City Wide Heating and Cooling is the company our home warranty company, American Home Sheild, contacted to repair my HVAC unit. According to the invoice City Wide Heating and Cooling gave me, they replaced the electronic igniter and it came with a 30 day warranty. The invoice also says they provide 24 hour emergency service.


Apparently, they have never read their own material. Exactely 30 days after they supposedly replaced the part, my unit stopped working. I called them on Friday afternoon anxious to have them come and honor their warranty. I promptly got their voice mail, and left a detailed message fully expecting a return call and visit to repair my HVAC unit. Again, they have not read their own material. No return call.


On Monday, I contacted them again (remember, I had to call them again) only to be told that my warranty expired on Saturday. I explained that I had called on Friday when the warranty was still in effect. Too bad, I was told. Their employee then accused me of trying to get work done for free even though the part was still under warranty THE DAY I called. She was rude, agumentative and apparantly had never read her own marketing material.


Ok. Here comes the best part. I called a different local company to come and repair the unit. I met with the service technician and explained the work that I had done previously by City Wide Heating and Cooling, which included REPLACING the igniter. After inspecting the unit, he informed me that the igniter HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED, it was original equipment. He was able to get it to work by simply shaking the wires attached to it. City Wide Heating and Cooling did not replace the part they charged me for! Since they were sent by American Home Sheild, they are also ripping them off!


Needless to say, use City Wide Heating and Cooling at your own risk. I have also cancelled my home warranty with American Home Sheild since they were responsible for sending them to me. If they cannot screen their contractors any better than this, I will seek out their competition and see if they can.
