Please read this review because I SOLD THEM A CAR and that unique perspective will show a lot more about the character of the managers than that of a car buyer. I am writing this review trying to spread the word and dissuade you (the potential customer) from purchasing and/or doing business with Conyers Nissan (1420 Iris Dr, ConyersGA). A quick bit about me: I am 29 years old. I have an undergrad in business and I am working on an engineering degree. I am a Georgia homeowner. I have a fulltime career as a sales and service manager and I have been in customer service for all of my adult life. I am telling you this not because these credentials are impressive but because I know very well the difference between a customer complaint that is unfounded and a real complaint that requires the business to fix it.
I listed my second car for sale on Craigslist and Autotrader because my tuition expenses are getting too high. I received a text message asking to see the car. I called back and was I surprised to find it was a dealership, Conyers Nissan, that text me.
The representative is Don Cavit (not sure on the spelling). He gave me a price that I agreed with and I asked how it would work if I said yes. He told me that since it was late Friday I would sign the paper work. Then Monday they would call me and overnight the a check. I agreed and we did the paperwork. I did not get check Tuesday. On Wednesday, I called and left two messages for Don that were never returned. Thursday, I called incessantly. Finally at the end of the day I get a hold of Don. He told me that accounting had already left and that he would call me Friday.
Friday I do not get a call back—I started calling the dealer left messages again. I finally got in touch with Don, and he told me there was never a possibility that the check would have been mailed in Monday because they have to wait for the title and that will take 3-4 week. I am floor by this news because I had already paid my tuition in full for the semester. I was expecting the check that week, not 2-3 weeks later. I told him the deal that we agreed upon was a check the next business day and I would have never sold the car to them if I hadn’t been lied to about the time frame. He made no effort to deny what he told me he just moved me on to his boss.
Don’s boss was Bruce (I believe that was his name) and he used every salesman’s trick to try and convince me that it was everyone else’s fault but the dealer. He often told me things that were entirely untrue or that he had no idea about. At one point he told me the check hadn’t been cut. I knew was a lie because I had talked to the woman in accounting (Bobby), and she told me the check was cut and ready—she just needed the title or manager approval to mail it out. I tried to explain that the dealership made the error by lying about the time frame for the check and that I would not have sold the car if I had known about it. I further explained that I had paid my tuition in full and I would not be able to make my mortgage or pay my bills on time for the next month. He absolutely did not care and sent me on to the general manager Don Riley.
Don Riley didn’t try a bunch of tricks. We talked a few times. He said he would call me back each time. He actually did call me back one time, and he was completely apathetic towards the situation. He was standing to make a nice profit margin on the car and he didn’t care that I was lied to in order to close the deal. He offered no help, no compromise, nothing. I could not believe that his sales rep brazenly lied to a customer to close a deal and he (the general manager) wasn’t going to do a thing to make it right. He had the power of attorney over the car and he had the power just say yes and make the situation right, he chose not to. Saying yes, of course, comes at a minimal risk to the dealer of me delaying them if the title would be shipped to me instead of them for some inexplicable reason. The power of attorney over the car really minimizes their risk.
The entire time no one, top to bottom, denies that I was lied to; that part is not in dispute. The management is rotten from the top down. From the lack of returned calls to the complete disregard for honestly and the complete unwillingness to fix a huge error that they acknowledge they made. I will admit my financial situation is not the dealerships fault, but it seemed reasonable to assume that I could trust a business who already gotten what they want from me so I paid (out of my savings) for the semester. The simple fact is this: I let the car go cheap because if I had the money within a week I could attend classes seamlessly that semester. If they would have been honest with me from the beginning I would have politely declined the offer and taken a semester off and sold the car for full value.
My perspective with this dealer is unique and shows the true colors of the management. Businesses should not be allowed to get away with things like this. Check their BBB report! Do you really want these people to be the ones who handle your issues should they arise?
