                                                            Covenant Transport
In Late 2010, I sold a vehicle to someone who failed to register said vehicle in a timely manner. Because of this, the state of Florida suspended my Drivers license for 4 days.

From Feb 07 to Feb 09, 2011 I attended Orientation Class for employment with Covenant Transport in Chattanooga, TN.   After completing my application paperwork reporting the suspension to them, I was told that I needed to get a letter from the state of Florida stating that my license was never suspended, which of course is impossible. [continued below]....
.....

Covenant Transport  maintains a policy against hiring drivers who have had a suspension of their licenses within the last 12 months, which is fine for people who have had a license suspended for drunk driving, however my circumstances were a little different, and would have appreciated a chance to explain it to someone there. I was not given that chance and on the 9th of February, I was put on a Bus for home and told if I fax the letter to my recruiter within the next few days, I may return to training the following week.

Setting aside the total lack of warmth which one would hope to feel when joining a Family or Unified Organization, their total lack of Safety training during orientation was a surprise.

They get my nomination for Christian Wall of Shame, not because of their policy, but because they claim to be a Christian organization, however at no time during my three days there did I get a chance to explain the circumstances surrounding my suspension to them. I never even got to talk to anyone concerning the matter.

I don’t know what “Good Book” they read at Covenant Transport, but I’m pretty sure its Not the Bible.

Lessons Learned :  The only people who get anywhere in this world are people who lie and cheat. So lie as often as you can.

Steve is 100% right

Selling you car, and what the buyer did or did not do had nothing to do with a revocation of your license. When you cancel insurance on a car the tag registered to that car MUST be turned in before or the same day you cancel insurance.

If not the state assumes you still have the car and are now driving it WITHOUT insurance. MOREOVER the state will send you 2 letters requiring you to provide proof of valid car insurance or proof of the sale of the car on or before the date your insurance company reported the cancellation of your insurance if the tag HASNT been turned in BEFORE they suspend your license. They give you roughly 30 days to provide this BEFORE suspension. I know from first hand experience when I sold my first car.

Report Update

Upon further contemplation, I feel that I could have done more to be better prepared for my induction into this company. Getting paperwork from government agency's can be difficult if not impossible and I should have taken steps sooner to accomplish this. I only felt that I was not given a chance once there to explain the situation to Anyone.

Too often large company's tend to treat employees like a number instead of a person, and the trucking industry is no exception. I guess I expected better from covenant transport.

Doesn't work that way regarding license suspensions in FL

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it doesn't work that way!

Your license got suspended because you obviously had a tag out there somewhere and did not have insurance on the vehicle that the tag went to.

That is what really happened, as that is the only way they will suspend your license regarding the sale of a vehicle in Florida.

The tag stays with the owner here in FL, so if you let it go with the car when you sold it that was the problem that caused your license suspension.

You are required to surrender a tag immediately in Florida when you sell a vehicle or cancel insurance.

What the buyer does or does not do is totally irrelevent and has absolutely nothing to do with your license suspension.
