Child Protective Services Rip-Off My husband was in Iraq when my step-son was picked up by child protective services. I foolishly listened to doctors whom advised me to contact CPS and tell them that I refuse to pick him up because he was a danger to the other children in my home. Copperas Cove Texas

After about a week in the hospital, where he has been on numerous occasions, the doctors recommended that I call CPS and tell them that I will not be picking him up from the hospital. I asked if he could go to residential as he has many times in previous years but they told me that my insurance company felt it was a waste of money. I also attempted to find him a facility before he would be released in a few days. I called every facility that CPS gave me and none of them would take him due to his violent behavior. This all occurred while my husband was in Iraq. My husband had enough on his mind over there with the daily mortar attacks that he didnt need to be worrying about us over here.
My husband now is paying child support which he should but CPS tells us they cant find the bioliogical mother even though Ive given them a number and a social security number. The bioliogical mother has never paid child support for the children after she went to jail for abuse on them. The children have been in therapy for years and the only ones that seem to pay our the children and us, never her.
My husband also has been charged with abandonment even though he was in Iraq. The biological mother has no charges on her even though she has abandoned these children time and again. Now we worry whether we will be able to continue paying the child support if my husband doesnt have a job.

On Post services not very helpful

POSTED: Saturday, March 04, 2006Lastly, since your son's behavior seems to be a mental issue (and I know this because I have children with "issues AND I worked as a CNA in the Army) although CPS says they can pull your childs medical records...they can't..not without your consent AND they cannot by any means pull mental health records. Those records are sealed and kept seperate from your child's regular medical record. The only people whocan open the mental health records are you (the parent(s)) and the doctor who treats hjim for mental insability (psychiatrist/psychologist). The reason why they may not have been able to keep him at the hospital my be because the Army hospital here doesn't treat children on a lengthy term for inpatient care and the closest child psych hospital that can provide that is in Austin, also they may have reguarded himas being too young to commit to care.
Well, that's my spill on the issue; I pray that it helps!

Local Family Guidance Center

POSTED: Friday, September 10, 2004Look in your local telephone directory and see if there is a Community Guidance Center near you. There should be a class called "Anger Management" that would help you and your child. It won't hurt to even take the class more than one time to help him understand where his anger is coming from. They should also have some classes in Parenting that should help you, too. Their cost is minimal.
All DHS/CPS will do is try to get you and all his parents to relinquish parenting rights so they can adopt him to someone of their choice. They want money and the only way they can get their money is to take your parenting rights away ... parent by parent.
The Adoptions and Safe Families Act of 1997 is promoting DHS/CPS to take more and more children into custody and take parenting rights away so they can adopt them. They'll get thousands of dollars in rewards and bonuses for adopting these children.
Read, "Adoption 2002: Safe and Permanent Homes for All Children" on the WEB. It tells about the Clinton Administration wanting adoptions to be doubled each year. Now, if Texas adopted 500 children out in 1997, they needed to adopt 1,000 out in 1998, 2000 in 1999, 4000 in 2000, etc. They want to adopt YOUR children out, too, in order to meet their quota so they can get their awards and bonuses.
I would also suggest that you call your local military base or your husband's commanding officer for assistance in the legal matters pertaining to your child. They have good lawyers READY to help you and they're FREE. The "Judge Advocate" office is supposed to REALLY help you. Try calling them.
Good luck. Try to help the child. He'll thank YOU in the end. You're right, your spouse doesn't need this, too, to worry about. Please give him our regards for his service. AND, thank YOU for allowing him to serve his country in trying to protect you and me and all other Americans. Thank YOU!
