I applied for the medical laboratory technician program. First off, they said there wouldn't be any more than 12 - 14 people in the class. There were 36 people. The lab wasn't even finished being built when we started our lab work. We didn't have the supplies we needed. We sat around for the first 2 weeks hardly doing anything because we didn't have any supplies. One of the work tables didn't have a top on it for the first 3 months. We didn't have ECG beds until 4 months in, and even then, it took another 2 months to get the curtains.
They promised that we would have a qualified instructor in the lab with us, but because they crammed so many people into one class, they had to divide us into two groups. While one group was in the lab, the other was in the classroom, and then at lunchtime, we'd switch. We had our instructor in the classroom, but we had a 'teaching assistant' (she wasn't qualified to be a teaching assistant) in the lab with us, who turned out to be one of his former students who just graduated one month before we started our course. She didn't teach us anything, just sat there gossiping all day.
Our instructor started trying to get placements for us at the beginning of the course. Even by the end, some people still didn't have work placements. We graduated in June of 2005. I didn't get my placement until August/September of 2005. Nearly 3 months later. Our work placement was supposed to be the last 2 weeks of the course, meaning the last 2 weeks of June.
They also promised that they would help us find jobs when we were done, but they didn't.

It's now nearly 3 years later, and I've never gotten a job in my field since going to CDI. They said that their employment rate within 6 months after graduation was 70%, but that was clearly a lie, because none of the other 36 people in my class have gotten a job in their field, either. I hear similar stories from other CDI graduates. No one can get a job after going to CDI. A CDI diploma isn't worth the paper it's printed on.
CDI has a bad reputation with employers.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Study somewhere else

AUTHOR: Fp1110 - (Canada)

Former employee at Everest.
I am disgusted of the way we were forced to treat our clients.
The interview is just to get them dreaming and in a state where they can easily sign the contract.
Our bosses were pushing us like crazy to get enrollments.
We were forced to bring referrals, to generate the business so they could earn more money.
The process is called Ignite and it is all about making the student feel important but the truth is that the school is desperate for the numbers.
The instructors were terrible.
Everyone on campus was depressed.
The admissions counsellors didn't get leads, they were distributed according to the receptionists moods.
We MUST say on the phone: "Congratulations for calling us today"...bla bla bla. Even if we were the ones dialing. In most of the cases we dialed, rarely a student would call that school.
We gave the image of being professional but we accepted anybody who enrolled.

If you value your life and your education, please go somewhere else. This is a ripoff.
Sad but true.

It is amazing how these skoolz start getting a bum-rap, change their names, and whammo....they get a new lease on life. It is just the same junk with a different name to hide behind. It really is interesting to see people, even some that i know, fail to take my advice and willfully go to CID or Everezt to get information on their "career building" programs. I was burned once by them, and I guess my experience is not enough to get them to see that going there it is a waste of PRECIOUS time and money. Everyone in my "bizn-ass" class got "honors"(yes I know it is a joke, I was being sarcastic in my previous comment.) And wow, I guess now, in some "campuses" they offer a MASTERZ program in business. Golly-geez, all these dopes going to 4-6 year universities got it all wrong! I can get a masters in 11 months and it takes them 6 years, HA. I mean, my 6 month business diploma hasn't gotten me a job yet after 6 years and 500 resumes(avg.), maybe I should enroll again and upgrade to a MASTERZ at CID! employers wont know the difference and even though my credits don't transfer to Universities and Colleges I'm the one with the secret weapon.....why would or did I pay for high-school level curriculum(grade eleven general at best) is beyond me....I mean, how many of these skoolz are there and WHY do people keep going. It really isnt and easy way out, in fact, in the long run it makes things THAT much harder.

Honours from a "school" like CDI is meaningless. They gave an honours diploma to a girl in my class who cheated her way through half of the course.

More of the same nonsense!

AUTHOR: Curtis - (Canada)

"I most certainly DID NOT sit around and expect them to find me a job. I put out hundreds of resumes, but never got any calls. I applied to every major lab in Canada 3 or 4 times, I had my resume on 6 job search sites, I applied to labs and doctor's offices around my area, and never got any calls."

I put out 400 resumes and I got not a single call. I took business administration. I have no criminal record. I graduated high-school with good grades. I attended University for 3 years. I have no criminal record and I have a good rep. with my past-employers. Must I also mention that I have honors etched in my diploma?!.....What a waste!

I'm guessing you just skimmed through my report, because you seem to have completely misunderstood what I said.

The placement I was referring to was not getting a job after I graduated, it was the clinical placement that was part of the course (practicum). It WAS their job to get that placement for me, but it took them forever (no doubt because of what a bad reputation CDI college has, which is no doubt why they changed their name to Everest). It was supposed to have been in June (the last 2 weeks of the course) but they didn't get a placement for me until August - 2 months after the course ended.

Yes, I was given a tour of the campus, but the lab wasn't built yet at that time. That was 5 months before the course was scheduled to start (it was originally supposed to start in September, but the start date kept getting pushed back and eventually started in November. I was given a tour around April). They said they were about to begin building it and assured me that it would be finished by the time the course started. They claimed that someone from the ministry of education came in to inspect it, yet when we started, it wasn't fully stocked with the equipment we needed (It took 2 weeks just to get tourniquets so we could start taking blood), one of the table tops was missing, there were no ECG beds, and no curtains. All we did for the first 2 weeks was take blood glucose measurements because that's all we had the equipment for.
I got frustrated with them the way the start date kept getting pushed back, but if I dropped out of the course, I would have had to pay them almost $1,000. (Pretty good scam they have going. They get paid whether you get an education or not). Money I didn't have because I couldn't get a job because I had no training. That's the reason I went to CDI in the first place. I thought it would help me get a good job.

I most certainly DID NOT sit around and expect them to find me a job. I put out hundreds of resumes, but never got any calls. I applied to every major lab in Canada 3 or 4 times, I had my resume on 6 job search sites, I applied to labs and doctor's offices around my area, and never got any calls.

Also, the reason it took me "so long" to file a report here is because I didn't know this site existed until the time I filed a report. I've been telling my story all over the internet in other places so that other people can avoid getting ripped off the way I did.

I'm a little surprised

AUTHOR: Anon.one - (U.S.A.)

Hi Sherri,

The reason why I am surprised is that it only took you 3 years to come on here and report to the public of your unsatisfactory views on CDI. I believe that if a person was really whole-heartedly PISSED at a situation, that person wouldn't waste time (especially 3 years later) to write about it.

Anyhoo...

Being an ex-employee for EVEREST COLLEGE, another branch of Corinthian Colleges, the one thing I remember telling our studens is that we can NEVER, EVER guarantee placement after your program finishes, but we do ASSIST in your endeavors on getting a good job. As an ex employee, one of the company's policy was to never GUARANTEE. It's not the school's job to find you employment. They will help you out in any way they can, but you should have taken the initiative to find something as well and not rely on others to do it for you.

I don't doubt your thoughts on your bad education experience. However, I do have a few opinions in regards to your statements such as with the construction going on. I know that each student receives a tour of the campus. That's usually the process when a new perspective student arrives. Did you ever get that tour? And if you did, would't you have seen this construction? Wouldn't you want to inquire about it before enrolling? Also, the instructors are not the ones who place you, but it is the CAREER SERVICES department. But again, it's never a guarantee. Did you have one at your campus?
