I took my recently purchased used car back to Carmax because of squeaky brakes which make grinding vibrations at higher speeds for repair within the 30 day warranty. It took 2 weeks to get an appointment & no loaner car was offered which I understand is protocol. They replaced the front pads, but immediately after leaving the lot, the problem still persists. After waiting 2 weeks to see if the problem would go away with some new hardware, I called to schedule another appointment. I was told that I didn't qualify for a loaner because my 30 days had passed. It took over 3 weeks to get an appointment. The first day of my second appointment, they claim that they couldn't find any problem.. I drove the car with a tech who admitted to witnessing the occurrence. So I left it with them for another day. The second day of my second appointment they claimed to have fixed the problem by sanding down the new pads & proceeded to show me a picture of my rotors which were blue & burned. Then told me to take it easy on my brakes. I stated that I had put less than 2,000 miles on the car since purchased, but left happily with the problem fixed - Or so I thought. Untill I got 100 feet from the service center when the problem was clearly still there & in Fact Worse. To which I drove it back & then drove around two (2) service managers to demonstrate the issue for them, since they couldn't figure it out after putting sixty (60) miles on the car over the course of two additional days. The first guy claimed poor hearing & the second guy insulted me several times, telling me that squeaking was acceptable & to be expected from a used car with 40,000 miles on it. I usually buy cars new & certainly will not purchase another car from this overstaffed enterprise which does Not aim to please its customers once they contract is signed.

Signed formerly satisfied unhappy customer.

Carmax drops the ball again

AUTHOR: KimAndTim - (USA)

When I wrote this report, Carmax was still in possession of my car for a third day of a second attempt to rectify the brake problem. I returned to Carmax in Henderson NV the following afternoon to pick up my car once & for all. They informed me that they had "turned my rotors" a Second time to silence the squeak & eliminate the grinding at higher speeds. I drove the car home 8 miles with no issues remaining. However the second day, the squeaking started to reappear during my morning commute of 12 freeway miles.

Later in the afternoon, the grinding returned at my freeway off ramp. Since then the problem has gotten progressively worse, eventually returning back to its original condition. Carmax e-mailed me a customer service survey, to which I gave them a complete statement of what had transpired. My survey reflected the same statements that I have made here on Ripoff Report almost word for word. I have not heard back from Carmax at all & I have no desire to ever step foot on their property again.

I bought my used car from them 3 months ago, since then, I have replaced the dry rotted tires, the windshield wipers, exhausted battery, oil changed & had the car detailed properly at my cost. They have replaced the brake pads, but refused to replace the rotors as necessary. I suggest to anyone considering buying a vehicle from Carmax, to thoroughly go through the entire vehicle & perform your own inspection knowing that if there is anything questionable about the condition of the vehicle, that you will ultimately be on the hook for any repairs. Good Luck
