I bought a Targus notebook lock from circuit city on a discounted price. There were two rebates that I could have filed with the notebook lock. One of the rebates was from circuit city for $10.00. The other was from Targus for $10.00 as well. The complaint I have is about the circuit city rebate. I filled out the rebate with all requirements and mailed it on time. However, after some time, I received a letter saying that the rebate cannot be processed due to an "Invalid Purchase Price."

I spoke with their rebate center and a customer service representative said that since I had paid below their lowest price allowed (since I received a discount), I was not eligible for the rebate.

The circuit city rebate policy states that the rebate can not be processed if the item is on a promotional offer. My problem with this is that they never state what a promotional offer is. The discounted price that they received is regarded as a promotional offer but I do not know why it is regarded as one. They should clearly state what possible promotional offers are or what the term means.

Furthermore, they have now implemented a system where they automatically deny rebates if the purchase price is below a certain monetary value. However, they do not tell the consumer what that value is.

In my opinion, it is unfair for them to advertise for rebates and deny them if someone gets a discount, such as a pricematch, which is not mentioned anywhere in their rebate policy. I have posted on many forums and many others have been denied their rebates on this matter as well.

I am asking for compensation in the form of a check worth $10.00.

you forgot to add that its the rebate company that gets the money, not the store that sold it. only way the seller company gets the money is if its a rebate from the store itself

Rebates

AUTHOR: Tony - (U.S.A.)

The sad truth is, rebates in general are offered INSTEAD of a discount at the time of purchase because they offer the company or buisness presenting them the opportunity to "keep that money in their pocket".

Statistics show a large percentage of people never send the rebate forms in. CHA-CHING, company gets to keep the money.
Forms that ARE sent in are very closely scrutinized for ANY little "I" not dotted or any "T" not crossed so they may deny the rebate.

The foundational premise of "rebates" are similar to that of "insurance policies".

Both are perfectly legal and proper, and the vast majority are perfectly legitimate. The thing is, "insurance claims adjusters look for any good reason to deny a claim, rebate proccessors look for any good reason to reject a rebate".

#3 UPDATE Employee

try this

AUTHOR: Larry - (U.S.A.)

Hi,

I am an employee of Circuit City and I had a customer come in the store a couple days ago with the same problem. I simpily had my CSA call the rebate center and take care of the matter.

After they spoke to my CSA they agreed to mail the check. So maybe you should try bringing a copy of the letter into your local Circuit City and see if they can take care of the problem.

Good luck!
