Clear Credit ripoff, False and misleading advertising, Unknown withdrawls causing many bounced checks and fees Costa Mesa & Alisa Viejo California
On 4/3/03 we received emails welcoming us to Clear Credit and told us to contact them within 5 days to let them know what was needing disputed. I had not gotten to do so. Then on 4/9/03, we received emails stating that they had filed the disputes to the three credit bureaus and to look under "Review Disputed Items" on our accounts to see what they had disputed. There was mention of charges. I went and looked up the disputes, and they had disputed everything, but I felt no concern because nothing had been resolved.
On 4/23/03, I was checking on my bank account via the internet. I noticed a $79.50 charge on the memo activity, but it did not state what it was for. Further down the list, I found another charge of $79.50 from Clear Credit w/a 800#. I called and spoke to a representative. I asked what these charges were for. She told me I had not read the service agreement and that they charged the $7.95 just for sending the dispute, not for settling them. I asked her how we were suppose to know how much the charges were. They had not told us. She told me how to find the charges on my account. I had to go through 3-4 different screens to get to it. I would never had known that it was there by the way it was listed. I argued some time with her and finally said I was calling the Better Business Bureau. It took me about 15mins. to get ahold of the Bureau that serviced the area of California were the company was located. I tried to access my account to explain things to Bureau representative, and our accounts were already closed. The Bureau gave me the internet site to go to to put in a complaint.
I reread through the service agreement, that was accessible through Clear Credit's home page. It stated that they would not dispute accurate information, but most of the disputes were on accurate information. They never received verification from us what was accurate and what was not, but they went ahead and sent the disputes anyway.
My husband went to United and signed a paper stating the charges were unauthorized, and 2 days later we cancelled our check card and ordered a new one.
This money that was taken out of our account bounced caused our account to bounce.
All three credit bureaus sent us notice that credit repair agencies routinely and knowing dispute accurate information, so they did not respond to the disputes, but told us how to dispute inaccurate information ourselves for free.
This is the letter I sent to my bank to get our money refunded from Clear Credit. The bank had reimbursed us the money and went after Clear Credit. An associate from my bank sent me an email from MSNBC about how New York state was warning the people about Clear Credit.
Two days ago, I was again checking my bank account on line, and found a misc. debit for $151. (again bouncing our account). My husband went to the bank and they said that they could not get a refund from Clear Credit, so they had to take the money back out of our account. The papers we received today in the mail stated from our bank that Clear Credit sent them a contract that I had agreed to their services and they could not recover the money.
I read the contract that Clear Credit had sent the bank, and it is not the contract that I agreed to when I signed up. I will attempt to find the original terms and agreements and take it back to the bank along with about 25 other ripoff reports that were filed with this web sight.
If there is a class action Suit formed, I would like to be notified.
