This is the letter I emailed to the CapitalOne CEO, Richard Fairbank:
On October 11, 2012, after being a longtime customer, I called CapitalOne Visa to ask what my payoff balance was. The rep told me that if I paid $6703.13 within the next few days that I could also close the account, which I thought did at least thats what the rep told me. At that point I considered CapitalOne to be history wouldnt you?
On January 14th, 2013, almost 3 months later to the date, I received a call at home from CapitalOne asking for payment. Needless to say I was shocked so I checked my old account online. I was shocked to find unauthorized charges from internet scam artists as well as from magazine subscriptions that I neither ordered nor ever received. In all my new balance is now $466.10 which, of course, included your interest charges. In the 3 months since I paid off and closed my account I never even received a statement or an email from you.
After 2 chat sessions to no avail and then calling and being transferred to 4 different departments at CapitalOne (with each stating after I repeated my story that, Sorry, you are in the wrong department) I finally spoke with Jasmine (she wouldnt reveal her last name) in Collections who gave me the most shocking news of all. She told me that even though I closed my account, automatic payments could still be billed to me up until the day I die I kid you not! I was also told that since the rep quoted me an incorrect payoff amount that was a few dollars less than the correct amount, my account could not have been closed gee, thanks for letting me know 3 months later!
Right after hanging up on her (I couldnt take the abuse anymore) I contacted both the Better Business Bureau of Virginia as well as the Virginia Attorney General to inform them of your unholy company. I figured you would also like hear from a very, very angry ex-customer who plans to keep fighting and smearing your name until I get complete satisfaction.

Don't trust these rotten slime thugs who work at capital one to do the right thing when you settle a account with them. They think that they can treat people like garbage if they fall on hard times when fall behind on they're payments or when they purchase credit card accounts.
They're liars & will do anything to ruin your life.
