About two years ago I had to apply for CARE CREDIT for the reason of getting a tooth removed. I did not have insurance and could not afford it. I was approved for Care Credit with a promotional offer of if I had my balance paid in full by Six months, I would incur no interest charges. This seemed so amazing to me at the time. I had the painful tooth removed, and calculated my doctor bill and divided it up into 6 month payments and had it set to auto pay and it would payoff in full by the end of my promotional offer. Little did I know, one month before my offer was up, I would need another wisdom tooth pulled, which I did and used Care Credit.

The doctors office told me that this bill could also be for promotional financing but would be separate from the first and this was for 12 months. So, after the extraction I went online to check my bill to make sure the first bill was being paid off since that promotion was coming to an end and without me knowing Care Credit changed the due date of my payment to FIVE days before what it was previously. Since I was set on autopay, my payment went in actually two days past due since I had actually set it up to pay before the due date.

I didn't realize this until I went in to check for the next month because I knew my promotion was about to end and I wanted to make sure it was set up to pay off and I seen an additional $25 on my account. I was so furious. I called and they said there was nothing they could do since the payment was received after the due date. So, I let it go, I paid the full amount of the remaining balance for the first bill and an additional $25 for the late fee. Then I calculated the remaining balance to pay off for the next promotional period of 12 months. Here we are now and when I go in and check my bill I see it is way more than it should be.

So I call and they tell me that I have an unpaid late fee of $25.00 from last year which is subject to finance charges. I said "Whoa I paid that the month after I incurred it". She tells me, "Well, we allocate all payments to your balance first and once you pay the balance then anything let over will apply to any other charges. I paid it off today and I WILL NEVER USE THOSE A******** AGAIN! How would you ever catch up after some BS like that? Be very cautious of using this scam! They will find away. I will give them the fact that I should have been more careful and checked my bill every month but I guess that was me giving the "system" the benefit of the doubt. NEVER AGAIN.

Common mistake...

You see this more with mortgage companies then anywhere else. They have no idea that the extra $25 that you paid was to go towards the amount you owed. All they get to see is a extra $25 on top of what you paid. If you did not contact them and authorize  $25 to be paid for the fee then they are in the right. The problem is youre expecting a computer and its jockey to know what you are thinking. That just dont happen.

I had a similar issue which taught me to make sure you contact the ppl or company you are dealing with and handleing EACH instance as its own call. This way you can log it. I was paying a extra $250 on my house note. I spent a year doing this because I was told ANYTHING above the minimum payment would be applied to the remaining balance. Long story short I was credited the extra money but it taught me a valuable lesson. DO NOT ASSUME!!!!!! Its our biggest downfall financially speaking. wE assume THAT EVERYONE AT THE COMPANY YOU ARE DEALING WITH IS ALL ON THE SAME PAGE. That is never the case. So in the future take a few extra mins from your day and tackle those issues personaly instead of assuming the ppl on the other end either know what they are supposed to do or even care to do it.
