I was working at Circuit City, at West Oaks and the Store Director(Glenn) and Manger(Leo) made a contest to stop shrink ( stop theft ). They placed clipboards in certain areas where most likely shrink (theft) would occur and the contest entailed hourly signatures on the clipboard. The way the contest worked was that who ever signs the clipboard the most every hour will win a prize at the end of each week; this was actually an independent contest by the director. The reason I was terminated was because I clocked out at 6:31pm on April 30, 2008 (Tuesday) and I signed the clipboard at 7pm because I was still present after 7pm. I remained present because I didn't have a ride and I live on the other side of town, so I was there waiting on my ride and still helping customers while off the clock. The next day my schedule was switched by the Manager Leo, and I was requested to be present at 2pm. After my arrival I began immediately helping customers, and in the middle of my presentation the Manager Leo requeseted me to report to the Store Director's office. To my surprise I was approached by both Superiors with accusations questioning my character as well as my integrity. My Superiors stated "my integrity was my error and therefore my employment has been terminated." I was also informed by my Superiors that they didn't want to give me a chance. I believe this action taken against me was unfair and demeaning. I didnt deserve a harshe consequence such as being terminated for helping others while off the clock. Whatever happened to the idea of "going the extra mile" or "even doing whatever it takes to please our customers." In my opinion I was actually rendering free labor. I believe I deserve at the least another chance besides, the Superiors didn't state that one couldn't participate (sign) while off the clock!! I would really like to have my job back because I enjoyed helping customers and I was a natural at it!!!
