BEWARE of Circuit City is you're planning to buy any electronic product from them, specially digital cameras.

I bought a DSCP200 Sony Cyber-shot(r) DSC-P200 Digital Camera as a birthday gift for my wife for $279.99 and I added a CSP 2-year Cityadvantage Protection Plan for other $34.99 with a final total of $337.03 with taxes included.

My wife started using the camera and she commented to me that the flash was not working all the time she took a picture needing a flash. Well, we used the camera about 5 times since then and finally I checked with someone that have the same camera model taking pictures at the same time. His camera worked perfectly but not ours.

I brought the camera in it's original box to the Cirtcuit City store on 14 October 2006 for request it to be repaired or replaced as stated in my service contract. They gave me the Claim Number H3384631 and a phone number to follow up my camera. I told the lady that I want it returned in the same box.

I called at 4:38 PM on 24 Oct 2006 to the phone number 800-555-4615 and I talked to Jose who told me to call back again in an hour.I call again at 6:14 PM and I talked to Alberto this time. He gave me a Case Number 8241274 but no any other information about the status of the repair.

The same day I called to the Circuit City Store 215-464-1710 and I talked to Lauren. She told me that she can't find any information regarding my camera but she said it should be repaired in 2 weeks and they should call me by then. I told her that by that time the camera had 10 days in their hands and I did not received anything from them yet.

My wife and I went again to the store on 30 Oct 2006 and we talked to the manager about our camera but he only replied that the camera was sent to the repair center but he had no idea about when it should be repaired. I asked him for a replacement because we needed the camera for a birthday party we were invited but he answered that it should be replaced only if it should have the same defect or any other repeatedly.

We returned once again on 6 Nov 2006 and we talked to the same manager but he did not tell me anything regarding the camera repair status. Just he told us that the camera was sent to the manufacturer by the repair center but no other details were provided. He gave me another phone number to call to ask about my camera. I commented to him how long it will take because was close to a month without any news about it. He said it had no idea.

I insisted in getting a replacement of my camera due to the long delay in repair the flash but he refused saying that a replacement will proceed only if the manufacturer or the repair center authorize it. I told him about my insatisfaction with the customer service that they were providing for a digital camera repair. I told him that I would feel scare about buying any other thing from them like a HDTV because I could imagine how many problems I should face if I need any repair in it.

Today is 14 November 2006 and it have been a whole and long month since I brought the camera for repair. Next week will be Thanksgiving Day and I will be impeded to take any pictures of our Thanksgiving supper because their negligence in provide a quality service.

Therefore, I want to warn all the good people that are thinking to buy anything from Circuit City for this upcoming holiday season. Don't take any break to suffer what we were suffering for the last month. DO NOT BUY IN CIRCUIT CITY NOR BUY THEIR CITY ADVANTAGE PROTECTION PLAN. It will not be honored promptly or adequately.

I am an employee of a different chain of electronic stores and while Circuit City was a competitor of ours, I feel something should be pointed out.

While the service could have been a bit better from the store you were dealing with,
the main culprit in this case is actually Sony.
Our store constantly runs into problems with getting Sony product serviced.

The way the system works (or is SUPPOSED to work) is the store you are dealing with takes in your Camera.
They send it to the service/repair depot.
At this stage the store you are dealing with has little control over things except to keep hounding them on your behalf.

The service depot is not authorized by Sony to actually work on warranty items and has to send it on to Sony's own repair center.
(my guess is that Sony wants to make sure something is truly a warranty claim?)
Sony takes their own sweet time deciding on repairing or replacing, not informing the service center anything except a vague time frame.
In turn, this is all the service center can tell our store.
Which is all we are able to pass on to the customer.
Of course, we are on the front line for the customer to vent their frustration.
Believe me, we are just as frustrated.

in this particular case...
there was No where else better...
It would have been the same problem regardless of where you bought it.

It's a bit harsh to let everyone out there on the interwebz to say dont shop at any circuit city.

anyhow, Laruen was pretty much the best CSA at that location.

Once you send your camera away, it is out of the store's hands. It is STANDARD that items get replaced within 2 weeks. however, that is not always the deal. When you send your camera away, no matter at what electronic store you are at, most of the time, they will not call you on the status of the product.
The manager of the store usually cannot know the exact date for when the prodct is to be repaired. However, we would only know if it got to that location or not same goes for the customer service associate that you were talking to.

If you expected to just get another camera out of the store as a replacement right away, that's not going to happen...anywhere. The only way you would get a replacement is if the repair location gave authorization or not for the item...and then you would get sent a new one...or your old camera back that's fixed.

Also, if you needed repair on anything, keep in mind that most of the items that were in CC had a 1 year manufacture's warranty on the item(which is free since it comes with the item). The Sales Floor Associates sell Protection Plans to help their own sales as well as the store's location sales goals. The protection plan does offer a semi-better deal though.

I called Circuit City today 15 Nov 2006 at 6:24 PM to ask about any information regarding the Claim No. H3384631 for the Sony DSC-P200 Digital Camera Repair. I talked to Rita who told me that my camera is not in the store yet. She also said that there is no any information that she could tell me. I asked her how long it will take the repair since the camera had one month already with the store for repair it. She told me that she had no idea about when I will know about my camera. I inquired about other phone number to follow up the claim but she only requested from me to call back again tomorrow.

I called Circuit City store today 15 Nov 2006 at 6:24 PM to ask again for the status of my Sony DSC-P200 Digital Camera repair and I talked to Rita to ask about the Claim Number H3384631 status. She told me that my camera is not yet in the store. I inquired how long it will take to get my camera repaired since it had a month already and she only replied saying that is not possible to tell me how long it will take. I insisted in getting other phone number to call to request any information and she only said that I need to call tomorrow.

THINK TWICE IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO BUY FROM CIRCUIT CITY AND SIMPLY DO NOT DO IT. GO ANYWHERE ELSE TO BUY WHAT YOU WANT!!!
