Capital One has been reporting false credit information to my credit. They have an account that was opened in 2008, which they they cliamed is mine. I have never opened a credit card from Capital One and never done any business with them.

Capital One refuses to remove the account from my name. They collected information when I called  like birth date, social security number and current phone number in order for them to continue speaking with me, that was a red flag. When I called them they kept passing me to a different representative every 10 mins. I ended up talking to four reps  in 45 minutes, where they unprofessionally claimed I opened the account. They refused to resolve the problem and instead aggressively made it seem I was culprit and even tried blaming my mom!

Capital One somehow reported that I made 3 payments skipping a month in between so that it looks more legitimate when reporting to the credit bureaus.  I am disappointed that we have these predator banks in oir country.  My credit s ruined and I feel powerless against these giants.

If there are more victoms like myself please post a complaint. We need to fight back against these predators.

Identity Theft

AUTHOR: SocialAmateur - ()

There are several ways you could have handled this that would have been effective.

First, you don't call them.  You sent letters by certified mail.  You can also dispute it with the credit reporting agencies (also should be done by certified mail).

You handled this the worst way possible -- and got the results that go along with that.

Something is a bit odd.

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

First of all the "You must be an employee" get's really old and you will find that is Standard Operating Procedure for people who don't like what was said.  When in turn all it does is make you look dumb.  I will also get this out of the way..NO I am not now or have I ever worked for this company or any Credit Card.

You also have to realize that Capital One does not just go around and randomly open up accounts.  They also gain nothing by posting fake accounts.  After all if you are never going to pay them what exactly are they gaining...it is just common sense.  In addition to that, if they are doing as you are accusing them of and intentionally faking your payment history just to make it look more reasonable...then go to your local news media and "blow the lid" off of this scam.  Of course the news will tell you the same thing, what you are saying makes no sense and no one is going to touch the story.  Not because they are "bought off" but because it isn't happening.

Now, let's look at it from their perspective.  A person signed up for a card, put several things on credit and that at a point and time decided to just no longer pay.  Now, if they just want it to go away what could they do..Oh yea say they never opened the card.  Oh and NO I am NOT saying you did this, but unfortunatly this is actually very common and no company is going to just take your word for it.

When you found out about it did you file an Identity Theft Report?  If not why not?

Next, is this card actually in default, or are there just sporatic "missing" payments?  The reason I ask this is because if this was in default a credit card company will "Charge Off" the acount after about 6 months.  Where it gets sent to various collection agencies.  You mention none of this.  Because if it is just sporatic monthly payments then it could be something as simple..as someone else's credit card being reported as yours.  But again this is where the Idently Theft report and various other things come into play.  Such as why didn't you have the card closed?

Also, I would be curious as to what the balance is on this card.

I am also wondering how your mom comes into this and why they would even remotely accuse her.  Did she by chance open this card?

Ignorant Capital One Crony

AUTHOR: Oscar - ()

You asked if I knew what identity theft is? What rock did you crawl out of? All of America knows that at this time in age.

I tried to resolve the issue as soon as I knew about it. There is no time frame in which a person has to report fraud on their credit as long as the banks are still reporting it.  You think you need to go in and apply at a bank with actual ID's to get a credit card? The answer is no! Capital One said it was done over the internet on a Cell phone.

Sounds like this person is backing up the big guys for some odd reason..You sound like the Capital One low paid representatives, but instead you are on the web for them.  HMMMMM.

Have you ever heard of identity theft?

AUTHOR: MochaG - ()

If your identity was stolen and the thief used your information to open a bank account, it is your responsibility to report and/or fix the incident. If you let it go and it becomes a problem in the end, you will pay for the damage. That's why all 3 credit bureaus allow a person to retrieve his/her credit report (not FICO) once a year without a charge. A bank cannot open an account on the fly after taking one's information... Silly thought of yours...
