Care.com is a scam and rip-off. Initially it is free to search for a care giver, but if you want to place an ad and to be able to view background checks it states it cost $30 for one month.  In the fall of 2009, I placed an add for an after-school nanny.  Within two weeks we realized this was not a viable place to search for care givers and made other arrangements with a school program.  I removed my add from the site. Since then, I have not received a single email, regular mail, payment confirmation, contract renewal information any or any contact from Care.com.   I had forgotten about them, until fall 2011 (2 years later) when I changed credit card numbers.  I then received an email from them stating that they were not able to process my $30 monthly payment....I then called Care.com and yes for 2 years they had charged $30 a month for a total of $720.00 !!!!!! to my credit card.  Yes, shame on me for not noticing and checking every statement... and I will be checking past statements today, because I think they must be billing under some other name.  I will also be going to my bank to see about a fraud report and how I may recoup some of my lost money.  Please avoid this company! It has no interest in matching care givers with jobs.  They are only trying to separate you from your money.  I mean seriously...who would need two years to constantly search for a nanny?  A care giver search is usually a one-two week process ...and the very fact that they auto renew without sending email payment confirmation demonstrates their deceptive practice!!!!

Care.com repsonds to my complaint...

AUTHOR: mackers78910 - (United States of America)

Please see the correspondence which proves Care.com is a LIAR!

May 15, 2011, I requested Care.com to close out my account.  May 26, 2011,Hello Mrs..
You've downgraded your Care.com account to a free Basic membership, but you can still write reviews for the caregivers you contacted as a Premium member. The caregivers below applied to your job, Deep Cleaning Once A Month. Please take a moment to write reviews for the caregivers you interviewed or hired.

August 15, 2011 :  This is the reply I received from Care.com

Hi XXXX:

In responding to you in my prior email, I was letting you know that you would not be able to leave a review for the provider that you had hired through the account that you had closed because your account had been closed.  Many of our members choose to remain a free Basic Member after they hire someone instead of completely closing their account.  As long as they have corresponded with the provider while they were a Premium Member, they can leave a review for the provider through their open free Basic Membership.  We love when members leave reviews for other members as it is so helpful to other seekers in the hiring process to hear about others' experiences with the provider, whether positive or negative, so that a seeker can make an informed decision about hiring.

Also, just so you know, any Premium Member can leave a review. If you were to enroll again as a Premium Member, you would be able to leave a review for the provider you hired under your prior closed account, through your new Premium Membership.  In responding to you in my prior email, I was focused on your specific situation with your closed account and how you could still help your provider with a reference or written recommendation even though you had closed your account.  I apologize for not elaborating further on the entire review process in other situations as well and am sorry that I may have inadvertently made you come to some negative conclusions about our review policy in the process.

Sincerely,

Laurie

XXX--> It states right here in the previous email that Premium members are allowed to leave reviews for caregivers, even after they have chosen to close out their account.

In the end, Care.com is a JOKE!!!!!

Thanks! Please try another avenue besides Care.com, as all they want is money and not to help anyone.  Why else would they state I have to give them money in order to leave a review?  SCAM!!!!!

Martha, Will you REALLY get back ASAP?

AUTHOR: mackers78910 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, August 14, 2011

Ok. I have to laugh at that comment, Martha.  To think that you or any of your customer service reps would get back ASAP is a JOKE!  Try 30 days later!

Please read my complaint: I actually found someone to do my housekeeping and it took them 30 days to reply to me that I can't leave a review for them!

Complaint Type: Consumer to Business Complaint ( BBB )
Nature of complaint: A failure to honor a contract or agreement
Problem description:
I was subscribed to Care.com I hired a wonderful housekeeper and I wanted to leave a review for this person, but when I went to add a review I found I could not leave one. Apparently, there is a time limit on leaving reviews. I contacted customer service and she stated in an email the policy: Unfortunately, the account that you hired this provider through has since been closed, so you will be unable to leave a review on the provider's Care.com account as reviews are posted on the provider's account through your account. Yet, the FAQ on the website states otherwise, as it does not give a time limit on leaving a review: Who can I review?- As a care seeker, you can review any care provider within the service to which you are subscribed. Please review only providers who have worked for you or with whom you've had contact! I would think that a company that "prides itself on finding caring and safe individuals" to watch our children, or just let into our homes, as I hired a housekeeper from them. That they would be interested in their Care.com caregivers receiving a review to let others know about the process, the person, the care, etc. There should not be a time limit on leaving a review.
Desired Settlement: Change the Store Policy
Desired Outcome:
Again, I would like to see a change in this review policy. I think there should not be a time limit on leaving a review for the caregivers of Care.com
