I wrote you about these people before. I have left numerous messages. cannot send email to them as they are to cheap to allow that. got another letter in the mail today to pay a $901.09 phone bill I do not owe. what do I have to do to get these idiots off my back? Whenever I call they are always closed. its funny that they cannot return messages but can send stinkin letters to my address for someone who does not live here. suggestions for how to deal with these idiots? i am sick of it.

M.J., Please clear this up

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

M.J.,

You said they are sending you letters, then you said they are for someone that does not live here.

Are the letters you are recieving in YOUR name?

FYI. Never call a debt collector. Always communicate in writing and by certified mail, return reciept requested. By this means, you need to just send a CEASE COMMUNICATION request, as per your rights under the FDCPA which you can read at FTC.gov, and you can file a complaint against them while there.

Be careful not to give them ANY personal information like SS#, DOB, employment, etc. And DO NOT sign any letters, just print or initial. Your signature could appear on some document you have never seen.

#4 Consumer Suggestion

All due respect.

AUTHOR: Brittany - (U.S.A.)

Hope this helps!

According to the Federal Trade Commission's Laws regarding collections:

If they have been notified of an incorrected address or phone number, they MUST stop contacting you. It is considered harrasement and is against the law.

For 2 resons:
1. They are providing you, a 3rd party" with information of someone elses debt. Yes, you do have the right to open mail that comes to house time and time again if it is in good faith of contacting the sender to correct the issue.

2.For example, debt collectors may not:

use threats of violence or harm;
publish a list of consumers who refuse to pay their debts (except to a credit bureau);
use obscene or profane language; or repeatedly use the telephone to annoy someone

Here it is stated right off of the site:

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/fdc.htm

"May a debt collector contact anyone else about your debt?
If you have an attorney, the debt collector must contact the attorney, rather than you. If you do not have an attorney, a collector may contact other people, but only to find out where you live, what your phone number is, and where you work. Collectors usually are prohibited from contacting such third parties more than once. In most cases, the collector may not tell anyone other than you and your attorney that you owe money."

Call your post master and make a complaint and post a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
