DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! Try and short sale. Meanwhile, keep your money and don't pay the mortgage or real estate taxes. Basically after close to 24 months, they gave me a modification. What it is, is just your defficient amount added to your principal. You retain same intrest rate as your original loan. So the monthly payment goes up. There is no tacking it to the end of the loan. So my house which had a bal of 248k plus 75k (over inflated; their bs lawyer & late fees) at my original 6.25%. The house is worth 200k (now much lower).
I asked them to at least reduce the IR to 4.25% and I would keep it, they said NO. So That was 10/2011. Since then I went through 2 buyers, that waited for over 9mos. And then a third buyer that tried to close within 30 days before my final court date. They just give the jerk around to the buyers too. Acting like there was an approved amount for the sale but then they made the buyers redo the paperwork, reappraise (of its not going to work), and redo basically everything from scratch.
Then put deadlines. Its stopped in March. My court date was on valentines day and I told them to screw themselves and the the judgement was made. So final bill is 145k (over inflated again) plus my original loan which they can sue me for. (what about my unapplied funds?, the money I did pay every now and then they asked me to in hopes for that fake mod? Gone, not a trace). Prepare to file a BK. You might as well because I was one of those with 740 paid everything else on time (even my mortgage mod amounts) but still it fell to 510.
No one will give you credit at that point. Why? cause you are missing payments on the home. Stop paying, and then go to court ask the judge to extentions for you stay in your house as long as possible, pocket your money (in cash). I did something stupid like leave and go into a rental thnking my house will short sale. I could have saved 10+ months of payments. I feel more relaxed now that this is behind me. Besides, if you are young you can buy another and better house.
Make sure to stay at this site and type in- SHAME SHAME BRIAN, and read Ripoff Report #555030 for further proof that there are lawyers in this country who are only interested in making money and they don't care if they destroy the lives of innocent people in order to make that money.

i have finally gave up on citimortgage im letting my house go after further investagations with a lawyer and myself i fell 2 months back because of the so call (loan mod) program well welcome to the life of having screwed up credit because of this if you want a loan mod dont do it it will kill ur credit as i found out i went from a 700 score to a 559 for being behind in the load mod program they want bad assets on the books add my house
