I have read these reports not to many times but I have read them. Some of things are a little outrageous but some of them are true. I do fear retaliation from agents and the company so yes, I will stay anonymous. I have been with the company for 6 years and I have done very well with the company. I have been a top producing agent many times, I have won quit a few awards as well. So I look forward to hear agents come back at me for this. I am not an x agent and I am not an agent who just failed. I wrote 10K or more weekly, never blanked, six week average ranged from 10K-30K, I have had 15 appts weekly average.
Enough is enough and I will only speak facts from what I have witnessed. I do not believe in telling stories. All I can say is if you turn the other cheek, ignore the unethical things from corporate and other offices that are happening you will do great. I have seen to many people leave the company and some just have never been good at being self employed. Some never should have put up with the garbage that has happened.
I have seen a lot of unethical behavior from how agents are treated to how applications are handled and these have been brought to the attention of the company, Regionals it had always been hushed and the agent who opened up about it was terminated, moved to another office etc. These people doing all these bad things have been promoted, WHY. I am not saying all agents are bad in the company because I have befriended a lot of nice people who are true.
Do not get me wrong you can make the money with the company, I have a ring to prove it. I have just become sick to my stomach when I found out that a person who was terminated due to failing as a leader, forging, unethical behavior has been rehired by Cornerstone America knowing this man has done this and put back into a leadership position. This man even asked me to fix his applications and I said are you joking. I refused to do it, he turned around and did. It was immediately brought to the attention of the leaders and all I know the Divisional actually cared and wanted him terminated on the spot but corporate would not allow it. The paperwork was never turned in, I went out to fix it for this agent so it was done right. I was confused and just lost at that point. I kept doing my thing and producing. Leads have never been the greatest but they are just a name and a number. I always did other ways of marketing to succeed.
Cornerstone America has always been the all American company, that does nothing but help people with great benefits and great pay for agents. This apparently is really not the case. The company has shattered my dreams, not completely but I can not be part of something if the company knowingly allows unethical people to be rehired and promoted and unthical people just being promoted.
I would discourage anyone working for this company. I gave a lot of my family and life for this company and this is what has happened. So any of you agents, districts, divisionals, regionals anyone else want to respond. I have proof, again I only was talking about facts. This could go on but I think this is enough. I love being self employed and I did not fail the company, the company and leadership failed me.

I am a former employee of HealthMarkets in California. I was there for a period of 18 months. The managers and company reps were all very nice during my employment and they consistenetly reassured me that the MidWest/MEGA products I was selling were very comprehensive and reputable. They had well-crafted, pre-packaged responses to every concern that I relayed. Based upon the information they were feeding me, I sold these policies to clients in the area and developed some good realtionships with these same clients. Luckily, none of them every had any substantial issues with their policies but things kept nagging at me internally.
As time went on, despite the contentions of management there, I was doing more extensive research on the internet and some of the client experiences did not coincide with the information I was fed by the company. I made the decision to leave on good terms because I did could not, in good conscience, fully condone selling the insurance policies any longer.
Well over a year later, I recieved correspondence from HealthMarkets saying that I owe over $1,000 as a net debit account balance and also some additional 1099s for income during the 2010 year when I did not sell any policies or recieve any compensation whatsoever. Even the compensation that I did recieve during my time there was not significant enough to warrant this net debit balance. What makes matters worse, it was simply a one page letter that included the dollar figure on it with no supporting documentation of how the figure was calculated. There was contact infomation on the letter in the form of phone numbers and and an e-mail address. Nobody has responded to my repeated inquiries over the past 3 weeks. I no longer live in CA and both my e-mails and phone calls to my old managers have not been returned either.
I believe that I was duped by seemingly nice people and a company with shoddy business practices. I do not want to pay some arbitrary dollar figure to this company after being mislead and treated in such a fashion.
As an employee of the company yourself, do you have any advice on the best course of action to take? What happens if I just don't pay what they falsely claim that I owe?

Do not worry about that so called debt that Healthmarkets is trying to get you for. It is more often than not just written off. I was in a leadership position and saw it happen many times. I do believe this company is a scam and having inexperienced people come on board so they can drink the koolaid. THey do have bad plans and I saw from personal experience how bad it really was from my own personal use to my clients who were screwed. I am now with a reputable insurance company and love every minute and I do not feel guilty at all for helping my clients now. They are a fine example of a company who gives other insurance companies a bad name.

I have been reading these reports for a while. I was with HealthMarkets from 4/08 to 12/08. Not to say I was a big producer but I was in the top tier of my office week in and week out and always made their "Brag Rag". I decided to leave when I realized through my own experience that the plans were crap and they pay squat. My daughter was in the ER for 4 years, bill was $ 5,000 and they paid $ 200. I left for a reputable Life Insurance company and left my biz behind. Today I got a letter from these scum saying I owe them $6100 since my advances were paid and with their expert analysis my book of business wouldnt cover that amount. I have a choice to pay them $ 4800 in a lump sum or work out a payment plan. I guess when you " pay to work" for a company, you should expect it.
My advise to anybody else out there. If you see their email invitation to interview, RUN dont Walk away.

Oh Eddie, once I finally just got away from this company I really felt aweful, beyond aweful for the clients I had written. I did not know what to do and granted I was able to help some get away but I do not blame the ones who were angry with me. The clients claims do not get paid and if they do it is not what it should have been. The clients have to fight with customer service (if it should be called that) in order to fix issues etc. I will never bad mouth (unless it is fact) a company to a client, but I will be more than happy to help them understand why they do not want to go the Healthmarket direction. I know the producers end up being screwed but boy oh boy so are the clients.

The problem with your company is not so much how the company treats its producers as it is the sorry coverage your company offers. Your company has had to change its name several times and it goes under several different names , I assume to deceive the people. An extensive comparison of your best coverage to most carriers leaves yours wanting, at best!!

Thank you to the 2 rebuttals. I understand that the first one. Worthless Ring is upset with me for having looked the other way. You are right, I am now working on helping my clients get away from the products I have sold them. It sickens me that I was caught up in the money the life style, but no more. I can still have the money and life style without hurting people. I have gotten rid of my ring as well as all my other awards. Being rewarded for hurting people is not my thing.
As for the person asking for more information, sorry but I do not know if you are corporate or not, all I can tell you is this person (man, male) has 0 production and his team is not much further than that. Believe me or not, I know what I know, I just can not say where I am from. It may just give it away of who I am. I have opened my mouth with the leaders in this company about these unethical issues and all I got was threatened with my career and law suits for slander. I do not slander, I only speak facts. I will never get rid of the proof I have but I do not have the means to be able to go after a large company.
I have found out just recently that the leaders have always said all agents are covered by E-n-O insurance. Agents are not and never have been only corprate is covered and they will leave an agent out if one is sued. What a great American Company.

What state and who are you talking about? I can understand the fear of retaliation! It's hard to believe this especially after a $20 million lawsuit. If you've witnessed such acts, why didn't you report them? 6 years is a long time to "look the other way"! Forgery is cause for losing your insurance license. Why wasn't this district terminated? Was he/she a beer drinking buddy of "the good ole boys club"? Troy is gone. Please explain in more detail..... I'm having a hard time believing your story. Not saying that it couldn't happen, just want to know more. Help me to believe you....

To read what this piece of crap has written makes me so sick to my stomach. I worked for this so called company for 3 years and was a top producer as well, but when I realized what I was selling was crap, I got out. These people who work for this company are by far not professionals and are just rip off artists. Scum of the earth so to speak.
I worked out of the Raleigh, NC office which was at the time the best office in the country to work for. The products offered through this company are absolute garbage and I could care less what this guy says about being a top agent and having a ring to prove it. I have a ring too buddy, do I wear it, hell no. Did I put it in the trash, yes. Was it worth anything, NO!! I even went as far as taking it to a jewelry store and they practically laughed in my face and told me at most it was worth $20.
So buddy, keep ripping people off, turn your head the other way while management keeps on doing what they do. You better start looking for another job, because I know there's a huge huge lawsuit being pursued by over 15 ex-agents. Suing Cornerstone, MEGA, UICI, Health Markets, Mid-West National, Alliance for Affordable Services, and an abundance of managers. Good riddens to you. I hope someday you and your family are ripped off just like you do to people everyday. I really hope you get what you deserve, you selfish b******.
