Found this Comfort Inn over the Choicehotels on the internet. Asked for a QUIET,PEACEFUL location in the hotel. We were told that they could book us a NICE, QUIET ROOM with a VIEW of the western North Carolina mountains.

We check-in at four-thirty in the afternoon of June 26th and go to see our room. It's beautiful VIEW is of the parking lot and semi trucks. It was located on the second floor across from the stairwell that had a slamming door from hell. We listened to this for three hours and started thinking we has made a mistake and then out in the parking lot cars, vans painted with slogans of a Little League baseball team come pouring in. It seemed to be dozens and dozens of boys and a few adults checked in. Then the noise above our bed started. The sound of at least two or three boys jumping from bed to bed, this went on for two hours.

My wife wanted to check our e-mail, so I go to the front desk and ask if there would be a charge to log onto AOL. The clerk said certainly not. I proceeded to log onto AOL and my wife checked the e-mail. I tried to convince her that things would quiet down, but only got worst. I went to the Manager that was a dark skinned Indian from India and told him we wished to check out and he came to our room and said he needed to investigate the noise. I told him that I was not mentally challenged and knew what a bunch of rowdy kids sounded like, none the less he wanted to come in my room and I feel just to get a peek at my wife. He then stated he would REFUND US IN FULL!!!!

Went to front desk to check out and was billed for one half a days rate. We were billed THIRTY-ONE DOLLARS FOR INTERNET ACCESS!!!! I stated that it was a DAMN RIPOFF, he started saying repeatedly to stop cursing in front of children but not one child was present and further more I said DAMN RIPOFF only ONE time. Anyway I called him an thief over and over and left my wife to settle the bill before I lost my cool. And thats how we were RIPPED OFF BY COMFORT INN OF FRANKLIN NORTH CAROLINA.

I am a Manager at a Comfort Inn Hotel & wanted to add my opinion

Wow, is the first thing that came to my mind after reading this claim.

I manage a Comfort Inn Hotel and have done so for approx. 4 years. I am a Caucasian American (not that it matters) but the hotel I manage is Indian owned. The comment made about Indians and Asians owning hotels is true, as far as the numbers.....far more hotels are indian owned than american owned, but that should not come into play any what so ever. The indian that I work for worked his butt off to get to where he is today. Nothing was gave to him, he worked and saved for what he has.....

As far as customer service goes, I for one (of many others) will be much more generous and polite if a giest approaches me in a CALM manner. No one wants to be yelled and cursed at. It is the philisophy that the "guest is always right" but that is not true.......When you were having problems in your room and saw that it wasn't "calming" down, so to speak, you should have contacted the front desk immediately and let them know of the situation, and requested that your room be changed so that you were away from the sports team......(the majority of hotels will accomodate your needs, to make you happy) if they refused to change your room, that would be one thing, but to go down to the desk and start yelling and cursing, is another.

The more attitude someone shows, the less the person will get out of the situation....it is always a good idea to stay "civil" and express your concerns, in a friendly manner.

Was the charge you are speaking of for the internet usage or 1/2 of the days stay? Most Comfort Inns offer FREE internet, so therefore, if you were charged for the internet, you should file a dispute with your credit card comapny if you have already spoken to the manager and received no resolution. If you were charged that amount for 1/2 of the days stay, why did you not just ask to move rooms, instead of checking out?

I guess the purpose of me writing this is to let everyone know that kindness is a big deal, so to speak......you will get much furthur with the situation if you are nice about it and try to resolve it....

Dear Jim--learn NOT to be racist and maybe you'll get around better in life.

1) I doubt the manager wanted to look at the ugly whore I'm sure your wife is, no matter what race he may be/you assume him to be.

2) Unless you use a LOCAL number for your AOL, you're gonna be charged long distance. Of course, only stupid people use AOL so that's no surprise.

3) As for the "view" you were supposed to get, I'm sure you failed to notice the small print that says only SOME of the rooms have said view.

So get a life and get over it.

User Problem, not a Consumer Problem

Couple of comments for Jim before I address my topic:

1. If you wanted a good view of the mountains, either in Franklin or Dillsboro or Sylva, you should have stayed at a Bed and Breakfast or a Cabin.

2. The quality of your experience at the hotel is in no way tied in to the nationality of the owners. Most Indians, and other people of Mid East and Asian nationalites are very respectable, business savvy, but they don't take no sh*t, just like any native born American should.

Now to my topic:

Jim, did you bother to change your AOL dial up number? Franklin has a local AOL number, and it is YOUR responsibility to make sure that when you use your AOL service on dial up that YOU check the phone number to make sure that YOU don't encur long distance charges. If you weren't ignorant, and were an informed and knowledgable AOL and computer user, you would have avoided this whole problem about the long distance ...which is YOUR FAULT. The hotel offers FREE LOCAL CALLING, but this particular one does not offer FREE LONG DISATANCE. AOL has thousands of dial up numbers and even a 1-800 number that you can pay 10 cents a min to connect with.

See the error of your ways, and deal with circumstances as they are dealt to you.

An Outsider's Opinion

Dear Jim,

Although I was not present, I have my own two cents I'd like to share.

First, it is perfectly reasonable for the manager to request to go to your room and hear the noise for himself, so that he can be sure that YOU'RE not trying to rip him off of a room.

Second, with checking your e-mail, I'm assuming that since it charged you, you were using dial-up. When it comes to dial-up, especially AOL, there are disclaimers on the service that say you may be charged for a long distance call (in the event that you are not using a local number). If you merely wanted to log in to AOL and there was a 'buisiness center' or such located in the hotel, all you would have had to do was go and open up a browser, type in "http://www.aol.com" and logged in for absolutely free.

Thirdly, even if you were not staying the entire night, it is also perfectly reasonable that you would be charged for half a night. Especially considering that now they still have to change all the sheets and towels, vaccuum, ect, even if you didn't take a shower or sleep in one of the beds.

Wow, Jim!

Jim, let me tell you what you just did here. I know you won't take my advice for what it's worth, but if you do, I'm sure things will go much easier for you in life.

I first read your report a few days ago and agreed, by your account, that you had been done wrong. I had a suspicion, however, that you may have displayed an offensive attitude and that this could have been a big source of the hotel's unwillingness to satisfy you. Nonetheless, I felt as though you had been ripped off.

Since the last time I have visited this site someone posted a rebuttal, claiming to have witnessed the event and giving an account that confirmed my initial suspicions. As I read this rebuttal, I did so with a degree of skepticism, and felt that you may have had a good reason to act a little annoyed. I felt as though your report was still valid.

Then I read your responses. You have thoroughly discredited yourself and probably lost any shred of sympathy from your fellow readers. Long and short is this: you come off as a racist, arrogant hothead whon does not know how to handle his problems in a civilized manner.

Your told our rebuttalist that he or she went too far by pointing out a possible racist tinge in your report, and then proceeded to go on one of the most racist and xenophobic diatribes I have ever read. Your attitude towards the desk clerk's race completely discredits your account of what happened in that hotel lobby. You have convinced me that the rebuttalist's account is most likely far more accurate than your own.

See what happened here? You chose to deal with someone who gave a different account of what happened by calling them names and acting like a complete jackass, three times! Is this what you did at the hotel? I'll bet it was! I wouldn't want to help you either! In fact, I would want to make so sure that neither you, nor anyone who has any respect for what you say, ever came back to my hotel, that I would ensure that you left as dissatisfied as possible.

Here's a couple short and sweet lessons you can learn from this, but I'm sure that you won't:

1) Treat people the way you would like to be treated and they will usually do the same. Act like an asshole and people will treat you accordingly.

2) The only thing you accomplish by being a jerk is to give the people who don't want to hear what you have to say the right not to listen to you.

I would also suggest some anger management courses. You might want to enroll voluntarily before you are ordered to do so judicially.

Yes I did get angry and no I did not cuss nobody out lady,if thats what you call yourself. I posted an earlier post and called you a worst name but have yet to see it posted. So this time lets get something straight, now that I see how easy it is for some nosey person to comment about something and tell LIES,LIES AND MORE LIES!! First off you don't come onto this website to send a thank-you to a Comfort Inn for good service, further more if you bothered to read any of the posts you would see the complaints that Americans have against businesses including Comfort Inn owners who are of Indian "India" . What kind of person are you to take up for some Indian from India unless you are one,married one or WHAT!! You are so right to at least type out that you don't know nothing about nothing! You are just the kind of person who likes to be involved in other peoples business. When my wife came out of the motel I told her that I wanted to call the police and report this RIP-OFF and she proceeded to inform me that some man in the lobby was threatening to do so.

You idiots need to take your asses back to Georgia and stay there. I think I would have been arrested had I heard some gutless asshole say that in the presence of my wife. You ASSHOLES!! The room above us was OCCUPIED DUMBASS. You see people like you need a reality check, you are the type of people who screw up this nation by allowing the foreign people to populate our country so freely. This manager of the Comfort Inn, Franklin North Carolina was a very smooth thief, CROOK. He got my wife and I back downstairs and in the public eye and then proceeded to RIP US OFF, knowing that it would make anyone mad.

He also threw in the "Nobody is staying in the room above you' JUST TO MAKE HIMSELF APPEAR PROFESSIONAL" And he sure is a pro and pro con-man thief, and liarer and CROOK. So Mr.or Mrs. ASSHole in Woodstoke keep your asshole comments to yourself. You whining India lovers, why else would you take up for that CROOK? I can only hope you get your asses ripped a new one one day. And all of his this because I said "DAMNED RIP-OFF' in not the presence of one child. And who made you a ref ASSHOLE? This is in response to either or Mr. or Mrs. Virginia-- Woodstock Georgia. I am the person you speak of as being so angry in the lobby at the Comfort Inn in Franklin, North Carolina. What business other than being nosey do you have any business replying to my complaint? I bet your group did have a great stay at the Comfort Inn seeing how you took over the place on a Monday evening.

I don't remember talking to you about my reservations or my crappy room with the parentless children jumping on the bed,floor or whatever unchaparoned children do. I called the internet billing this and I will repeat this word for the last time QUOTE: " This thirty-one dollar charge for internet service is a DAMNED RIP-OFF!!!" Not to mention the MANAGER telling my wife and I in our room on the second floor that he would be glad to refund our full DEPOSIT ON THE ROOM. So listen buddy, maybe you folks down in Woodstock lay down for a RIP-OFF but just because you do doesn't mean I have to.

Where is your vivid description about my wife and how she pleasantly handed over a handful of money for NOTHING! So my being pissed off is no different than any other NORMAL AMERICAN WHO HATES TO SEE OUR RIGHTS TRAMPLED ON BY SOMEONE FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY WHO CAN RIP OFF AN AMERICAN CITIZEN AND THINK I HAVE TO LIKE IT!!@!!@ So lets listen to your language at the Little League games and see how different it is from mind. We were in the lobby!!

I was very surpised today to find this ripoff report! Here I am online, looking for a place to write a thank you letter to the Comfort Inn in Franklin, NC for a wonderful stay, and my search finds this! Our Little League team stayed at this hotel for several days at the same time as this guy. The night he decided to let the desk clerk have it we were having a meeting in the hotel breakfast area, a large room that adjoins the lobby.

Most of the children and parents were in this room and had been for quite some time that evening. We talked about the games, watched TV and ate there. We were not in our rooms very much at all. But never mind THAT, because the important thing here is this man treated the staff at this hotel very poorly. We heard the yelling right away from the breakfast area, and several parents went into the lobby to check it out, including one father who is a cop. This guy was cussing at the manager, calling him a crook, getting louder and louder, and the situation was getting worse by the minute.

The manager saw us all and told him to stop swearing in front of the children but the guy just got more belligerent. I don't know anything about the internet charges or anything, but I know the manager handled the situation very well, speaking with the man respectfully even though he was getting cussed out. I do not understand what the manager's color or country of origin has to do with anything, maybe this guy burns crosses on the weekend, I believe that God himself couldn't please this guy. I heard the manager tell the man he had been in the room till 10pm so he should pay half for the room, which I think is reasonable.

I think this guy just wanted to leave and used us being there as an excuse. We were barely even in our rooms, most of the time we were in the indoor pool! On the ground floor!! As for the manager checking the noise out, I would too if I was facing the possibility of having to call another room and tell them to quiet down. I would be REALLY sure that there was a noise problem and exactly where it was coming from, especially since the manager's main point during this whole conversation was that the room above the man was EMPTY! This hotel was great, the staff was great especially the manager. This guy is just mad he didn't get a free ride which is probably what he tries to get everywhere he goes.
