I purchased a 2003 BMW 325i with 56,000 miles August 2012. Since the time of purchase i have had $6300.00 in rrepairs done to this vehicle. The last visit was today 3.28.13, the total invoice of $1350.00 for Vanos repair/ Valve cover Gaskets and two coils. The repairs were done at a Reputable BMW Dealership, when i called Carmax regarding the problem i was having they just ignored me they would not return my calls. So far i have had to have repairs to the electrical system, the transmission (valve body replaced) front brakes and rotors, both front control arms, front stuts and bushings. So much for the 125 point inspection.....I will never buy nor will i EVER Allow their incompetent backyard mechanics to ever touch my car AGAIN!!!
I would really like to see a class action suit be filed against them for selling junk and lying to their customers.

In response to the above comment. The $1300.00 repair was completed under warrenty, why would i take my car to someone other than a reputable BMW to make the repairs? My car was at Carmax 4 times for faulty taillights, they were never repaired and the last time they billed my warrenty for $400.00.

The 5th time i decided to call the BMW dealer, i was told there was an open recall on the year and model. BMW replaced the wire assembly free of charge under the recall...Carmax owes me $400.00, i should never of been charged for that repair. Maxcare has also been notified. Since the taillight repair i have chosen to never have anyone other than a BMW Master Tech work on my car.

do more research or buy brand new cars. the $1300 repair you mentioned could have been a $5 tube of RTV and two $45 ignition coils which take seconds to install.

I drive an '85 MR2 I paid $700 for with 113k miles on it. it now has 147k miles and only needed a $50 water pump, $90 fuel pump, $90 front engine kit (time belt and seals) and $700 in tires in 3 years

Sorry but i have to disagree, you Do Not know the entire story. This car was a ceritfied pre-owned vehicle!

Used or not, no one should have to pay $16,000 for a car only to have to make thousands of dollars in repairs the first month!! Unaceptable period!!It doesn't matter if its a BMW or a Honda...the point is Carmax lies to their customers regarding the condition of the vehicles they sell....if not than why are there so many complaints?

You bought a TEN Year old car with 56,000 miles, it is not going to be "Showroom new".    You most likely bought the car As-Is.  That means that the second you signed the paperwork any repairs become your responsibility.  Your latest repair is also 7 months after you bought it, in other words pretty much impossible for you to make a  claim that they knew this part was a problem.

You also left off how many miles you have put on the car in the last 7 months.  As some of those things, such as the brakes, are "wear and tear" items that no dealer is going to warranty.

Then don't forget you bought a BMW.  Where everything is going to be on the higher end..including repair costs.  Not to mention to took it to the Dealer.  You know...the place you go if you want a $5 light bulb replaced for $150.    Had you found a reputable independent mechanic, I would not be shocked if you could have cut your repair bills in half.  Not that you wouldn't have had these repairs, just that they would probably have been significantly cheaper.
