I bought a car from Carhop not quite a month ago.  It ran great for a couple of weeks.  The next week, the Service Engine light came on.  I took it to Auto Zone and had the machine test it.  They found numerous possible problems.  Today, the car wouldn't even start.

I called Carhop and they assured me they would make it right and spoke with Ron.  My salesperson was Brad, who was "with another customer."  Ron told me to call their service department again, and he would have notes in the system.

Cory from the Service department finally called me back after waiting 30 minutes.  He said it was my responsibility to have repairs made.  I would never buy from them again, and since I have credit problems anyway, I will see a lawyer regarding this if Carhop does not repair the car at no cost to me.  We all know that there will be a lawyer who will sue them.  And the publicity will be bad for Carhop.  They promised that it was a great car in wonderful condition and I would be able to get back and forth to work, and go places.  HA.  On the back of a tow truck maybe!

CAR HOP;

AUTHOR: shaferd77@yahoo.com - (U.S.A.)

It's been 5 months since I got this car from Car Hop.  I would strongly advise anyone looking for a car not to go there.  The Ford I bought from them has had a myriad of problems, and I had to report this to the BBB and the state attorney general.  I told Car Hop's "mechanic" that the headlights were not working correctly (this is right after the car was inspected!).  Their person told me they did work, it was my imagination.  I took it to my own mechanic who ran every test imaginable to find the problem.  The switches were bad, and something else... $308 worth.  The heater wasn't working, fluid is still leaking, and the service engine soon light has been on more than it's been off.  There is always something major wrong with this lemon.  Car Hop's representative stated they had paid over $1,500 in repairs on the car.  I've spent quite a bit, and the car still needs more work done on it.  A lady at work bought from Car Hop and she had problems with her car.  They reset the service engine soon lights before they park it on the lot, so you can't tell what you are getting.  Anyway, the lady at work had an accident and her car was totalled.  BUT, Car Hop charges more than blue book, so even though her insurance paid blue book, she is still paying Car Hop for a car she no longer has.

Per your warranty questions

AUTHOR: Customer service - (U.S.A.)

Regarding your vehicle concerns, although it is unfortunate when any of our customers has mechanical issues, unforeseen problems do sometimes occur with used vehicles.

To best assist our customers, every vehicle purchased includes an 18 month / 18,000 limited warranty.  Since this is a limited warranty, the covered items are clearly listed in the paperwork each customer receives prior to purchase.  To ensure customers receive the best service, the warranty requires that a vehicle be taken to a CarHop approved service shop for diagnosis.  For a list of approved shops, visit www.carhop.com or call 888-826-4227 to share your situation with us in more detail.  CarHop has a long-standing A rating with the Better Business Bureau and is committed to that level of excellence.

Reality check.

AUTHOR: Flynrider - (U.S.A.)

   I bet when you bought this used car, you signed a paper that said you realized that the car was being sold "as is" without any expressed or implied warranties.  I'll also bet that you (like the majority of used car ripoff reporters) didn't bother to have the car checked out by a reputable mechanic before you bought it.   Where does that leave you?   You agreed to buy "as is" and because you didn't bother to do any of your own due dilligence, you bought a car with problems.

"I will see a lawyer regarding this if Carhop does not repair the car at no cost to me."

   What part of their warranty says that they will repair the car at no cost to you? Oh wait, you have no warranty!   Are you starting to get the drift?

"We all know that there will be a lawyer who will sue them."

   If it's an honest lawyer, they'll tell you that (due to the contract you signed) you have absolutely no case.   If it's a dishonest lawyer, they might milk you for thousands of dollars up front before you find that out.

   Bottom line is that when buying a used car "as is", any problems that the car has after you buy, belong to you.  That's what "No warranty" means.   If you're going to buy a used car, you can either do it properly and get it checked out before you buy, or you can roll the dice and hope the car doesn't have problems.  Your choice.
