Celadon trucking of Indianapolis Indiana is a great company to work for if you are a company driver NOT A LEASE PURCHASE DRIVER!!!!

I worked for Celadon for 5 1/2 years , 2.5 as a company driver , the rest under the LEASE-LESS PURCHASE PROGRAM. As a company driver it was the best company to work for , decent miles and the vacation package is unmatched anywhere. As a company driver i even got to represent Celadon in the IMTA truck rodeo in 2005 , the excitement in this message ends here.
I decided to sign on in the Lease-less purchase program , for the first year it went great , everything went smooth , Celadon even helped me repair my used truck when it broke down, but in February of 2009 with only 11 months left to pay on the truck Celadon's O/O payroll dept (Amy) called me and said "oops we messed up and did'nt make your truck paymentS to the bank , what are YOU going to do about it?" P.S. they were obligated to make the payments for the driver.

This "oops" cost me $5500.00 plus , they claimed no responsibility to it and i had to double up the payments to try to catch up .Then the worst thing happened , i broke down back to back , and was only given 500-1500 miles a week prior to this , with no money on hand i asked Celadon to help , they denied me any help BUT DID OFFER ME ANOTHER TRUCK FOR ANOTHER 3 YEAR LEASE!!!.
The older broken truck would be sent back and the payments added to my new truck while the repo would still be on my record WHAT A DEAL!!!

sounds like and yup it was a scam , come to find out quite a few other drivers lost thier trucks in a similar fashion , also celadons accounting service ATBS out of Colorado informed me that Celadon wanted to ditch the finance company that sold the trucks to the drivers and start thier own , had to liquidate thier ties to make this happen.

In closing ask lots of questions , and get IT ALL!!! in writing I lost mine , DONT LOSE YOURS!!

How could you possibly have 8000 miles in three weeks and be hundreds of dollars in the hole with them?  payment is mile based so no miles no payment, fixed  expenses are around $280 give or take  and that's per week so it doesn't take hardly any miles to cover those. The only thing I can  figure is he is filling his fuel tanks full all the time and you can't do that. only put a hair more than the miles on each load calls for so you have a bit for the autostart and that way each load pays for its own fuel and you will  also be able to work out the net profit on each load that way and know if you need to turn it down. most of all  you need to know mileage the truck is  getting so you can do the above and get the apps for your phone that the truck stops offer and use them to compare fuel prices and always buy as cheap as possible.

Celadon Trucking and their L/P program..

AUTHOR: jmayton29 - (United States of America)

In response to alot of Disgruntle Truck Drivers not making any kind of money with Celadon's L/P program. I will say this and only this. When you go into this program, READ YOUR CONTRACT.

No you are not Guaranteed miles, but you have to put in the effort of delivering on time freight.

Putting in your macros when youre ready for another load. making sure you have the hours to run those loads..and SLOW DOWN your truck..

Think about it, youre averaging your truck at 6.5mpg when you see the mileage on your Qualcom box. by slowing your truck down to 58 to 60 mph..your fuel conservation rises to an average of 8.6 to 11.9 mpg. plus youre being safe.

Going 65 plus mph down the road is just blowing money out your stack..

For Instance on why alot of drivers are not making any kind of money with Celadon's lease purchase program. They 1) Always have the AC and Heat on full blast. 2) always pull into the truck stops and do their business there where they should be driving down the road keeping that door closed and letting them wheels roll. 3) Scream at their Driver Managers and Dispatchers about petty mishaps.

4) poor route planning. 5) Pick trucks cause they think its pretty on the inside or its a brand new truck..6) refurse loads running 200 miles down the road or just not wanting to go to certain locations.

I have been on Celadon's L/P program and i must say it is not the best one out there..however it is a walk away lease. and yes its a Glorified Company driver position but on the other hand. you have to treat it like you own the business, youre representing a Company on your actions and looks.

if youre not a business person yourself? dont do it...If youve never owned a business or ran a business, dont do it...youre going to take loses in any business you get into..thats why you save,save,save...investing is the key to growing a company you will soon one day own. i had to stop my wife in buying all kinds of things like new clothes or new car or even more new things cause we are investing into a business..When you see your paycheck every week and its 2,000 dollars..dont blow it all!!! and put 75% of it away if you can..Cause youre going to need it to make your business grow..

Right Now Ive been Averaging on a payscale with Celadon $200 to $2000 a week..But those $200 a week bring home days are generally on my downfall because I didnt push it hard enough to keep rolling. So there once again, Its mainly on the Driver's Actions..

So with all that said, you have to look at the source on where all this information comes from when reporting about how bad a company is on a program.

My thoughts on the company? Are actually pretty good..The DM's have bad days because theyve got those everyday Drivers yelling and screaming at them.. and by the time you talk to them, well they are already angry...So a little words of wisdom..always put in the effort of talking nice to your planners and DM's. Dont be a Jerk. Send them a Good morning and funny happy message to them when things go bad or messed up..They work for the same team.. and thats what you are is a Team..they set you up on freight, and you make sure you plan accordingly to get it there. and be ready to for the next one following..My way of doing things is this,my very first load I got, I drove it to the consignee..on that day of delivery I automatically send out a message saying im ready for dispatch..It gives those planners time to know youre gonna be ready for another run. And remember, ETA and PTA...keep them adjusted as much as you can. Call your DM on a daily basis on asking do you have something else ready for me to run.. and if you do all that, I will promise you will get a good 3500 miles a week from Celadon... Tell them youre ready to run like a Greyhound Dog at a race..and they will make sure you do just that. but slack off? and its on you..
