I am glad that Circuit City has folded. Why you may ask when so many people have lost their jobs ? Well the answer is simple, it is better to lose a disreputable company that constantly rips of the public than to acknowledge and reward them by purchasing goods in their stores. Within this supposed Liquidation Sale (hardly) the policy in Tucson is 'Double the original price and then discount it' This happened at the Oracle Road store where an Epson Printer R280 was displayed at $199.99 original price reduced to $59.99. I returned within 2 hours of my purchase after checking the Epson website which showed the rrp at $99.99 and on offer for $59.99. The manager was intimidating and told me I had to leave the store if I wished to make a legal complaint because of his refusal to refund the item. (He is covered here by ridiculous Liquidation Law). I was not happy with his attitude and as I left the store he asked me if I wanted to make it 'personal' as he stood next to a 'bouncer' standing at the exit. I noticed they followed me out of the store, but as luck would have it a police car was parked close by. I headed for it and just left and drove home. If this company can employ 'goons' like this who are apparently (the managers) on a commission for their sales, is it any wonder that they will con and cheat the public to the very end. I hasten to add that this would NEVER happen in the UK because Laws/Statutes exist along with Consumer Services who constantly monitor bad retail practices.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Seriously??

AUTHOR: Zaphoid - (U.S.A.)

This is in response to Laurie. I can't believe I have to say this again, but here goes:

When Circuit City announced it was closing, all their stores' merchandise and (non-vender-owned) fixtures were sold to liquidation companies. The liquidators then mark everything to full MSRP, and take the discount off the top of that. The idea is to move merchandise, but at the same time stay as profitable as possible for as long as possible.

In the first days of the liquidation sale, the discount is small (generally 10-30%). You can find better deals on many items in the weekly ads of competitors. However, as the weeks go on, the discount goes up. In the final days of the two stores I closed, the discount went to 80%, then 90% and finally 95% off. After that, we used "anything you can fit into a shopping basket is $10, etc, until all merchandise was gone. None of this "shipping to or from other failing companies" hobgob that you're talking about. EVERYTHING is sold. Yes, we got shipments from other Circuit Cities that were in poor locations and weren't selling as quickly as anticipated.

After the merchandise is sold, the store stays open for about another week while shelves and fixtures (the safe, stockpicker, cables, security camera system, etc) are sold.

THAT is how liquidations work. Anything else you may have heard is rubbish.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Liquidating Company

AUTHOR: D K - (U.S.A.)

From what I have read on numerous other posts about Circuit City most/all stores are using a Liquidating Co to sell off the rest of the merchandise, NOT actual Circuit City employees. Your statement that you are glad they folded is selfish and ignorant. I only hope you get to experience the same hardships that Circuit City employees are experiencing now. THAT"S called karma.

They have been telling people that GOING OUT OF BUSINESS SALES ARE A CROCK FOR SOMETIME NOW

They bring inventory from other un-related stores as well. Whatever they could not sell from other un-related Going out of Business Sales.

YES THEY MARK IT UP THE POINT IS TO MAKE MONEY - NOT CLEAR INVENTORY

What ever Circuit City is not able to get rid of with their bogus sale will end up at some other businesses going out of business sale in a few months

#4 UPDATE Employee

People - Wake UP!

AUTHOR: Norm Al - (U.S.A.)

There are many employess who have served you and others like you all over the US/Canada. Many of us have families, children, insurance (not after March) and bills...JUST LIKE YOU! Don't ever belittle the good folks who because of corporate greed and stupidity, have to start over.

Don't ask me when is your product is going to be cheaper or when is your last day in business. I might tell something you might not want to hear! By going to get your "deal" you have lowered yourself to the same level of the scumfilled fools that are giving the hard working and dedicated employees of Circuit City a bad reputation.
