In 1996 My husband and I moved to Atlanta from NY to begin a new life. Not being very familiar with the area we decided to purchase a mobile home. Since we were already living in a crowded apartment with my aunt, her two kids and our two kids we needed to find a place quickly.
We found a mobile home in our price range at mobile home dealer in Marietta. The sale rep told us that our credit required a co-buyer in which my brother in law volunteered to be. The documentd were placed in front of us to sign but my husband's name nor mine appeared on the contract it was only my brother in law's.
Eager to make a sale the sales rep told us when we asked that it would only be for one year then the mortgage would be transferred to our name. My brother in law reluctantly but graciously signed and that's were the nightmare began. A year of on time payments passed so we called to change the name on the account but Green Tree as it was called at the time would not make the change.
They said we needed to apply and when we did they would not accept us although we were the ones living there and paying the note. Soon after that we were told that Green Tree was now Conseco and we tried again but to no avail. What Conseco had done however was to add my name to the account because I was the one mailing the check every month.
They assumed that since my brother in law and I had the same last name that I was his wife and that it was okay to just add my name. We have tried to sell the home but in the middle of a deal our contact at the company always seems to leave and no knowledge of our dealings exist. We now live somewhere else and don't pay for the mobile home so we get constant harassing calls. All day every hour they call and if I tell them that my brother in law does not live here they will call right back and hang up or speak profanities to me for hanging up.
All we wanted was the house in our name and to complete a sell when we found several buyers but Conseco was happy with having someone already on the hook and now my brother in law and my husbnd who were best friends barely speak unless to discuss the trailor. God Bless Conseco employees who screw people over thats trying to live because they will have to stand up on judgment day.

With many years of experience in general consumer, auto and mortgage finance, it seems that you have not been taken advantage of by Conseco but rather the original dealer.
This is a common sales tactic used by many dealers and is called a straw purchase and if known before the transaction is completed, is not tolerated by most lenders.
