I called Comcast today, requesting a Disabled Veteran account discount like I'm receiving from Verizon Wireless. To my great dismay, there’s no such company policy.

As we all know, Comcast has been around for almost 50 years and is the largest cable company in the U.S. For this company and others to NOT pass forward their monetary success is a sad illustration of not honoring or respecting disabled military Veterans.

It would only be appropriate for Comcast and other companies to give a break to those who served. After all, it’d be chump change in the big picture.

Entitlement

We all appreciate the service of Americans in our armed forces. I am also a disabled Veterans who served a couple of tours in Iraq. While it is nice to received discounts for the public service we have provided, i totally disagree with the entittlement i see out of Veterans these days. It seems that Veterans want to be handed the world. The benefits and resources available to Veterans is great. It is up to the Veteran to use those resources to obtain a bright future.

Not every Veteran will follow what i have done, but one thing i do remember from an out brief i had was that the biggest problems employers had for hiring Veterans is that the seemed entittled to high paying jobs and promotions. This comment i heard stuck out to me, so I used the resources i had and enlisted in the reserves for a year to help pay for school because at the time, i was on the original GI bill before moving to the post 9/11 GI bill and didn't have much money. i earned an AA, and then a BA in accounting and got an internship. I worked hard at it and was offered a job after i received my degree.

While I take pride in my years i served as a solider in the US Army, and take advantage of all discounts that companies offer for Veterans, I have never felt entittled to anything. I also do not agree that any Veteran should get a benefit they did not earn. if you have a disability, you earned some type of monotary compensation, but not a $100,000.000 a year job with 40% off everything you spend money on. While i do subscribe to Comcast, i dont like them but because of my area, it is borderlined monopoly, and an oligopoly at that, they are not a bad company because they do not offer discounts to Veterans, but they may be a bad company for other reasons.

Sad on so many levels..

First off I do want to thank you for your service and sacrafice to our country.  Not a lot of people would be willing to do that.  I also think that it is sad that there is often not a lot more done for not only Disabled Veterans but Veterans as a whole.

But what is almost as sad is a veteran who thinks they should be "entitled" to a discount, and if they don't get it they are somehow getting Ripped Off.  If a company wants to give you a discount great, but if not then that is NOT a Rip Off.

Just how much "respect" are you looking for?  $5/month?  $10/month?  Free Premium Channels?  Free Internet?  90% off of your bill?

In fact with your attitude, if they don't give you what you think you are entitled to I bet you would then be complaining how they are insulting you because they are not giving you the discount you want.  Which is exactly the reason that a lot of companies have gone away from offering any sort of discount.

Does EVERY single other company give you a discount for being a disabled vet?  If not..are we to expect more reports on each one?
