get fired for answering questions before reaching the checking screen, you get fired for not listening to the customers and not addressing the customers concerns.

Ask questions if you are unsure! Thats what the reps are there for too, to answer your questions. If you weren't able to ask questions it would just be a automated activation process without a live rep at the end, right?

AUTHOR: Lisa - (U.S.A.)

you people need to read things before you sign up for cards, NO place on there does it say CREDIT CARD. it shows a comparison TO a credit card. and it states on the paper it is for shopping in their catalogs.

i used to work on the phones and in the warehouse where the catalogs are shipped from, there are abt 4 diff catalogs to shop in. also they can't debt your checking acct unless you give them your acct. number.

so you just need to be responsible and read everything before getting something. nothing is for free. and if you have bad credit and can't get a REAL credit card why not something else to build up your credit. people just need to stop being greedy and READ READ READ READ READ all the information in front of them.

first thing I did was try to locate the company on the internet. No luck there but what I did find was this website!

AUTHOR: Renee' - (U.S.A.)

My husband received the exact same letter in the mail about the First National Card with a $6,500 credit limit. It's a good thing he asked me to look it over and tell him what I thought about it. The first thing I did was try to locate the company on the internet. No luck there but what I did find was this website! I am so thankful to all of you for letting others know about your experience and helping us to avoid jumping into something like this. It has to be a scam! The other thing was you can only order out of a catalog, what kind of card is that? I couldn't even find a catalog for them on the internet. Then you have to pay these people $198/annual fee within 2 months of activating the card. On the bottom of the letter it says: If your approval number starts with a 7, 8 or 9 then they've selected you because of your criteria of creditworthiness based on your credit record. NOPE, our card didn't have a 7, 8 or 9 so I'm trying to figure out if we don't meet their creditworthiness then why are they wanting to give us $6,500? Hmmm....RIP OFF. If it's too good to be true, your best bet is to stay away from it!

Hello... Where is consumer protection? thankful for ripoffreport!

AUTHOR: Rick - (U.S.A.)

I got my letter today. So someone must be there taking calls. I read the letter and laughed! However curiosity killed the cat, and I found myself here. I am very thankful that CCS does not have a web-site, otherwise we would have all ended up there instead of badbusinessbureau.com. I still feel ripped off, even if I didn't call. I want to know where they got my name from? and under what circumstances did they think I was a good target? Some crook has my information!!! What can I do stop this business? Any ideas who I should send a letter to? or call?

if it is truley a worthless scam i will let you all know

AUTHOR: Tina - (U.S.A.)

I too recieved one of the cards with the $6500.00 spending limit from CCS. Iam a little confused (mabey I got a revised letter) but I understood completely that it was for a catalog sales company.I also saw that it explained the bank charges in enough detail for me to understand that I was going to pay $200.00, but I would get it back in credit vouchers. The credit limit told me the merchandise would be outrageously priced, but I can't say my letter was misleading at all.It even explains in the benefits/terms section that I am responsible for s\h, and small down payment if nessasary. I wonder if they changed the letter to be more informing, although it could just as easily be they have changed it to be more misleading.I'm so confused.I plan to activate the card, if it is truley a worthless scam i will let you all know.If it is a fingerhut deal(what I expect it will be), i'll let you know that too

Don't Activate this Card!!

AUTHOR: Bill - (U.S.A.)

I too recieved an approval from CCS for $6500. I knew immediately it was a phony card but when I looked for a number to call to cancel the card their wasn't one. Only an 800 number to activate the card. DON'T ACTIVATE the card! What a rip off. These people need to be shut down and prosecuted with jail time. Thank you for all your comments warning good people trying to get their credit back on track.

THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY CREDIT

AUTHOR: Nichole - (U.S.A.)

I also received teh same letter as the hundreds of you with the same amoutn of credit limit. I ahve jsut started to rebuild my credit again as well and have been very successful. I was cautious enough to look this CCS company up and also only found this site for information, I am very shocked and relieved at the same time that I was smart enough to check this card out before making any other decisions regarding this account offer. I want to thank all of the people who have been victimized and commented here on this page, you saved me and probably many others from hardship and grief, and fro those who already are sufering as a result, my blessings and remember that what comes around goes around so hang in there and fight these idiots who are trying to rob our life. Thanks again, a smart woman in Northwest Indiana.

You know they are phony....they don't have a website!!

AUTHOR: La'Quinta - (U.S.A.)

I received my card and letter in November 2003. I knew there was a reason why I didn't activate this phony card. They never said what type of things they sell. They never explained anything about their company. So one day I decided to do some research, and I checked out www.ccs.com. All I saw was a skateboard site. Then I came across this site w/all of the responses from other people. Thanks for informing me. I knew something was very fishy.

they hire everyone they can get their hands on. You get paid $5.50 an hour and they cut your pay if you don't get enough "deals" aka rip off peoples checking accounts

AUTHOR: Jananie - (U.S.A.)

When I was looking for a new job a friend showed me an ad in the paper for this company. When I went in they hire everyone they can get their hands on. The turn over rate is outrageous. You get paid $5.50 an hour and they cut your pay if you don't get enough "deals" aka rip off peoples checking accounts. I needed the money while I found a real job and signed up. The people that work there are delinquents and have no heart. They send these letters out making it look like they are a real credit card company. You can't answer any questions until you have given your checking account information and once you do that, there is NO customer service department or complaints. They say there is but they never answer the phone or they put you on hold until you hang up. If you answer any questions before you get the checking account information. YOU GET FIRED. These people open up these little calling centers under different names every so often so they can't or think they can't be tracked. They are under different names. Don't call, Don't be stupid. They will say anything for you to sign up. There is no merchandise in the catalog, It's fake. TAKE MY ADVISE DO NOT CALL. DO NOT CALL IN TO TELL THEM NEVER TO CALL YOU AGAIN EITHER BECAUSE THEY JUST SIGN YOU UP WITH THE INFORMATION THEY HAVE TO A DIFFERENT COMPANY. THEY TARGET THE ELDERLY OR ANYONE WHO HAS BAD CREDIT AND SEEMS DESPERATE. DO NOT CALL.

I have to thank all of you very much. I too was excited about finally having a credit card with a limit of 6,500.It would really help me out here at Christmas time but, then I read the part where it is only valid for CCS Catalog purchases. I was curious to see if CCS had an online catalog I could look at before I called to activate it. The first search result I found was this. All of you have saved me a lot of stress and money.

Thanks!

AUTHOR: Monique - ()

Oh my GOD! I cannot believe the amount of people who have had the same experience that I had. I received the same 6500 dollar credit limit garbage in the mail too. So I went online to search for it and to my surprise BAM! they sent me here to this site and I couldn't help but to read what happened to other people.

I'm a single mother working 10 hours a day to support my baby and it sounded like a good way to establish some kind of credit. But now that I see this, I'll cut it up along with the card that it came with and put it where it belongs...in the GARBAGE. I thank you sooooo much for the information, it really saved me some money and time.

today aug,1 2002 my daughter who is a minor recieved a card from(CCS FIRST NATIONAL CARD) she was excited, her credit limit of $6500.00 and cash on demand.i knew that could not be true sents she has never had credit before.

so i as her parent called i ask several questions one in concern where did they get her name, the lady on the other end dodged all questions, i ask what was this card for she WOULD NOT say.

so i went to ole faith full my computer and found your site i wasnt to suprized at all the comments about this company do to the response i got from the call,i just wanted my daughter to see how people rip others off & could mess there credit up just over a high priced magazine.

Reputable Companies

AUTHOR: tara - ()

Thanks for posting your comments. I would have been "ripped off", also... had I not found this site.

I am attempting to rebuild my credit. Although I have many unpaid collection accounts and charge offs, I have been trying to get a credit card to make purchases online and for other reasons. I don't have a checking account with a check card, again, because of my credit. I have done some extensive research online for credit cards, both secured and unsecured. I determined that the unsecured cards give you a balance of $200, for example, and charge $192.50 in fees. This leaves you with 7.50 credit and a huge balance to pay down before you even get to use it.

The secured cards have fees... the select few that are with reputable companies that don't rip you in two before giving you credit, but that still charge some fees to activate the account are:
First Premier Bank, Capital One, & Orchard Bank Card Services (Household)...

Some advice for those of you that are wanting to build your credit...

1. Get a secured card.

If you are going to pay companies like CCS that are going to take everything they can, you might as well pay $25 to set up a secured credit card account and add money to it by sending in $25 or more a month. Once you have $200, you have a credit card. First Premier charges $69 activation fee and the rest is yours.

2. Keep the BALANCE (amount owed) on your credit cards UNDER 50%of your CREDIT LIMIT.

have to come back. gotta run

Thankfully we will not be charged for anything as we didn't activate it.

AUTHOR: kim - ()

I received the exact same letter as the rest of
the respondents. I'm sorry, but if you have to
get $6500 from a credit card that will only allow
you to order from a merchandise magazine that
a company offers. Its really not worth having
regardless if the words "Repair Your Credit"
stick out. I am also a single working Mother
and would love to get some future credit going,
but not this way. I planned to throw it away
from the beginning, but checked out this site
first and was pleased that my first initial action
was to toss the card, after reading the mumbo-
jumbo they throw at you in this letter offer.

Thanks for contributing to the comments. I'm here
to do it as well for the next victim.

When I called them, a gentalman answered, and right away I was asked what my approval number was. I refused to give it to him. Instead, I told him that I had a few questions for him. I asked him about the merchandise they sell. He was not very familiar with it. He only knew what was already on my letter. I asked if they had a website. He said no. And, I asked if I could get a catalog so I am able to see the merchandise and prices. He said that the only way I can get a catalog is to pay the membership fee and join. It does not take a dummy to see this scam a mile away!

2 good 2 B true

I just received the letter from CCA First National for a membercard card offering up to $6,500.00 credit limit. This is only one of many others I have received (USA Bank Card, etc.) With this type of card you can only make purchases from their catalog or from a particular online shopping site. Fortunately, I have gotten on line and have read many others letters of complaint from other victims ripped off by these companies. These are companies who take advantage of a persons need to rebuild or establish credit. This particular company has a memberhip fee of $250.00 and an annual fee of $99.00. If you could afford to pay that much for a card, then you probably don't need it. If it's 2 good 2 B true, then BEWARE!

Beware

AUTHOR: Melinda - ()

CCS is a company that makes thier money by charging your credit card with out your permission. I responded to thier letter, but told them that I was not interested after learning that you could only purchase items from thier catalog. You have to give them permission to access your account, which in turn I told them that I was not interested and to not activate the account. Needless to say they charged my checking account for $100.

How did they do this you ask? They send you a letter much like Visa and Mastercard send, stating that you are qualified for X amount. You send them a check for them to process the card. Not only do they cash your check, they later bill you checking account. This company should stopped.

Did you ever use the card?

AUTHOR: Janie - ()

I got the same card and wanted to activate my card but I saw this and was concerned. My letter does say that it is to shop of there catalog and I was woundering if anyone has reported a rip off after purchasing anything from this company? The company I got the letter from is First National Card CCS credit service division 61 W. Utah, ste 63 Las Vegas, NV 89102. I dont know if they actualy have a catalog or if they are just a rip off all together?

I hope someone can answer my questions because I dont plan to activate my card unless I get a response from someone, I was glad to get this card and my concern is am I going to be riped off or was this young lady mad because she was not aware of the fact that it was shopping from there catalog? I pray I hear from you soon and May God Bless You.
