My credit card company called today to follow up on suspicious transactions. The internet company Classic Closeouts posted two unauthorized charges to my card. These were both yesterday. June 26, 2008, and they were for $69.99 each. I ordered something from this site once, eleven months ago (Aug 2007), and I have not been to their site since that time.
I have done alot of web searching today. I found out that this has happened to many, many people in this past week (mostly yesterday 6/26/08). It seems to be happening to people who ordered from this company between April 2007 and Dec 2007.
The Better Business Bureau has Classic Closeouts listed as an unsatisfactory rating. They have 192 complaints in the past 12 months. I found many more than that on the web today. This company does not answer its phones or its emails.
If this happens to you, please report it to the following 3 companies: IC3.gov and FTC.gov and the BBB in New York. The address for the BBB is www.newyork.bbb.org

I work for a Sheriff's Department in Missouri, just today August 4th, 2008 I took a fraud report with Classic Closeouts as the ACH debitor for $69.99. This transaction took place last month and a second ACH debit for the same amount today. However the second debit was from a company called Echostar which is a satelite provider, my victim has never had satelite! When I contacted the company they provide very little help as they had a name and address of a possible suspect however would not release the information. So now I will have to stall the investigation in order to apply for a subpoeana which could take several weeks to get the information back. If you ever wonder who actually henders an investigation here's a good example.

Within 48 hours of filing a complaint at Truste (about the classic closeouts ripoff), my credit account has been credited the full amount by classic closeouts (TWO unauthorized charges of $69.99 each). If you have been a victim of this scam , file right away. You can find a link to truste at the classic closeout site. Looks like they have pull!!
