I lost my job, and my credit card got racked up to about 300 dollars over the limit. They mailed me a settlement offer to pay off and close my credit card which i accepted. I made the first two payments on time. The third payment, I called the day before and informed them that I wouldn't be able to make it for a week. The representative told me they don't usually accept different dates for settlement offers, but because i had made my other two payments early, and regarding the circustances of me losing my job she would make an exception to pay it a week later, which I did. I went to the internet website to view my account to make sure everything was right, and it wasn't so I called them. I spoke to a manager and he told me there was no notes in my account that I had spoke to anyone about a different date for payment, and therefore I was trying to commit fraud!!!!!!! I told him it wasn't my fault his representative didn't put notes in my account. He said there was no way she would have offered me that option because they don't do that with settlement accounts. I told him, why would i put forth the effort to make my payments early and then just slough off the last one? When I have no job and no means to keep the card. He said the only thing i can tell you is this is all your fault, and your settlement offer is null and void. Therefore, I have to continue to accrue 30 dollar late payements, along with 25 dollar overlimit fees, until my card is completely paid off. This is a load of crap!!! They will try to screw you out of money and claim you dont call when you do!! DONT EVER GET A CREDIT CARD FROM CONTINENTAL FINANCE!!!!

Who are you?

AUTHOR: Miss Peabody - (United States of America)

Number one, I dont know who you are, but if you would have taken the time to read the 50 some odd OTHER similar reports about this company, you would realize there is a little more than he said she said going on here. I too firmly believe that it was completely my fault for getting behind on my credit card.

My fiance and I both got laid off at the same time and because i took the advice of the individual signing me up, I took advantage of their so called insurance. Which states that if I were to lose my job, there was protection and they would make my monthly payment.

I quickly took advantage of this because im trying to improve my credit. Well, surprise surprise after trying to set this up, i never received the paperwork, and accrued late fees anyway. So, I called them back. The representative the first time told me they sent it to the wrong address. I said what do you mean the wrong address, I only have one adress on file. She said your address isnt xxxx xxx xx xx? I said uh, no. Idont understand how this address mysteriously showed up in my account, I have never heard this address before, and I have been receiving my monthly statement, so its kinda funny i never received the paperwork your company said they would send. Oh, look at that, i accrued a late fee imagine that. Im sorry about that mam, I will send a packet to the correct address and you should receive it within 7 - 10 business days..

How many wanna take a bet on whether or not I received that packet? Not only did it not come in 7-10 business days, I never received it at all!! I waited two and a half weeks before calling back. The representative told me there was no record of the last girl i talked to, and didn't even apologize!! I asked her after asking to send it AGAIN, what's in this so-called insurance package anyway? Her response was i dont know, can i put you on hold? Then, she hung up on me!!!! I called back AGAIN, waited on hold for twenty mins, only for my phone call to be mysteriously disconnected again.

At this time, I was going to work, and didn't have time tocall again for the third time on the same day within the same hour. Two days later, i received the settlement offer in the mail.

The reason I was able to make the payments early, not that it is any of your business, is because my fiance was claiming unemployment at the time, but had exhausted it and is still in the process of applying for emergency compensation.

And no, I couldnt have magically come up with the money if the representative had told me no. In case you havent noticed, money doesn't grow on trees. Why would I implicate that the representative had agreed to let me make the payment late, after stating she said they don't normally do that? If she hadn't told me that, why would I go to the trouble to put it in my report?? DUH!! Before you decide to go around incrimimating people, you should take the time to think about the situation and what you write before you write it. All youre doing is giving me an even bigger chance than 50 some odd people have already had, to prove your company is fraudulant and in the business to take peoples money, not to help people who are trying to start over.

This company has awful representation, their customer service agents are rude and half of them dont know what they should know about the company and policies. I suggest a longer, more in depth training program.

If you are looking to get a credit card from this company, think twice!!! They will do everything they can to screw you if you even get behind once!!

RipOff?

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

Okay let's look at the situation.

You got a Credit Card and as part of those terms you agreed to pay back the money you borrowed.  There was nothing in the terms about only if you can, or when you choose to.  So you failed to fulfill that agreement.

You then were offered a settlement.  That settlement stated you needed to pay a set amount at set times.  Again there was nothing in that that said only if you can.  So by paying late on the 3rd time you failed to fulfill that agreement.

Let's see Miss Peabody 0 - CFC 2.

Now, let's look at your statement that said they agreed to let you pay late.  For arguments sake let's say that they said No right up front.  Would you have somehow "found" the money?  If so then why didn't you "find" the money to fulfill the agreement?  If you couldn't get the money together, then it would be nice if they let you pay late, but they are under no obligation to do that because of what is in writing from the settlement offer.  It could be very possible that you heard what you wanted to hear from the first person.  Because even in this report you stated that they said they don't do that.

What also does not make sense is if you were able to pay the first two early, why are you going to continue to accrue late fees?

What A Terrible Company

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

What a terrible, horrible company. How DARE they make an agreement and refuse to follow it. How DARE they agree to a SECOND contract and refuse to furfill the terms. What a horrible company. What should be done to them? Kind of sounds like the terms YOU agreed to and FAILED to live up to. Kind of sucks doesn't it.
