I am writing this report because I don't know what else to do. I am extremely upset by all that CYS of Venango County has done to these young parents.
The girl is 16, and wants to be a teenager. The boy is 19, and wants to be a good father, has been looking for a job, and does a good job with their 8 month old son. The father lives under my roof with my husband, myself, and our 3 children.
The great grandmother, who the girl and baby live with, has lied to CYS about many things, doing everything she possibly can to take the baby away from the parents. In the last 3 days, she has told them that she didn't know where they were, knowing full well they were at my house, with the father of the baby. I heard her saying that she just knew that the girl was taking the baby to the father just to dump him on him so she could run the streets. The reason CYS is involved with the baby, is because the grandmother told the girl to get out a few weeks ago, then called CYS and told them that she abandoned the baby. I have offered to foster her and the baby, but because I don't have a spare bedroom, they won't approve me. I was told if I got a bigger place, I would be approved, but I am having a hard time finding a big enough place in the area to rent. I need at least 4 bedrooms, and at the moment I only have 3.
Yesterday, we got a call from the girl, stating that CYS is going to her house on Monday, and told the grandmother to make sure she wasn't there. There's talk of signing the baby over to the grandmother, who's 74, and sending the mother away to a mental hospital of some sort, then to a youth facility. As I previously mentioned, the grandmother has been trying from the get go to try to take the baby from the parents.
Instead of teaching this girl how to be a good mother, and making her responsible for the baby, the grandmother does all of it, then complains that the girl does nothing. When they are at my house, which is pretty frequently, I make the parents be responsible. I tell them to change him, feed him, etc. when it needs to be done. They are young, and inexperienced, but the only way they will learn to be good parents is to have good role models and someone to guide them.
I want to help in any way I can, including moving my family to a bigger place to accomodate the three of them. I would hire a lawyer to represent them, but I don't have the money. If there are any lawyers out there who are willing to either work out a payment plan, or do pro bono, PLEASE contact me. CYS has basically told the father that they don't care about him, and won't give him the baby. He's the baby's father. Shouldn't he have more rights than this grandmother? The baby's mother has stated that she will sign full custody over to him if that's what it will take to keep her grandmother from taking the baby away.
If there are any landlords out there who would be willing to accept hud, and has a house 4+ bedrooms, in northern Venango County, please contact me. I need some help and guidance here. I'm at a loss, and I'm weary of CYS believing EVERYTHING this grandmother says, regardless of what she says is true or not.
