I should have known better after all the problems I've had with Circuit City in the past, but this past weekend I went ahead and purchased a television from them, an RCA 32" TV. After paying for it, the salesclerk checks the warehouse and GUESS WHAT? They're completely sold out of the model I wanted.

"No problem," he says. "We'll just order it and it will come in our shipment on Wednesday."

"Are you SURE it will be here Wednesday?" I asked him.

He assured me it would be. They get the shipments in from the distribution center on Wednesday and I could pick it up after 12 noon.

Today's Wednesday. I called the store and sat on hold for nine minutes before a clerk came on and told me that my television didn't come in. So I asked to speak to a manager.

Five minutes later I got a manager who said that the distribution center was completely out of the model television I wanted and didn't know when they would be getting any more in.

I asked what he could do for me. He offered me a Panasonic television for the same price. After doing extensive research on televisions for the last month, I had decided that I wanted an RCA and nothing else. That's why I purchased it in the first place. I asked if he had any 36" RCAs in stock and he said he had plenty of them. I told him that maybe he should offer me one of those 36" TVs for the same price as a 32" TV because his salespeople willfully took my money for a television that they knew they didn't have and knew they wouldn't be getting for a long while. He assured me that he could not up me to the next level, he'd lose his job for that. But he reiterated that I could have the Panasonic for the same price as the RCA. Which is just a good television as the RCA ... minus all the features that I wanted in the RCA.

I told him I'd get back with him on that.

I called Sears. They not only have the model I want but they have it in stock and they will match Circuit City's price to the penny. They are holding a television for me as I type this.

I am tired of Circuit City's lethargic attitudes toward its customers. I am tired of them busting their butts to make the sale and then not caring once the money's safely tucked inside the cash register.

And I am very tired of them jerking me around on everything I've ever bought from them.

I have finally learned my lesson.

It's not just Circuit City...

AUTHOR: Jonas - (U.S.A.)

So "The customer is always right..." The statement has to have been made by a customer. I've been in retail for nearly a decade. I've been a manager at Best Buy and am currently at Circuit City, and guess what? The issues these customers are complaining about are EVERYWHERE! The number of times I heard how horrible Best Buy was and that a customer was going to circuit city because we wouldnt do our $500 installation for free for the customer because they bought a $1500 TV... let's see if we can make this clear for you wonderful people.

A) Would you walk up to a lawyer, ask him/her for advice on what to do in your divorce (those are fairly common), get them to draw up all the documents necessary, and then not pay them? No. B) When your vehicle breaks down and you take it into a service center, do you expect the repairs to be free? No. Then why do you disrespect electronics sales personnel by insenuating that their knowledge isn't worth you paying for?

If you are promised something, yes, you should receive it. But... we're not perfect. We can't make the TVs in the back of the store to fill and order. Upgrade TV, different brand... whatever the case may be, Circuit City tried to offer a solution. So you got mad, asked for a refund, and went to buy it elsewhere. So you got a manager involved, asked him to do something you would never do if it was your business, and then got mad and bought the TV somewhere else. End result: you have the TV you wanted. Congratulations. All that commotion and anger which got you what? A refund and the same TV? Wow... seems like you got worked up for nothing.

Listen, I know life is simply about you and your world. You couldn't care less about anyone else, especially someone you're buying electronics from, but take it from someone that cares about his employees and his customers: if you are respectful and considerate, so are we. I promise you, the louder and more belligerent you get in a store, the less the managers are willing to work with you, no matter what company it is. Calm down, breathe, watch your RCA, and enjoy life. It's not that complicated... it's just a TV.

As for loading the TV. All I can say is this... if that TV reached your house and was damaged and you had taken it out of the box to get it in your car, why should Circuit City or any store you purchased it from take care of it? We shouldn't... but we do. We are trying to avoid you being mad about a broken product... TVs are packaged for a reason... to be shipped. If you are taking it in a vehicle, you're shipping it. If you do it incorrectly, you could damage your TV or your vehicle. You didn't... this time. But the number of times I've seen customers come back with broken TVs, computers, or ripped seats... and want the store to handle it.

Be considerate. Circuit City isn't trying to rip you off or scam you. It is a business that is trying to take care of customers and make a few dollars at the same time, but not by cheating anyone. Think before you speak... actually try to put yourself in the other person's position. I can understand all of the frustration. But remember, every company I've worked for has been customer focused and always will be. Customers just have to realize that not everything can be controled and companies have to work by the rules... they are there for a reason.

Here we go again.......

AUTHOR: Ben - (U.S.A.)

Typical Typical Typical......

No long winded post this time.....

Nice and simple......

Once again we see the typical Circuit City employees bashing a consumer again for their own failings.

Here we have a consumer that came in good faith to purchase a product from Circuit City. This consumer was then informed that it was not available and given a date which they would receive it. This date ended up being false. Sound familiar? This CONSUMER was PROMISED something they DIDNT RECEIVE.

Lets move on.....

Consumer is now upset (and with good reason). They make a post on a consumer site explaining how they were PROMISED SOMETHING and yet DIDNT RECIEVE it.

Shall we continue....or do most of you already know whats commming?....

You guessed it!! Now we have Circuit City employees with their panties all in a ruffle because this consumer DARED to EXPECT what CIRCUIT CITY PROMISED.

How dare they!! Those nasty consumers expecting Circuit City to stand by what it says! For shame!!!!! Bad'ol'consumers!

Do you Circuit City employees really expect reality to just ignore the fact that you make promises that you never keep? Who cares if this customer was rude or not. Who cares what make or brand of a certain product is better, and what they SHOULD have bought. The simple facts are......

CIRCUIT CITY MADE A PROMISE

CIRCUIT CITY DID NOT HONOR THAT PROMISE

How hard is that to grasp? If you cant do something, then DONT SAY YOU CAN. And certainly dont BITCH when someone calls you on your broken promises!

TVs

AUTHOR: OMeSSiaHo - (U.S.A.)

Mistakes happen all of the time. The computer could have listed an in transit but it could have been set aside or not even shipped. I cant believe someone old enough to buy a tv would be so niave. I waited 9 months for a guitar to come after I was told I would get it in a week. I didnt complain or get upset because there was nothing I could do.

Every store is going to be out of stock of something, its part of the business. There is no practical way to predict what people will buy. If it is a sale item get to the store earlier, its not hard. One of my biggest pet peeves is people not being able to understand why the $400 laptop is sold out four days after the sale started.

"When consumers purchase a product from a store they may have questions about it, such as how to program it, and if you don't want to answer those kinds of questions then get out of the retail store business and don't work for the public."

Thats so off base its laughable. Tell me why I should give free advice to a customer when we have services that can do it for them? You want your computer set up? Pay for it like everyone else. Its not fair to the customer who I dont help and its not fair to the customer who is waiting for me. Its retail, not tech support. You also have to understand the liability. If I tell a customer they can make their computer faster buy tweaking the registry and they bork it up who gets blaimed?

"I purchased a Sony 32" TV from Circuit City and when I got ready to load it into my car, the sales people refused to load it and told me I could not take MY TV until I came back with a truck."

The sales people refused because they are sales people not TV loading people. While their loading your TV someone is not getting helped or are stealing stuff. It creates issues if your car would have been damaged and they were just trying to avoid a problem. Now I will help an old lady carry her computer out but not before I make sure everyone in my department is helped. There are priorities and helping people is our main concern.

"Circuit City your customer service sucks and you need to teach your employees how to teach a less fortunate person how to program that VCR."

If it matters way more people then you think me and my coworkers are great. I try to use my knowlege to help every customer find the right product for their needs. Computers can be very confusing and I try to help out the "less fortunate" as best I can. That dosent involve teaching them how to use their product, thats what users manuals are 1-800 numbers are for. Its rude to expect us to take our time away from customers when you cant take the time to read a manual. I'll say to you what I say behind customers backs, Do you want me to wipe your a** for you to?

"My business goes to another store, or an online retailer."

Thats a good thing. I would be glad to avoid a person with an attitude like yours.

Circuit City is a NON-CUSTOMER friendly store

AUTHOR: Jason - (U.S.A.)

Many people I talk to about Circuit City have similar problems with the store, and seeing by the responses from the ex-employee and the current one, their respect and patience with customers is non-existent. When consumers purchase a product from a store they may have questions about it, such as how to program it, and if you don't want to answer those kinds of questions then get out of the retail store business and don't work for the public.

I completely disagree that Panasonic is better than RCA, I have owned a RCA TV and VCR and they have lasted for many years, until I decided to buy a new TV.

I purchased a Sony 32" TV from Circuit City and when I got ready to load it into my car, the sales people refused to load it and told me I could not take MY TV until I came back with a truck. First of all it's not of their business what I do with MY TV after I buy it, if I want to strap it on my hood that is none of their business. Regardless the kept my paid for TV and would not give it to me.

I came back the next day with my truck, loaded the TV in it and took it home. I got the help of a friend and we removed it from the box and loaded it into the car. It fit just fine and was not any danger to the TV or the Car. From that day I haven't purchased a thing from Circuit City.

My business goes to Best Buy, or an online retailer.

Circuit City your customer service sucks and you need to teach your employees how to teach a less fortunate person how to program that VCR.

I AGREE!!!

AUTHOR: MICHELE - (U.S.A.)

I AGREE WITH ARRON. I ALSO WORK AT CIRCUIT CITY AND YES IT IS FRUSTRATING FOR THE CUSTOMER AS WELL AS THE EMPLOYEE TO DISCOVER THAT AN ITEM IS NOT IN STOCK WHEN THE COMPUTER SAYS IT IS.

HOWEVER....THE SALES PERSON DID NOT SELL IT "KNOWING" THAT IT WASN'T BACK THERE...GRANTED THEY SHOULD HAVE CALLED TO DO A STOCK CHECK, BUT MAYBE HE WAS NEW...OR GOD FORBID...MAYBE HE WAS JUST HUMAN!!!!

CUSTOMERS COME IN SO MANY TIMES AND ACT LIKE IDIOTS AND EXPECT OUR UNDIVIDED ATTENTION TO THEIR PROBLEMS WITH PROGRAMMING THEIR VCRS, BUT WHEN A SALES PERSON DOES SOMETHING LESS THAN PERFECT ITS A SCAM! YOU COULD HAVE HAD YOU MONEY BACK RIGHT THEN AND THERE...OR YOU COULD HAVE BEEN SMART AND TAKEN THE PANASONIC.

BETTER TV HANDS DOWN....RCA IS CRAP 90% OF THE TIME...SCENIUM STUFF IS OK, BUT ANY 32 INCH TV YOU WERE GONNA BUY IS A PIECE OF JUNK....I KNOW, I GET ALL THE CALLS ABOUT "I HAVE AN RCA TV AND ITS ONLY 5 MONTHS OLD AND IT STOPPED WORKING, WHAT R U GOING TO DO FOR ME????" ANSWER: GIVE YOU SOME ADVICE ON WHAT NOT TO BUY!!!!

AND AS ARRON SAID, CONSUMER REPORTS HAS MADE SOME PRETTY STUPID REVIEWS ON THINGS...PRODUCTS THAT HAVE HIGH REPAIR RATES, LOW PICTURE QUALITY ETC....EVER THINK THEY MIGHT GET PAID TO WRITE STUFF....OR AGAIN THAT WHOLE HUMAN THING....MAYBE THEY WERE JUST WORNG....

CONSUMER REPORTS IS A GUIDE...REPEAT...GUIDE!!! PERHAPS THE SALES PEOPLE MIGHT JUST KNWO A LITTLE MORE ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE SELLING THAN YOU DO!! OR MAYBE I'M JUST LUCKY AND WORK WITH VERY KNOWLEGABLE COMPETANT PEOPLE THAT I CAN VOUCH FOR.

ALL IN ALL, HERE YET AGAIN IS ANOTHER COMPLAINER WITH WAY TOO MUCH TIME ON THEIR HANDS. YOU PROBABLY THINK THAT AMERICAN MADE CARS ARE BETTER THAN JAPANESE CARS TOO!!! (HOWEVER SAD BUT TRUE)

TRY RESEARCHING A LITTLE FURTHER

AUTHOR: AARON - (U.S.A.)

HAVING WORKED IN RETAIL ELECTRONIC'S FOR NEARLY SIX YEARS(GRANTED NOT A VERY LONG TIME, BUT WHEN I STARTED I WAS EIGHTEEN), I REALIZED LONG AGO THAT NOT EVERYTHING IN THIS WORLD WORKS EXACTLY THE WAY YOU'D LIKE IT TO.

FIRST OF ALL IF YOU HAD INDEED RESEARCHED THE PRODUCTS BEFORE YOU TRIED TO BUY ONE, YOU WOULD HAVE FOUND THAT NOT ONLY DOES PANASONIC MAKE A COMPARATIVE TELEVISION, BUT IN MY OPINION(AN EXPERIENCED AND EVEN "INSIDER" OPINION) A MUCH BETTER TELEVISION.

BEYOND THAT, I CAN UNDERSTAND FRUSTRATION, BUT UNDERSTAND THAT NOT MANY THINGS IN THIS WORLD ACTUALLY DO WORK "INSTANTLY".

NEXT TIME TRY HAVING THE SLIGHTEST AMOUNT OF PATIENCE IN HUMANITY(WHICH WOULD INCLUDE YOU AS WELL) AS WELL AS PRACTICING SOME INTELLIGENCE FOR CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF, "CONSUMER REPORT" DOES NOT HAVE ANY SORT OF TIE-IN TO DIETY, AND IS THEREFORE FALLIBLE.

BY THE WAY, MY EXPERIENCE COMES FROM NOT ONLY CIRCUIT CITY, BUT ALSO FROM RADIO SHACK(WHO HOLDS AN EXLUSIVE CONTRACT WITH YOUR BELOVED RCA) SO INSTEAD OF BLOWING SMOKE, I ACTUALLY DO HAVE A BASIS FOR JUDGEMENT.
