These guys claim a way to make money online from home, I can't believe I fell for it, but a friend recommended them. So I thought for $0 for a trial, why not. They request a credit card claiming ) will be charged and it is used for verification only, then I checked my credit card balance and they took out $79! It's under the name of Lock Media LLC. I called them to get the charge reversed and it was some Indian on the phone who I could barely understand and he was rude. I'm waiting for my Credit Card company to refund the charge since they didn't seem too willing. I'm embarrassed I fell for it. I never fall for these kinds of things, but since my friend said she'd had luck, I wanted to try. I'm mortified.

I found a number while I was still on their site, but it was useless, the person on the other end was not cooperative. I called my credit card company and they removed the fraudulent charge.

I guess what you say is true, although I have had to use a credit card on usps.com to change my address and it was to verify it came from me, so in most cases you are right, but I have had to use a CC to verify my identity before and it was perfectly valid.

There is only one reason that someone would need your credit card info, and that is to charge you for something.    Credit cards are not a form of ID and cannot be used to verify anything.   The only people who tell you that they need your credit card only for "verification" are people who are about to scam you.
