Received a mailer coupon with a heading titled "Carpet & Ventilation Cleaning" from a company called Clean USA with a toll-free number listed and no address.

I called to inquire about the service, the dispatcher scheduled an appointment to have someone come by and give an estimate and further explain what the service entails.

The company individual came by and explained that there were dust mites, mold, and other harmful allergens in our HVAC ductwork that can cause severe allergys and health problems.

He gave an initial estimate of $450.00, I explained that was too much and that all I could afford was $250.00, he made a phone call to what seemed to be his manager, explained what I was willing to pay, and his manager gave him approval to accept the job for $275.00.

The individual removed all the duct vents (located on the ceiling), proceeded to vacuum and apply some mist (supposedly to kill mold) and proceeded to put the vents back on.

We realized 5 months later that he did not put any of the vents back on properly and in most of the vents only fastened one screw, leaving the vents hanging down, and now allowing insulation to enter our home from the attic through the ceiling vent openings.

In one of the vents (metal weighing approx. 2 lbs.), he did not fasten any of the screws, simply placed it up in the vent hole and forced the screws into the screw holes, which later ended up falling out of the ceiling onto the floor next to our child playing, almost hitting her in the head.

After this happened, I went around to examine all of the vents and noticed that he only secured on screw into all of the vents and stripped out most of the screw holes causing even more damage which costs more money to have fixed.

I called the company and spoke to Larry Deguzman, the Service Manager explaining what had happened and he quickly told me that they are new owners and that there was nothing he could do and that I would need to contact an attorney and file a suit if I expected anything to be done. He had a very arrogant, non-caring attitude and did not offer any suggestions or solutions.

This is definitely a fly-by-night company and I would caution anybody that is considering using them to go with another more reputable company that stands behind the quality and commitment of their work especially when you are talking about spending between $250.00 to $500.00 a pop not including the further damager expense they ended up costing me.

The owners name is Tom Lepreste and they are based out of VA Beach and cover the Richmond, VA and VA Beach areas.
