I started Cellular One service in Wisconsin in July last year. It was a 2 year contract. I had to go with them as Verizon had no coverage where i lived in Wisconsin. I had NO OTHER CHOICES!
Well 3 weeks ago i moved to Montana. I wanted to do a market transfer and get a local # but when i called i found out that Cell One is not Cell One nationwide!! There is more than 1 Cell One as they are franchised and most do not transfer between each other!!
Now i am stuck with a GSM phone in a state with only Analog and Digital coverage and was forced into a nationwide plan which is 2X the $$ i was paying before with 2/3'ds the minutes i had on a local plan in Wisconsin!!!!!!
My friend with Cell One out here has service where i don't even though were both with Cell One!! The only way out of the contract is to pay $20 per phone for the 16 months i have left in it!!!! That is $640!!!!!!!!!! I have transfered with Verizon 3 different times and never had this issue!!!
I think it is VERY deceptive for a company that uses the same logo nationwide to do this!! Just thought EVERYONE should know about there deceptive practices!! I am posting this on no less than 20 web boards with over 500,000 members between them. I hope it takes a bite out of Cell One's pocket as there sure taking a bite out of mine!

Steve your info is correct with policies etc from what I read. I know when you are refering to digital it is TDMA,however GSM is digital too.

GSM is the dominant 2G digital mobile phone standard for most of the world. It determines the way in which mobile phones communicate with the land-based network of towers.
GSM is one of two major mobile phone technologies in the U.S. The other is CDMA. Cingular and T-Mobile use GSM. Sprint and Verizon use CDMA. GSM is more prevalent in most other parts of the world, and especially in Europe.
Although GSM and CDMA provide similar basic features and services to end-users, (such as voice calling, text messaging, and data services,) they operate very differently at many technical levels. This makes GSM phones completely incompatible with CDMA networks, and vice-versa.
The most visible feature of GSM are SIM cards. SIM cards are removable, thumbnail-sized smart cards which identify the user on the network, and can also store information such as phone book entries. SIM cards allows users to switch phones by simply moving their SIM card from one phone to the other.

I am in Duluth and I have been with Cell One for 2 yrs and I will sign another 2 yr contract. I have had no problems with them. I have 4 lines on my account and there has been problems with the users of these phones (teenage children) but when these problems came up, all I did was call customer care and they helped me, they have been nothing but helpful to me. I have friends that are with other companies that are nationally known, we all know who they are, and I will tell you they have dropped call bad reception and a host of other things. I will stay with Cell One, they help any way they can, you just have to be reasonable.

Steven uses the Cellular/Dobson propraganda line. The truth is they do not care, they rip off the elderly. They tell you they are calling from corp. offices when in fact it is just a boiler room to rip-off consumers//They offer nice phones but a nice phone that does not work is a nice book end. This company I hope will be investagated by the FTC. If anybody want to make a complaint please go to www.ftc.gov

No markets in montana

The reason you were not able to get a local Montana number is because we dont have a market in Montana. If we did I'm sure you would be able to get a Montana number....I've had many calls with people moving to Cali or peple moving to Colorado and wanting a new number with their NPA-NXX we dont have area codes for these states because they arent in our markets we only have markets in a few states.
As for you not having service with your GSM phone you can always call in to customer care and we can always send your sim card an update which will make the signal bar go up.
The analog and digital phones are going out of style. It was a part of history that is now catching up with the future. There will be no Analog or Digital Coverage anywhere before too long. Yes you might have had a good plan on Digital but whats a good plan when your not going to be able to use the phone?
Believe me GSM is much better we are putting up towers every day to fit the needs of our GSM customers.
I am sorry you feel like our company has decieved you but we try and do everything but that. We are here for you and if you have problems call in either dial 611 from your cellular device or 1800-934-3996
