Capital Direct Lottery Sweepstakes (Actual check mailed to you) Las Vegas, Nevada

My mother received a letter from this company saying she won $250,000.00 recently with what appears to be a real check in the amount of $2,458.45. It is from a real bank and the routing number on the check is also correct! The odd thing is that the check is from "Diamond Head All Suite Resort, 2000 Estero Blvd, Ft Meyers Beach, FL", which I googled and it is a real resort. I wonder if the check was stolen? Anyway, the contact person on th eletter is "Tina Johnson" at 877.895.8780, which apparently is a Canadian phone number (also according to google.)

The letter goes on to say the check is to "help with the taxes, insurance, Handling and Shipping fees", which will be in the amount of $1,850.00. Then, a "representative in your area will deliver the $247,541.55 directly to your door." Scary to think that these scammers might possibly to go an elderly person's house to steal more or worse. I will shred the check, but I fear that others will easily fall for this scam, because any bank would take this check for sure!
