This past week was made a miserable living hell for my father by the dirty scumbag tactics of Century 1 Van Lines and Nationwide Relocation Services.
I live in my parents home in North Carolina. My parents recently bought another home out in Nevada and now reside there. When they moved out to Nevada they left a lot of their belongings and furniture here in North Carolina. My father went through Nationwide to find a carrier to move thier stuff to Nevada.
Nationwide eventually found Century 1 Van Lines to do the move. This was done months ago. Nationwide sent my father a contract for the move and made him pay a substantial deposit which supposedly would go to pay Century 1 for their services.
Last week my father drove all the way from Nevada to North Carolina to help get ready for the move. Thursday July 10 was the agreed pickup date on the Nationwide contract. Needless to say Thursday came and Thursday went until later that night after my father made many phone inquiries to Nationwide about the whereabouts of the moving truck. Supposedly they left messages with the Century 1 dispatcher and never got replies.
Fed up my father finally asked for Century 1's dispatch number and called himself. The dispatcher told may father the story that the truck ran into heavy rains and was delayed. A phone call to warn us would've been nice. They then said that the truck would be there Friday morning. Well again, Friday morning came and went with no truck insight. Only after my father left many messages on their voicemail did they finally call back and say that the truck would be late and come Saturday morning instead.
Well, you know the story, Saturday came and Saturday went. No truck again! My distraught father leaves many messages to both Nationwide and Century 1 to no avail.
Only on Sunday morning after my father leaves a message threatening a breach of contract lawsuit does Century 1 call back giving the excuse that the truck was too full Saturday morning to come pick up our stuff. I guess that have no clue how to use a phone to let us know what the deal is! Incredibly on Friday night the dispatcher said that we would be the first stop. How the hell could the truck be too Full when we were suppose to be the first stop!? Pathetic LIARS!
The movers finally came at 1 PM Monday morning ,three hours later than what the dispatcher promised. They made us have to meet them at a gas station to lead them to our house.
Instead of the promised 4 packers there were only 2 not including the driver who spent the first couple hours sitting in his truck talking on his cell phone.
The most outragoues part comes next when the driver tells my father that they needed a $1200 deposit up front plus $1100 for packing material charges before they would load us. My father is livid at this point. He already paid a moving deposit to ther broker Ntionwide and now Century 1 wants another deposit. My father immediately calls Nationwide. They tell him that he wouldn't have to pay Century 1 another deposit.
At this point the driver calls his boss and the owner of Century 1 Eli Ben Dahan to speak with my father. He insists that my father pay the deposit and packing charge before loading our stuff. Highly frustrated at this point my father tries to get the payment of to Eli through Western Union on his credit card. With the banks closed and having left his checkbook in Nevada this is the only choice given my father. All this while the packers are still loading our stuff onto the truck and we would be getting charged for the $1100 packing material charge regardless if we decided to pull our stuff off the truck or not.
$1100 dollars for a few dozen boxes and some old packing blankets that we could have bought at Office Depot for a couple hundred bucks!! Absurd. That's the biggest load of crap I've ever heard of.
Eli eventuall calls back and tells my father that he could have until Friday to send him payment through Western Union. Incredibly the driver tells my father that Eli instructed him to tell my father to Western Union the money to the driver, the DRIVER! Does anyone smell a rat help.
All this while Nationwide is of absolutely no help. They were the ones who got their money first and are laxadaisical in their efforts to help us out. Repeated calls to their customer service have my father put on hold repeatedly and given the run- around
when someone finally answers.
I must state that the packers themselves did a great job. They were hardworking, careful, and courteous. It's thier lying deceitful bosses at Century 1 Van Lines that may my blood boil. My father left to go back to Nevada this morning to be with his wife and my mom. My parents possessions our now in the hands of these crooks and my father has the added burden of having to come up with the money to pay a moving deposit that he ALREADY PAID to Nationwide and now is being forced to pay Century 1 Van Lines. It makes me sick to my stomach to see these rotten SOB's scamming honest hardworking people like my parents out of their money.
I hope that nobody else uses these two crooked companies. They WILL take you for a ride just like they did my father. These people have no heart and would steal from their own mothers!
I want the whole world to know about these thieves and would like to know if anybody else had a similar bad experience with them.
I will continue to tell this story to everybody and anybody to stop these scumbags from cheating anyboldy else. I will also report them to all the consumer protection groups I can find and certainly the Attorneys General Offices of every state they operate in.
