Wow where do I start. So far in the last 6 months I have got over $2000 in wrongful bounce fees. And $500 of that refunded.

This bank does nothing but lie to their customers. I went with this bank for the simple reason that they would post all deposits before 2:00 pm on the same day. What a joke. I am lucky if they post it in 7 days. They also claim " instant deposit of all eft " Well this is a load of balderdash. This bank will hold all checks drawn of your account, until they see that your funds are low. Then they will hurry up and put them through and nail you hard with bounce fees. And never look to see if you have pending deposits. I am also going to contact the state attorney general, as well as the bbb and a good laywer.

Never use this bank. They are worst than a international terrorist or a con man in jackson prison

#1 UPDATE Employee

I could really care less whether or not anyone is SATISFIED with my rebuttals.

AUTHOR: Johnny B. - (U.S.A.)

The gloves are off as they say. I don't care how satisfied a customer is with my response on this site. I am just telling people how it is. Most bank employees secretly complain about how whiny customers are when they are irresponsible with their money.

Besides, Charter One is soon to be Citizens Bank, so all of us Information Reps are losing our jobs in July. All banks make their money from some type of fees, and you would think that by now, people would start watching their money, not trying to make excuses, play the blame game, and devise half-assed schemes to try and rip off the bank. Especially if they are living paycheck to paycheck. If you can take the time to post a complaint on this website about how bad the bank is, why not take that time and read about how to maintain your account?

I could care less if customers that have a whopping $13.00 overdraw their accounts, and then end up owing us money. Big whoop, my salary will definately not be affected by that, or any customer that closes their account because of an overdraft. Charter One wasn't bought out by Citizens because it has so many unsatisfied customers, or because it wasn't making enough money. Just a taste of whats to come, now instead of have a large overdraft with Charter One, currently $33.00, once Citizens takes over it will be a whole $1 to $4 dollars less...WOW. Instead, you will be charged various maintenence fees, anywhere from $1.00 to $5.00 per month. Guess what? Now instead of the bank making the money from irresponsible individuals, they will take their money slowly from everyone!!!

Just in case you were wondering, I only stick up for the bank because in most cases, the overdraft fees or maintenence fees are the customer's fault, if there was ever a bonified true rip off from the bank that could not have been prevented, say, from reading the information provided to them at the open of the account, then I would present a valid argument on the consumer's side, maybe even try to help them out if I thought their complaint was sincere.

By the way, I've never stolen a dollar from anyone. If there is any way to help a customer get their money back, I would do my very best to help them out, as Customer Satisfaction is definately my main concern, when I am ON THE CLOCK.

Please deposit foreign currency!!! The bank needs more morons like you.

AUTHOR: Johnny - (U.S.A.)

I let this one be short and sweet. I was not giving legal advice, and there have been no class action law suits that anyone here at Charter One has been made aware of regarding fees. I have heard that his dispute is dispute would be laughed at, as many people have tried, none have succeeded.

By the way, there is a $7.50 fee for depositing foreign currency at Charter One.

exchange rates can actually fluctuate and you can make money... Nice logic

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

So according to you, we should just all lay down and pay the bank whatever, or else they will just raise the fees. The bank is above recourse from the customer. You must be a great employee. If you work for a bank, you know that exchange rates can actually fluctuate and you can make money.
But according to you nothing matters because the bank will find a way to still make money from you.
That is flawed logic. That is the same logic used when people say if you boycott a product or sue a company then the company will charge more and make the same money and everyone else will lose. That is not true at all.

As a bank employee you should realize customer satisfaction is key, and there is a fair market value to all services, yes, even the invincible bank you work for. So keep up the attitdue you have, you will do more damage to your bank with that attitude on the inside then I could ever imagine doing. If you haven't noticed, there are many complaints and many people leaving your bank and you are turning a blind eye. Those people leaving pay your salary. Don't ever forget it.
Thanks for all your help in the fight against unjust banks! Now get back to work, you have money to steal!

Mike has a good idea....I

AUTHOR: D - (U.S.A.)

Mike you have a great idea. Why do it with a 20.00? Why don't you do it with a 100.00 and cause the banks more trouble. Go a head and do it and in the long run YOU will lose MORE money than the bank will because YOU will end up with all the foreign coin and the only place you will be able to use it will be up in canada. And just remember, If you start causing the fees for the bank to go up, the bank will just have to RAISE the fees that they charge to people who bounce checks. Have a nice day. And just incase you were wondering, I DO work for a bank.

Charter One is a joke

AUTHOR: Tracy - (U.S.A.)

I closed my account on 11/19/04. The Halfmoon branch closed it no problem. The next day I am told I have NSF fees on a closed account. They reopened my account to take a megarewards fee, remember the account is closed. Now they are charging me $33.00 over and over again. I refuse to pay this, I closed the account with nothing outstanding. This is illegal!

#6 Consumer Suggestion

No one will laugh. The language in any agreement is usually disputable.

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

The language in any agreement is usually disputable. If language in any signed agreement is vague and uses terms like, "generally", or if you were mislead or misinformed when signing such agreement there are ways to fight it and render it invalid.

It just depends if you want to spend the money and time.

A better idea is to leave the bank and go somewhere else. After enough people leave, employees that say your dispute is laughable will have to look for jobs elsewhere, they will most certainly be the ones to go.

I would ignore the legal advice posted here from a bank employee, who only knows what the company memos tell him about the legality of your dipute and proceed with any action you deem necessary.
On top of that, if you are bored, start running up bank costs by going into branches exchanging USA currency for Canadian and then going to another and exchanging it back. Then go in, ask for change on a twenty and make a lot of small talk with the bank teller and tie them up for as long as possible. The leave and do it at another branch.

Works well, you can see the look of disdain on their faces. It can be a lot of fun.

The Attorney General Is Really Going To Laugh At You

AUTHOR: Johhny B - (U.S.A.)

I am an employee of Charter One Bank, and can tell you outright, that while some of their fees can be rather expensive, if you are responsible you will never have to pay a fee.

The attorney general can not, and will not do anything about your fees, because when you opened your account, you signed a paper that stated "I have read and retained all of the Account Rules and Regulations Booklet." This is basically saying that you have read all of the rules is this 52 page booklet, as well as the banks fee structure (the last four pages of the account rules and regulations). In the rules and regulations booklet, it states that generally check deposits will be made available for withdrawl the next business day after the day of deposit. However, it also states that longer delays may apply. All direct deposits are made available the day of deposit, same as cash. We do not post items to your account 3 to 5 times a day, as this is just an outright lie. We post items to your account, including deposits between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 8:00p.m. once daily.

Please, read the account rules and regulations booklet, and you will find that if you take the time to be responsible, Charter One Bank can be a very decent bank. If you have an account that requires a minimum balance, or you feel that you can not fulfill all of the obligations in order to keep your account "fee Free" you can always change the account type. Almost all of the fees can be avoided if the right amount of time and care is put into maintaining your account. All banks have to make money somehow, all banks have fees, and while Charter One does not have the most inexpensive overdraft charges around, it is one of the best banks out there when it comes to the smaller fees. If you live paycheck to paycheck, and frequently overdraw your account, then maybe Charter One bank is not the bank for you. I've had three accounts with Charter One bank, and I've never been charged any fees what so ever. I've had all my accounts for more than 3 years.
