I discovered this fraud when I filed individual ethics grievances against Sharon Easley, Lisa Marquis and each individual attorney in the aforementioned law firm, including Davis. The State Bar of Texas replied to me, via letter, and stated that Davis was a "Non-Attorney" and that the Bar could take no action against her because she is not licensed to practice law in the state of Texas.

You can checkout the Easley & Marquis website and you will not see an autobiography or picture of Casey Davis on the website. When you look at the "client intake forms" that new clients prepare before their first consultation with an attorney of this firm, you will clearly see Casey Davis listed as an attorney along with her hourly rate of $180.

Davis took the Texas State Bar Exam in February 2004 and passed the exam. Davis obtained a Bar Card number from the State Bar of Texas when she was either a law student and worked in the legal field or while she worked for the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office after passing the state bar exam. Bar Card numbers are issued to law students who work for the government or an attorney's office or when a candidate has passed the Bar Exam and goes to work for the government or a law office. Davis has not been issued a Texas Bar license because she is lacking an eligibility requirement which may include one or more of the following: Proof of citizenship (Rule II (a) (5)); Law Study Requirement (Rule III); Good Moral Character & Fitness (Rule IV); or a passing, valid score on the MPRE (Rule V).

Davis has registered herself on the State Bar of Texas website as a "Member" and she clearly states her bar number and states she is authorized to practice law in the state of Texas. This is a great fraud and mis-representation to the public because she is not a licensed attorney but is representing herself to be a licensed attorney and she is collecting an hourly fee. Sharon Easley, her mother, is aiding and abetting this fraud by employing Davis and representing Davis as an attorney of the law firm Easley & Marquis.

Davis is the attorney on record for several family law cases filed within the Collin County Civil Court System. These cases are listed below.

219-52257-2008 In the Matter of the Marriage of Janice Carlson v. Eric Carlson in the Interest of Nicholas Carlson 07/24/2008 219th District Court Divorce with Children Case is Closed

366-52408-2008 In the Matter of the Marriage of Kerry Langley Ketcher v. Jerry Lee Ketcher in the Interest of Koby Lee Ketcher, Kyle William Ketcher 07/31/2008 366th District Court Divorce with Children Case is Closed

401-51398-2008 In The Matter Of The Marriage Of Kenneth Allan Roberts vs. Mary Louise Maiden 05/28/2008 401st District Court Divorce Case is Closed

2195168502 In the Matter of the Marriage of ANDREW CILIA Vs. OLGA MARIA CASTILLO CILIA 05/13/2002 219th District Court Divorce Re-Opened

3665042908 In the Matter of the Marriage of PERLA ANDREA CACIC Vs. MICHAEL HOUSTON CACIC 01/28/2008 366th District Court Divorce Case is Open

3665078308 In the Interest of PETER BERTRAN Vs. MATTHEW TATE 02/18/2008 366th District Court All Other Family Law Matters Case is Open

The state bar number that Davis lists on the State Bar of Texas Website is 24030691. She does have a Bar number. As I learned, just because a person has a bar number, it does not mean they are licensed to practice law in the state of Texas.

This law firm is very unethical and Sharon Easley is a very unethical attorney so just beware of this if you are considering hiring this firm to represent you or are on the opposing side.

She is a licensed attorney in Texas

AUTHOR: Tim - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, April 01, 2010

According to the Texas state bar website, Casey Davis is an active attorney in good stganding. She graduated from the law school at Texas Wesleyan University in December of 2003 and was admitted to practice in May of 2004.

There is nothing to indicate that she is lacking any of the prerequisites to receiving her license.

Regarding the practice of law by law students, most states allow for this under the direction and close supervision of a licensed attorney and in conjunction with legal studies. The student is not issued a bar number. All filings are technically made by the supervising attorney and would bear his or her bar number.

So I too am confused by this report. The state bar may have made an error in its communication to the OP when it stated that Davis was a "non-attorney," or the OP may have misunderstood the response. The bar may have been saying that, since Davis was not an attorney of record for the particular case, the bar could take no action against her. I'm just throwing that out there as a possibility, I really have no idea what happened.

To the aspiring lawyer who wrote a couple of rebuttals: best of luck with your career! I completely understand your aversion to family law. I stayed far away from it for the very reasons you stated. Unfortunately, family law tends to permeate every other area of the law, even including entertainment law, so you won't be able to avoid it entirely. I practice in debtor's rights and remedies and I have to deal with family law issues all the time. Ugly, ugly stuff.

I Don't Understand

AUTHOR: PLS - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, March 29, 2010

I don't understand this entire conversation.  I came across this report doing some research on family law attorneys.  When I did, I went directly to the State Bar website just to check and see.  The attorney in question here is listed on the site with a bar number for all to see.

This report doesn't make sense. . . .

Not valid lawering

AUTHOR: Ruined By Easley - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 20, 2009

Joe, I was cross-examined on the witness stand by Casey during the time her lawyer status is in question. That doesn't sound like paralegal work.
We spent hours fighting over the wording in the final decree over our tax return. My lawyer who has practiced for 20 years, used the standard wording he has always used. The kicker is that we have already filed our return and have split the assets already. Does that sound like something to fight over? You can't tell me that's even a valid discussion. Sure would like to get my daughter's college fund back.

That's What Every Divorce Attorney Does : Fight to get the most for their client

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, April 19, 2009

It looks like to me that the mother is the attorney, the daughter is the paralegal and they are just trying to make the maximum settlement allowable under law for their client.
The only one practicing law here is the mother.

No evidence to convince me that there is anything more going on here than the usual rancorous divorce mess and more reasons why I will NEVER practice family law unless it is in conjunction with my Entertainment Law practice I hope to have when I get out of school.
This lady would be practicing law if she went to court without her mother, approached the bench and made legal arguments and gave the client legal advice without the supervision of a licensed attorney and I see nothing that suggests that she is holding herself out as a licensed attorney at law.
She is a paralegal.
Paralegals keep track of the cases the attorney has and what time the Court will hear them and which court they will be in. They draw up the forms, do the legal research, write the briefs, file the paperwork, etc. & etc.
What paralegals DO NOT DO is represent a client in court. They are the ones who literally load the ammunition the lawyer needs to fight and win the case in court and a good paralegal is worth his/her weight in gold.
I have seen nothing to suggest that there is nothing more transpiring here than an attorney and a paralegal and a VERY BAD DIVORCE as ALL divorces are.
And I hope I NEVER HAVE TO REPRESENT ANY CLIENT IN A DIVORCE ACTION!

I too have experienced Sharon Easley

AUTHOR: Ruined By Easley - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, April 19, 2009

My ex-wife and I decided to get divorced. It was mutual. We had no arguments about property. It was simple. Then Sharon and Casey got my ex all fired up and now we have spent our life savings fighting over minutia. Even my ex will even say Sharon is nuts. She runs to court and files motions without authorization. Yes she makes the worst possible accusation regarding fathers and daughters with no evidence. Now our daughter's college fund is gone, life insurance cashed in to pay lawyers, life savings gone - all for nothing. She should be avoided at all cost. Women with no self confidence trust her to protect them but in fact she just takes their money. I'm all for fighting vigorously if there is a cause. She just likes to fight and find ways to get rich. It's very sad. Actually.. despicable. She is a vulture who preys on women under the guise of protecting them. Shameful...

IF THE BAR WON'T TAKE ANY ACTION, THEN YOU NEED TO TAKE ACTION

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 17, 2009

THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE. THIS IS BASED ON WHAT I READ IN THE TEXAS PENAL CODE AND THINGS I HAVE HEARD AROUND THE COURTHOUSE HERE.

I AM NOT AN ATTORNEY LICENSED TO PRACTICE LAW IN THE STATE OF TEXAS. I AM NOT AN ATTORNEY AT ALL AND I AM NOT PRETENDING TO BE.

WHAT I AM IS A VERY ANGRY PERSON WHO IS STUDYING LAW AND DO NOT WANT CHARLATANS AND UNQUALIFIED RIP OFF PEOPLE MESSING THINGS UP FOR ME WHEN I DO BECOME AN ATTORNEY. AS IF TORT REFORM WASN'T BAD ENOUGH!

IF YOU CAN FIND AN ATTORNEY WHO REALLY CARES OR YOU CAN CONSULT SOMEONE AT THE SMU OR OTHER LAW SCHOOL TO SEE WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT SOMEONE IMPERSONATING AN ATTORNEY --GOOD LUCK!

YOU NEED TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH YOUR DISTRICT ATTORNEY BECAUSE IT IS A CRIMINAL OFFENSE TO PRACTICE LAW WITHOUT A LICENSE UNLESS YOU ARE REPRESENTING YOURSELF IN COURT AND THAT IS LEGAL.

TAKE ALL OF YOUR CAREFUL DOCUMENTATION AND CONTACT YOUR DISTRICT ATTORNEY AND TELL THEM YOU WANT TO FILE A COMPLAINT. do not send the originals, you will need them for court.

YOU ALSO MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER FILING A COMPLAINT WITH YOUR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY BECAUSE IMPERSONATING AN ATTORNEY AT LAW IS LISTED AS A CRIME IN THE TEXAS PENAL CODE.

THE TEXAS PENAL CODE IS ON THE INTERNET. THE OFFENSE IS LISTED THERE.

AND IF YOU WERE YOURSELF HARMED, YOU MIGHT CONSIDER MAKING A PRO SE LAWSUIT AGAINST THE PERSON WHO PRETENDED TO BE AN ATTORNEY.

I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE BAR ASSOCIATION DIDN'T DO SOMETHING BECAUSE THEY USED TO BE HELL ON PEOPLE IMPERSONATING ATTORNEYS AT LAW.

Joe, Very Informative Information You Provided But I am Unclear as to Your Comment About Contacting the Texas Bar as I Have Already Done This.

AUTHOR: Planojustice - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 16, 2009

Your comment, especially about the "paralegal" issue is informative and helpful and may shed some light on our investigation so I want to thank you for what you wrote.

I originally filed an ethics grievance against Sharon Easley and her partner, Lisa Marquis as they should be held jointly and equally liable for the unethical conduct of each other since they are partners. I also filed a grievance against each attorney, including Davis, who is employed within the Easley & Marquis Law Firm and asked the Texas State Bar to hold these attorneys accountable under the vicarious liability statutes for the unethical conduct of the partners and firm. As a result of my grievances filed with the Texas State Bar, I received a letter from the State Bar of Texas which stated, as I stated in my original complaint, that Davis is not licensed in the State of Texas to practice law and therefore the Texas Bar cab take no action against her. Davis has passed the Bar exam and this has been confirmed but she has failed to meet one or more of the eligibility requirements to obtain her license from the texas Supreme Court. I did get in contact with the Texas Bar to inquire as to why she has a Bar number and is listed as an attorney or "member" who is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and I included these findings in my original Ripoff report. The Bar told me to ignore what the website said and to go by what the letter I received states because the Bar has the actual files and would have reviewed and investigated the original files after the complaint was received in Austin.

You can check out the Easley & Marquis website and the printable "client intake forms" on the website will clearly list Casey Davis as an attorney and list her hourly rate at $180.00. She is representing herself to be an attorney when she is not one so therefore she is taking directive, training and advice from her mother, Sharon Easley, and is impersonating an attorney and committing fraud. During my divorce trial, Davis was present in the courtroom and primarily took notes for her mother. Davis did not argue any issues nor speak one word to the court during our trial so what you have stated makes perfect sense if she is only a paralegal as that is the role she portrayed during our trial.

I have filed a complaint with the Texas Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee and they are investigating the complaint. I am also filing a criminal complaint with Collin County District Attorney, John Roach's office so they can investigate Davis, her mother and the Easley & Marquis Law Firm for fraud. Sharon Easley, Casey Davis's mother, is a very unethical attorney and is disliked by a large population of family law attorneys within the Collin County Court and Legal System.

I THINK YOU CAN CHECK IT OUT WITH THE TEXAS BAR ASSOCIATION

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 16, 2009

I AM NOT A LAWYER.

I AM NOT LICENSED TO PRACTICE LAW IN THE STATE OF TEXAS HOWEVER I KNOW A LOT ABOUT LAWYERS AND HOW TO BE ONE IN THIS STATE.

REPEAT I AM NOT A LAWYER WHO IS LICENSED TO PRACTICE LAW IN TEXAS OR IN ANY OTHER STATE.

NOWADAYS, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO BE GRADUATED FROM AN ACCREDITED LAW SCHOOL
AND YOU HAVE TO TAKE AND PASS THE TEXAS BAR EXAMINATION.
WHEN YOU ARE LICENSED TO PRACTICE LAW AND YOU JOIN THE TEXAS BAR ASSOCIATION YOU ARE ISSUED A CARD -- THE BAR CARD. IT HAS A NUMBER ON IT.

WHY DIDN'T YOU CHECK THE TEXAS BAR ASSOCIATION WEBSITE AND MAKE SURE SHE IS OR IS NOT AN ATTORNEY WHO IS LICENSED TO PRACTICE LAW IN TEXAS?

OR YOU COULD CALL THE STATE BAR OF TEXAS AND GET DIRECT CONFIRMATION DURING THEIR REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS. THEY ARE IN AUSTIN,TEXAS AND THEIR NUMBER IS AVAILABLE BY CALLING DIRECTORY ASSISTANCE.

COULD BE THAT SHE IS A CERTIFIED PARALEGAL AND AS LONG AS SHE IS WORKING UNDER THE DIRECT SUPERVISION OF AN ATTORNEY WHO IS LICENSED TO PRACTICE
LAW IN THE STATE OF TEXAS, SHE CAN DO WHAT SHE DOES...ONLY SHE CAN'T ARGUE A CASE IN COURT OR REPRESENT ANYONE IN COURT AND SHE CAN'T GIVE LEGAL ADVICE CONCERNING QUESTIONS OF LAW TO ANYONE.

THIS IS RATHER COMPLICATED FOR NON-LAWYERS TO UNDERSTAND BUT FOR THOSE OF US WHO STUDY THIS IT IS VERY COMPLICATED TOO WHICH IS WHY I DO NOT GIVE LEGAL ADVICE ON FACTS OF LAW OR ANYTHING ELSE AND SUGGEST THAT YOU CALL THE TEXAS BAR ASSOCIATION IN THIS MATTER.

IT IS A CRIMINAL OFFENSE TO IMPERSONATE A LAWYER IN TEXAS.
