Spring 2008, I wanted to side my home and I stopped by Continental to research their product. I was told they sold 29' long siding. So with this information, I went home and figured out exactly how many pieces it would take to complete my house. I came up with 70 pieces of 29' siding. With this information, I returned to the store and got a quote on 70 pieces of 29' siding and all of the additional material I would need. I was tossed between three salesmen; Carl, Warren, and Glen, in a process that took almost two hours.

I repeatedly told the salesmen that I needed 70 pieces of siding and asked how much it costs per piece. Nobody could tell me how much it costed per piece, only per square. I made clear that I did not know how many "squares" my house needed, just that I needed 70 pieces. I was quoted a price of $2839.75 for 70 pieces and all the additional material I needed.

So I told them I would buy the material, and paid for it right then 9/03/08. After a couple of weeks, the siding arrived and with one look, I knew I did not have enough to do my house. I promptly called them to see what happened, I do not know the name of who I talked to, but he told me there was only 34 pieces ordered and that is what I paid for. So I went back to the store to see what happened. I was told that it was a mistake by one of the salesmen and that it was going to cost me an additional $2099.41. I was extremely suprised and unhappy about the additional cost! The only thing Jerry O'Neil, the owner, could say was "that's just too bad".

I asked if he could give me a discount on the additional cost, since it now was going to cost almost double of what I was quoted. He was not at all sorry or willing to help me in any way. I did not know what else to to but to go ahead and spend the extra $2099.41 to get the rest of what I needed to complete my home before winter. I paid this amount on 9/25/08.

This took a huge toll on my finances, one that we are still trying to crawl out from under. Beside that, the salesmen sold me the wrong size of j-channel with my original order. I was sold the 5/8" j-channel when I needed the 1.25" j-channel. This would not have been a big deal, but this is the first step in installing the siding. So, while I was waiting on the rest of the siding, I installed this on the whole house.

I tried to put the first piece of siding up and found out right away that the j-channel was wrong. So, I went back, for the fourth time and asked what size j-channel I needed and was told what I had was the wrong size. But I could not simply take it down because it was nailed to the house and mitered around all of the windows and doors. But all I got out of the salesman was a shrug of his shoulders and telling me it was the wrong size that he sold me. I was forced to make it work with the siding, but the result was a very poor appearance.

Receipts are impossible to read, I never once encountered a salesperson in seven trips to the store that knew their product, each time I tried to get replacement material, or material I was short of, the price would ALWAYS be different than what I purchased it for previously. I think everyone that goes to Continental needs to have a full understanding of the product and know exactly what they need, because NONE of the salesmen know. They only know how to pass blame to one another and how to take your money. Everyone needs to know what they are dealing with when ordering from Continental beore they are put in financial strain like I was.

#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company

Response to Jacksons of Raytown, MO

AUTHOR: Jerry - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 14, 2009

I truly regret the Jackson's feel they had unsatisfactory results from Continental Siding Supply. After 28 years of business, and over 40,000 satisfied customers, we obviously take great pride in customer satisfaction. As the confusion to the amount siding purchased and the amount delivered, we at Continental Siding Supply have a 100% refund policy on any siding or other product that is not custom made so the Jackson's could have returned the 35 pieces of siding for a full refund of their $2839.75 and purchased their siding elsewhere. It would then not have put a huge toll on their finances. I am personally not privileged to the conversation between the Jackson's and the salesperson but I can personally say that I have never said "too bad" to any customer. So whatever the confusion, I feel personally slandered as an individual and as a company. Being the owner, I don't feel that I should be listed in this ripoff report in any way.

The remedy would have been very simple, he could have asked for a refund for the siding or could have had us measure their home to install the material instead of trying to do it for himself. Mr Jackson seems to be an intelligent person and I would assume that if he truly felt he ordered 70 pieces of siding and only received 34 he would demand his money back, which he would have received.

Our knowledgeable sales staff has helped hundreds of do-it-yourself customers without issue.

Jerry O'Neal
