I'm 16, and going into my Junior year at Colton Pierrepont Central School. I have attended this school since I started school, and have been outraged from the beginning. From having a corrupt Administration to faculty members who simple desire ten-year, and then say screw the kids, this school has been one hell of a ride.Lets start with the Administration. A man that has been part of our school for some time, Mr. Bregg is the current Superintendent (undeserving may I add.) He has shown no integrity whatsoever in his position, in ignoring important issues such as threats, educational needs of students and teachers, and basic necessities of the school body. His desire to sit on his a$$ all day and have affairs with secretaries and other members of the Administration, may be none of our business BUT in his case, I believe that it is. This man, is what we could call, "stuck up" obsessed with self desire and pleasure, and believes that people look up to him. I believe that the town of Colton and the Board of Education, (who I will add does a lot for our school, regardless of the Administration) should consider a change in Superintendents, due to his ability, or lack of, to run his school efficently. This man is arrogant, flipant, and precocious. He is an ignoramus when it comes to student request, as well as faculty/staff request. This man needs to be removed from his position.
Now I'll mention the teachers ar our school. With few exception, many teachers at our school, are unfair, undecided, and simply along for the ride for ten-year. Once their goal is achieved they become out of character, demeaning to other students and other faculty members. A few examples, first Mr. Manders. Mr. Manders is an Earthscience/chemistry teacher, who for the first six months isn't a bad teacher to get along with, and then he turns bad. He believes that his class is the ONLY class we should be studying for, and putting in an hour everynight for it, he obviously doesn't realize that most of us have 5 other classes in our daily schedule.
Speaking of teachers, how about our school and hiring them. Two teachers, Mr. Jacobs and Ms. Eells were both temporary substitutes for the remainder of the year, as we had lost one to pregnancy, and one to "forced resignment." These two teachers proved themselves EXTREMELY valuable, and our school failed to rehire them, Mr. Jacobs was offered another job at another school, for better benefits, better Administration, and better environment, he was also one of the best Math teachers I thought that we have had in a while. Although, I did not have the pleasure of having Ms. Eells as an English teacher, but I did know her, and knew that she was doing a good job. Once again, another mistake by Colton Pierrepont.
I will say however two extremely good moves that were made by our school were in the hiring of two teachers, Mr. Tompkins, and Mr. Sprow, over thirty years ago. These two teachers, Mr. Tompkins a math teacher, and Mr. Sprow a history teacher, have both been exemplary teachers throughout my highschool career. These teachers have dealt with the school for this many years, and should be congradulated for their efforts.
In conclusion, I would like to emphasize, that if you are in the area and considering schools, stay away from this one. Corrupt Administration, poor handlings of crisis's and major events, Superintendent who if was asked to stick his head up his a$$ any farther, he'd say sure....

I was a student there, and saw the progression of Martin Bregg from special education teacher to his current position. He was always a jerk to students (and me), and for the life of me I cannot not understand why in the world he is the superintendent. Yes, he did have affairs with teachers there before he was the superintendent. Sadly, none of them work their anymore. Wonder why??
Going to school at CSCS was HORRIBLE. There was no disipline or accountablity for students, and the students got away with murder. With the exception of Mr. Sprow and Mr. Lawall, most of the teachers were useless except for some good gossip (Ms Sharrow and the student, doesn't get better than that!).
They also put sports above academics, which again sucked but was damn entertaining (espically when parents would get into fights with parents on the other teams, classic!). To my shock, they completed a multi-million dollar addition to the district which includes a brand new gym. Now I understand that the school might either be merging with Potsdam or going under. Probably wasn't the best idea to invest all that money into the building with under 400 kids. It's probably for the best that the school go under, while Potsdam wasn't problem free they have a better school than Colton does.
I just want to correct the posters assertion that Mr. Tompkins was a good hire. He was not and here is why. IF you were a young, popular cute boy, he was a big fan of yours. Barring that, he would not give you the time of day. He would regular show students his "glow in the dark" underwear and get away with it. I went to pizza hut one night in Potsdam, and suprisingly he was there with a bunch of boys from my class! Apparently, he just "happened to be there". But what happened was that he had heard them talking about going and then was there when they showed up. He eventually was asked to leave, but only after the 100th time of doing something horrible. He is the sickest kind of individual and I hope he is in an environment where he does not teach kids.

i can't suggest anyone(s) off-hand, but i know a brief search on the web will yield results.
i've been where you all are at. sometimes things just get too emotional/fearful for those involved to make any kind of positive change. my suggestion to you all is to think about bringing in some experts. this sad business could offer the school/community a valuable learning experience - and hopefully bring everyone closer in the end.

I am a former CPCS student and currently have children in the school district. I can clearly remember the chalk-throwing, child molesting, town justice, history teacher slamming students up against the lockers! I can remember teachers who also were having affairs with their students...oh and then there was the PE teacher who kept a bottle of liquor in his desk drawer...only to be angry when some students took it! Of course I am sure that the administration will deny any of the allegations which are mentioned.
Then there is the guidance counselor, Jackie Pinover! What an overpaid joke she is! For years she has told students that they would never be anything, too stupid for college. She told half of my class that we'd never be anything, she has told female students who chose to join the military and defend the free country in which she doesn't mind enjoying, that 'females should not join the military, females in the military get raped, is that what you want, to get raped?' Oh...but CPCS makes sure she gets a raise every year when what she really needs is to get the axe! She makes, what, like $80,000/year? For what? Well, they don't want us to know for what...our news and notes that is sent to us used to break down the budget for us to understand where the money is being used, now puts everything in a category. This way it doesn't look like she (and others) is getting paid so much, it's for the department. HA!
As far the rebuttal from the employees of Colton which states 'YOU NEED TO ALL STOP BEING COWARDS AND GO TO A BOARD MEETING OUR GET THE COMMUNTITY TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS'...what about the current board member who is being brought up on legal charges in order to have her removed from the board for giving a crap! This is the blurb from the local radio stations website this morning...'COLTON-PIERREPONT SCHOOL BOARD MAY KICK CONTROVERSIAL MEMBER OFF--ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY NEWSPAPERS REPORTS TODAY THE BOARD OF EDUCATION PASSED A RESOLUTION TUESDAY TO HAVE LEGAL COUNSEL DEVELOP DOCUMENTS IN PREPARATION FOR EJECTING BOARD MEMBER PEGGY MOUSAW, A CONTROVERSIAL FIGURE OF LATE FOR HER QUESTIONING OF FINANCIAL PRACTICES. MOUSAW WAS THE ONLY BOARD MEMBER VOTING NO. IF MOUSAW WERE TO BE EJECTED, IT WOULD BE THE FIRST TIME A SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER IN ST. This shows you what happens in little Colton-Pierrepont when someone who cares tries to get involved. Peggy was elected by the voters of the school district to represent us and since she questions where our money is going and is concerned about issues with students etc...she is under fire by others who don't want those items brought to the publics attention! Where are our tax dollars going? Why is the capital project going above and beyond the dollar amount which was told to the voters in order to have us vote in favor? Of course when 2 of the 7 board members are in-laws and a third is one of their best friends...not much gets accomplished! I'm not saying they don't do anything, but why are the important topics bringing people to legal action? CPCS is more of a who's who among the small town...it's all a popularity contest. It needs to change, to become a school district in which we are proud to belong.
When I was in school we had sports and activities...most of which no longer exist. Where are the following that used to be there: cheerleading, marching band, volleyball, swimming lessons?? Where are the buses to take our children to their home games? We have a fabulous soccer field which is a few miles away, the buses have always taken us to and from there, but now, you find your own way! Just make sure you have school spirit though, oh and don't get into an accident when you are piling 6 of your friends/teammates into your car to travel there!
CPCS wonders why their student numbers are declining. How about offering students something? We pay enough in taxes and my kids don't benefit much from that. I am not opposed to tax hikes, I am opposed to wasting money! There are just under 400 kids in pre-k through 12...we have 2 principal's and a superintendent...why? Each of who has a secretary... I am not sure how Martin Bregg ever got the position he has...he was, like others mentioned, the special education teacher and suddenly he is superintendent?! There are way too many 'administrative staff' there, all overpaid. Colton school needs to clean house! Get rid of the
unnecessary staff and get/keep ones who really are there for the kids!
When I was a student at CPCS, there were more kids and 2 principals, that's it. Sure there were problems but it has gotten out of control!! I would love to help out and try to make a difference, but obviously becoming a member of the board is ok as long as you agree with everything and become a ?yes sir' kind of person...I just don't fit into that category! The PTA really doesn't touch on too many of these issues. Does anyone out there have any ideas on how to go about making a change without having to spend a fortune in lawyers?? I already pay enough in taxes!!!!

After reading the string of posts, from people in this community, it is apparent to me that now is the time to approach the school board to discuss the situation. I do not believe there should be compromises, but from what I have read, there needs to be committments made by the staff and the Board of Education. If these are elected officials, as they are in other communities, your vote is your ace and I am sure they know this.
I am curious if the community newspapers have run articles or editorials on this subject. If so, would someone out there post a note indicating this as well as the name of the newspaper. I would like to read some of the items and obtain a sense of where the reporting media lies on this subject.
Many people criticize the social implications of this but on the contrary,my daughter is very outgoing and talkative and happy to not be in an environment where she may be harmed. She has many friends, she is being taught music (my brother is in a local "metal" band) and is being taught how to defend herself with martial arts (my brother is also teaching her this).
I take on the academic teaching--reading, writing, math, science, social studies and health. We have a program here that is called e-school which is the Wichita public school system on-line. We have bookwork, of course,but she takes tests on-line and goes in for evaluations at the e-school building to assess her knowledge and progress. The beauty of this is that you only need a high school diploma or g.e.d to homeschool and if you are a night owl like I am and your child may be a night owl too, you can homeschool day or night or you can work it around your work schedule.
The drawbacks are:we have to homeschool at least 6 hours a day but you can even taylor that as well.We homeschool 6 days a week,we work through christmas vacation.We choose our own holidays off---We began second grade year on Aug.13th.She'll be done with second grade in the second week of March--That all means shorter school days and a longer summer. We as a household are by no means wealthy--My mom (49), myself (24) and my brother(20) bring in about $25,000-$30,000 a year and we get by--We are all fed well, have cable, and barely any debt-We have good christmas's and birthday's,we go to museum's---we have fun.
This is just merely a suggestion-You as parents can put corrupt teachers out of practice by taking away the jobs that they care nothing about. Parents should be the best teachers and set the best examples. You may not be happy about not having much free time by yourself but in the long run, you have the knowledge and opportunity to shape a possible future leader.
Don't pay a person who doesn't care about your child's future. Use it as a bonding time to see their(the child's) world---It will make you feel young by going to amusement parks, museums, libraries. It may seem far-fetched but try it... You may like it. Sorry about being so long-winded--This is something I am adamant about and it is an option...Thank You;}

own in this school I too have a few comments of
my own.
One major concern of mine is the way that Martin
Bregg and the Board of Education are spending the
taxpayers monies. The school is overstaffed and
mostly with relatives. We have approximately 400
students and the Superintendent is also supposed to act as the elementary principal. Martin and the Board have changed this and we are now having an elementary principal as well as a Business Manager to handle the money. We have a high school principal also. So I am not sure exactly what Martin is doing.
Some people on the board of education sit on it only to get their relatives jobs and make sure they get REALLY GOOD raises and everything for their children.
Most of the teachers are overpaid and underworked. They do not care about the children - only the paycheck.
In response to Vickie Bush being rehired at the school- I heard her and Martin were married this summer. Congratulations Martin and Vicky on your marriage and Vickie your new position if you get it.
The elementary school is a mess. Their discipline
procedures are a joke. A number of elementary teachers need to go somewhere to learn to deal with parents and students. One child was segregated from the rest of his class and was harrassed so by an elementary teacher parents had to have the child removed from the room.
This teacher also told a parent at a teacher conference hat all the girls in the class were little whores. I feel this is totally unacceptable. There are several rude and
harrassing teachers that need to be observed and reprimanded nd driven out of the school! One poor kindergartner several years ago was made clean the floor with ajax.
My high school student feels the school lunches are not fit to serve to our dog. Enough of the HAM BUBBLY!!
The cafeteria monitors are miserable to the children. If the children are not behaving - they turn the lights out and make them put their heads on the table.
Instead of hiring tutors for children who need help to just pass a course - we hire them for the "Name" kids who would like better grades.
I have been turned down over and over regarding field trips. Only to find out certain parents go every time. A school in a neighboring district takes two buses and as many parents as will volunteer. Maybe we should spend a little of our money for that!!
I am afraid that Mr. Bregg and the Board of Education are going to have this school in financial ruins. We need a boss up there so the teachers realize they DO have one.

because mother works at school and father on board), hearing impaired bus drivers, student drug cover ups because of their names, trooper being let in to the school to questions kids about unrelated school crimes with no parents present.........
I have a list of many more. And I have been to school about all these things but it all falls on deaf ears.
The teachers run our school because Martin only has a background in Special Ed. Why did Martin leave his previous position after nine months in Morristown?
WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! I DROVE MYSELF CRAZY TRYING TO GET JUSTICE IN THIS SCHOOL FOR MY CHILDREN AND LOST EVERY TIME.
p.s. Thank goodness the motor cycle riding principal is gone.
I know for fact, once your mouth is opened your child's name will be dirt in that school, never in all my years of living here have I seen teachers at colton that really cared and the ones that did "they left" because they were ousted by the rest of the faculty... this isn't a game to any of the parents that need to deal with this school, it's a fact of life.

I think something needs to be done and I will try to help find an end to this we need to see what is going on at our little old colton-pierrpont central school where are we going wrong maybe we need to force a few others to early retirement? get rid of the rif raf. I will be speaking to a lot of parents, friends, students, about these issues and I will dig deep into these issues I am really concerned about this and for the future and safty of the students ..we need to act and right now!
I occationally go to the school to pay taxes, ball games, drop off things for my grandchildren, pick them up when they are ill. I see kids wandering the halls all the time no matter what time of day I go into the school, we never did this.
Who is watching them? It is like going into motor vehicles; people going this way that way, kids useing profanity in the main lobby, who is watching them? Who is responsible? I think the tax payers and parents better wake up and see what is going on down there, is that why the younger generation has no respect? Is that what they are taught in this school? I guess I belive all of this has alot of truth to it and I think we need to do something about these issues right now. I will contact the state department of education and I will file a report and demand that all of these issues be investigated. This is so wrong; lets make it right.

lets begin with how much of the first report is true from the teen about our school; oh about 95% very well done i give he/she credit for finally speaking out. I will tell everyone about this site so the school cannot hide this little sound off like they cover up everything else.
Let me tell you about a few things I have had the pleasures of knowing about the school from down under. First let me start with Martin Bregg: he started as a special education teacher I do belive working with handicap childern, he did a great job, students liked him he was kind, nice.
Well what happend? he leaves his job for a so called other position at another school and maybe fails. They wont tell you that though. He comes back to good old colton school and damn, he is the superintendent. Not to mention he was haveing an affair with Vickie Bush an aid at Colton school back before he was superintendent; and gee i heard threw the grape vine she was going to be an employee at good old colton school again.
Will someone else apply for this position who well deserves it and she walks back into 20,000 to 50,000 grand a year? Its okay for them to leave and come back right; they come back with a better paying job what the heck why not they are special i guess. No one else can do that though you are no good if you do it. Maybe we rehired him because of his past with dealing in special ed; for the fact we all must be idiots to let this bull go on.
The teachers are 50/50; some good, some bad here is a short overveiw of what goes on at our honest little school. First the disapline plan is a f@#$%^g joke. There is none as far as I see. Oh I mean one day its don't do this the next you can. Lets talk about it or write it on a blue form, maybe white what happen to contacting the parents? THEY DONT WANT TO DEAL WITH THE PARENT.
They dont want them to know the dirt they pull and no kid is going to tell on themself right; and they know it.
My son has been in; inschool suspention a few times and guess what I was never told about this untill months later he told me or I drop by the school to drop off something and saw him setting in the office and questioned why he was there and found out he has been there all week, and never would of known about it if I hadn't stopped in unannouced.
Then I like how you are asked to go on your son/daughters feild trips and the reply is oh sorry a parent with a better name "board members, teachers, staff's grandkids parents" get picked instead; isn't that funny. Name Game.
Have you looked at the tackometers in the buses lately? I bet you couldn't see them if you asked. For example my son plays several sports and on more than one occation he has told me about the bus drivers traveling at speeds of 60 to 65 mph. The warning red light on the tack is on all the way who is responsible for this? Who looks at them daily and just files them away?
Lyndon Snyder maybe doing the job he is not suppose to? Ask to see his last school years tacks. Maybe this should be investigated and looked in too. Is your child or childern on this bus? What would you do if you got a phone call telling you your child was injured or dead when someone all along is aware of this happening.
Check into It, I bet you're told they are personal school records, but you know what? Get an attorney or call the state department if they don't let you.
When do we drug test the teachers,staff,ect... The art teacher goes on rampages and throws stuff around the room out of anger. What does this teach our childern? The high school Principal tells kids beat some other student up just don't let me see it.
She also has made the comment to several parents when they had problems with so called bad students "I only have to deal with them 2 more years, 4 more years, ect..." They will graduate then. is that the role modle you want for your children? "Beat them up i cain't stand them either!"
Well I will think of other things to add to this and I will be back again and I hope that this will wake up this community and things can be changed so that we can get our values and pride back in our school and weed out the so call educated fools that are trying to run and destroy the school. What about the many people who worked hard to get our school where it was like Thomas's, Gotham's, Hennessey's, Rexford's ect... you know who you are good people.
You made our school so bring it back to us so our children can learn fair and right. Don't let these idiots running are school now ruin our kids! Get a new addministration we need it! Get someone who cares and will pay attention to what is going on and wont be afraid of the employees.

Most of the school systems, especially in the rural districts that are prevalent in this part of the state, get hung up on their own pasts and do not think that others outside the status quo can succeed as well as those within it. I was told by my guidance counselor at this school that I was not 'quite bright enough for college, and that maybe I should get married and have babies'. I took his advice and did not fulfill my dreams of being an educator until I had been out on my own for 16 years. This is a disservice. All students, regardless of background, deserve to see their dreams and potential reached. At the very least, need to have the opportunity afforded to only a chosen few in these rural districts.
With all of the pressures from the State Education Department for ALL students succeeding, this child in their admitted frustration, should be applauded, not reprimanded. The parents need to look at this child and his or her complaints in a reasonable light. As the adage goes, where there is smoke, there is fire, and the feeling of slight that is felt now will indeed manifest later in life in some form. The administration and guidance counselor at CPCS need to take these concerns seriously and not cut short the possible potential that is waiting to be discovered at their school because of the lack of the proper family name.
I hope that this report from this child is an impetus to change that can aid in the future success of all students and that the school system will no longer have the control of a chosen few to determine the futures of those with no advocate to fight for them.
I applaude you, student, and to be a true change agent, do not let others change your mind.

Dear Jackie;
We have carefully reviewed the Rip-off Report in question, as per your request. We feel that report was truthful, very sincere, informative, and well-written. In our opinion, we also believe that the information contained therein will eventually help to make some sort of change for the better in that school district, and that is what Rip-off Report.com is all about; changing the world for the better by way of exposure through Rip-off Reports.
In addition, we also feel that your concerns are misguided. Instead of asking for the report's removal, you should be getting together with friends and family in your community in an effort to correct the situation at hand. Your friend's daughter was brave enough to bring this injustice out into the open, and you need to stand by her; not get her to make some ridiculous retraction! You should be proud that she has the guts, ability, and knowledge to attempt to correct what she feels is a major problem.
Think about it; if a newspaper were to do a story on something like this, the newspaper would apply pressure for the wrongs to be corrected. You should be ashamed of yourself for getting her to recant. Is that the lesson your friend wants to teach her daughter? This nation has a revolutionary heritage that has handed its torch from Thomas Jefferson to Abraham Lincoln to Martin Luther King, Jr., and that now needs brave young people like this very intelligent and mature 16-year-old to receive it.
You assert that there were false statements, go ahead, tell us what part of all this is untrue? It sounds like there have been threats made. Did Bregg make any threats? Don't worry about him! We can take care of him. We want him to come clean and apologize to this young lady and her parents on our website, or the truth of these allegations will be published. Let me tell you something that Bregg may not have told you; the truth is the perfect defense. I am sure that he has threatened lawsuit, right? Don't worry, he would be put on trial to prove his innocence. We are also letting certain of his associates/paramours know that there are heavy penalties for the subornation of perjury and the cooperation with such.
Either way, in accordance with our strict policies, once they are accepted, Rip-off Reports are never EVER removed for ANY reason, no matter what the situation... only updated.
