I bought a Gateway Laptop computer at Circuit City in Indianapolis, Indiana at the 82nd St Store...Model MT6841..in July of 2007. I have had 3 problems with it so far and this is the 3rd time I have had it sent off..The first time was the pc card slot door malfunctioned so it would not accept the pc card for internet service as I dont always have wifi internet area im in.

I was told the first time by a Gateway cust serv rep at the protection plan number that I had to send it back to gateway which was a different place, since it was under the 1yr warranty and that the protection plan would not kick in until the 1yr was up..The 2nd time I sent my laptop in because the motherboard had drivers for the pc card that went bad and the computer would not recognize the pc card when it was inserted into the laptop...

This was still inside the 1yr so I sent it in to Gateway..Just yesterday being the 5th of Jan 2009 I called gateway warranty and told them that the adaptor on the back of the laptop where my ac adaptor plugs in stopped working not allowing my ac adaptor to charge my battery while I was using my laptop..because my laptop was now passed the 1yr mark I called the gateway protection plan number explained the problem to them and they told me to call circuit city first...

I made the call they had me bring the laptop in first to see if they could fix it...which they could not...those amazing and intelligent firedog/sales people..After the firedog tech told me he couldnt fix the problem he looked up my warranty on the computer and he told me that I have 8 months left on the warranty...I told him that couldnt be right because I had only had the laptop since July 2007 and July 2008 was the end of the mfg Warranty and the protection plan kicked on July 2008 and that my plan would not expire until July 2010 in which I would have 19 months left on the warranty.

I spoke with the store mgr on duty and told her of my discuss. I told her exactly what I was told by the sales/firedog people of how the protection plan worked on the day of the purchase and after the 1yr mfg warranty was up and the other problem I had and this time being after the 1yr was up and now they tell me my protection plan started at the day of purchase and is deceptive of the extended protection plan of additional 2yrs they told me about on the day of purchase that I paid an additional $200 for.

I told her how deceptive this was and all she did was tell me "Im sorry you were misled" I told her I would never buy another thing from circuit city and that I can understand why the circuit city stores have lost so much money to the competitors. It was all about the bottom line of making that extra money selling the protection plan and telling customers what they wanted them to hear to sell the additional product. Circuit City Reps are lying to the consumers so they can make additional money.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Depends on the plan you purchased

AUTHOR: Firendly Firedog - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 13, 2009

These plans are designed to cover things that the manufacturer will not during the first year.

Depending on which plan you purchased ( was it accidental or was it a basic hardware warranty) they cover different things.

The accidental gives you day 1 damage coverage and you would want this coverage to start during the mfg warranty period.

The hardware warranty would protect you from power surges and also give you free diagnostic services on the system that you would normally have to pay for.
