After a potential customer contacts them, they have them fill out and application and provide references. If the references are good and they believe it will be a good home for the puppy, they will allow them to purchase the dog. They are provided with a contract of sale, Shrinkabulls keeps one copy and the customer gets the other. Shrinkabulls only allows adoptions to good homes, their goal is a happy and healthy life for all their bulldogs.
Shrinkabulls is not a certified business, they are hobby breeders. They are registered with the AKC and SDI. The AKC came out and did a home inspection in 2013 because that is required if a breeder has over 6 litters in a year, or over 20 transactions. They passed the inspection and are AKC and SDI registered. They also have OFA, CGC titles, and FCI, all of which are currently maintained and in good standing. During the onsite interview, Owner Abe Ward was asked to describe some of the common complaints that they receive: “We have never, ever received one legitimate complaint. Never, ever, ever, ever, ever! Never! Because we will break our necks for people, we will give them free puppies or whatever they want, to solve a complaint. All the time we go above and beyond what any other breeder would do, but the fact is our reputation is huge. We have dogs that are in music videos that have been viewed thousands of times. The only complaint we had, the last complaint we had, was from a lady that said we were not AKC registered, we’re not a breeder, and we never even sold her a dog! We never met her in person and I have all the proof (of the dog’s lineage). We were accused of importing the puppies from other countries. I have the DNA proof, the AKC records, I showed them, and I put it on my Ripoff Report. After we came back to the report it was proven to be a fraudulent claim. We have never had a real, actual legitimate complaint because it’s pretty easy with what we do to do right by people, it’s not that complicated. No one trying to do wrong would refund your money, pay vet bills, and let you have the puppy! Their standard practice for taking care of a complaint is to get back with people as fast as they can and try to be reasonable. They go over their contract and, if necessary, a replacement puppy is offered. Their contract states that they do not give cash refunds, but they have given cash refunds in the past if the customer is not interested in a replacement puppy. Mr. Ward was asked to describe a specific situation where a client was not satisfied with the level of service or products they received: “We basically will do anything. We hope they will be reasonable, but if they won’t relent we’ll do it. The only 2 complaints we had, the people offered a rebuttal on Ripoff Report, and they went back and publically apologized on Ripoff Report. The only one that didn’t was someone that didn’t buy a puppy from us. She never even dealt with us.”
Shrinkabulls has a standard process for following up with customers after a purchase. When a puppy goes home with its new owner, they follow up at least every other day by phone or email for the first few days. After contacting Champ Bulldogs also affiliated with Shrinkabulls regarding a puppy I was interested in the whole disaster started right before my eyes. The lady was kind and very informing at first, her name was Caroline and although she never would give me her last name or much information about herself she claimed to have worked directly with Andrea and Scott Ward which are the owners of Champ Bulldogs or Shrinkabulls. I was given a long sob story about her health, how the puppies meant so much to the family and were the last of a dying pedigree that would always be extremely special to them. Then the BS started, I was rushed into placing a deposit only 24 hours after making contact, not given any information about their AKC registry and only told the dogs were FCI papered and in the process of being dually registered with the AKC at which time she sent me a sire liter processing receipt. Which later I found out to be a bunch of lies, AKC never once could verify the information they were giving to me, Bulldog Club of America which I was referred to by the AKC was very informing and almost alarming to what degree these people go to scam people out of their money. I soon learned all information I was being given was falsified and from a litter they'd registered in 2009. I was given a name and number for a veterinarian hospital they claimed had helped with the birthing of the beautiful puppy I was interested in, after doing my research I found that the Vet was nowhere I would ever take my dog and hardly recognized by any credentials, website or AKC and BCA associations. They then started to get a little frusterated as I worked through the information, constantly staying in contact with them and allowing them to keep providing any and all information they were able to. All of which was very confusing and completely bogus without any verifiable means. After making multiple calls to the AKC trying to verify their registrations, I finally followed their advice and caled the Bulldog Club of America and had a long talk with a lady that knew of Scott Ward and his entourage quite well and over the last 15+ years has heard and dealt with many of unsatisfied clients. I was told the puppies they are selling won't ever be AKC registered because they're all from the Netherlands and other foreign countries along with a lot of examples from other clients that have had beyond bad experiences with Champ Bulldogs. Caroline will all along maintain that the reason nothing checks out is because they're FCI registered and in the process of being AKC registered, if you check into that it won't add up and will just end with that's not even possible. After giving them the benefit of the doubt I was going to still try and work something out as the puppy they showed photos of on their website was absolutely adorable. But after asking for references multiple times I realized she was ignoring my request, never once gave me an email or telephone number to a happy client and sort of looking past that I figured if they could send me current cell phone photos of the puppy with todays date on a piece of paper then maybe we could still work something out, that again was a dead end and something they refused to do. Only then she said I have asked for more information than anybody they've ever sold a puppy to and that they would be keeping the dog I placed a deposit on but would not be able to refund my deposit because that's non-refundable. I never once told them I was done doing my research and trying to pursue the purchase of the dog, I simply stated how I was interested in finding out more information and hopefully something confirming enough to feel safe about wiring them as they requested the remaining $4,700. They would pressure me, say that I needed to send the money before they sold the puppy to another family that was interested and then once I had told them nothing checked out and that I was going to need photos and references they decided they were going to keep the puppy. I spoke with a lady that was referred to me through the BCA and she explained how her expereience went with them quite some years ago and just off what she stated I had finally made my decision it was time to write this review and let others possibly interseted in the Champ Bulldogs know it's nothing to get involved with. They won't let you come to their home and purchase the dog, only want to ship the puppy via United Airlines and will demand your deposit immediately after contact stating they have many of interested people that are looking for puppies and they won't be able to hold it without the deposit. Immediately after receiving the deposit they'll flood your inbox with unnessecary information all to take your attention off what really matters and then request you send the remaining funds within 48 - 72 hours or else they'll have to sell the puppy to the next interested individual.
Last words would be to contact me with any questions regarding my experience and to stay away until you have checked each and every avenue given to you. They are very good at what they do, have no credentials and will not give you references as the AKC requested I have before ever considering a purchase online. They won't allow you to meet the sire or dam (father or mother) and continously confuse you on where they're located. They gave me information to three different towns located in Ohio and claim Scott lives in Maryland and that they just recently relocated to Ohio. I have made contact with the Attorney General for the state of Ohio and plan to speak with the Better Business Bureau about their conduct as well.
