Integrity,honesty,respect. These are the Biblical principles that David Parker (CEO and President of Covenant Transport) claims to operate his business by. In Sept. of 2005 I was under a dispatch to make a local pick-up and delivery with a full size (72.5 feet long) commercial vehicle in N.Y.C. and ended up having an incident which may have cost me approx. $10,000 or more in fines. The first thing Covenant transport did was to absolve it self of all responsibility and left me out to hang (figuratively speaking). I was ordered into N.Y.C. under forced dispatch. Covenant made no mention of N.Y.C. D.O.T. regulations for commercial vehicles that exceed 55 feet or 53 foot trailers which are required to have permits entering and exiting their jurisdiction.

The N.Y.C. highway patrol officer told a member of Covenan't safety dept. that we were not supposed to be in there and Covenant's response was "Yes,we know that". After this incident,I made it a point to find out what exactly were the regulations were.

Covenant transport did on three more occasions attempt to get me to enter N.Y.C.
illegally and without the required permits and I refused citing N.Y.C. regulation.Twice they took the loads off me and gave these loads to drivers who knew nothing of these laws. The third time I refused, I was fired.

Covenant fired me but in a separation notice that Covenant sent me,they lied and said I quit. I filed a notice to Covenant about this and Covenant decided to change it to dismissed and sent another notice. I have in my possession a letter from Covenant's corporate attorney indicating that Covenant changed the reason for my separation a third time.

I have sent three letters (certified,return receipt requested) to Mr. David Parker personally and a number of e-mails to Covenant seeking my employment to be reinstated,but they have continually refused. Mr. David Parker has refused to reply to any letter or e-mail regarding this . I have also asked him under what biblical principle does it give his company the right to fire an employee for refusing to do something illegal. Mr. David Parker has not responded.

I applied for unemployment and was given it with out a fight as Covenant could not prove that I was fired for "company policy violation". After this I gave notice to U.S.I.S. (United States Investigative Services,the company that collects the information contained in the DAC report) that I was protesting Covenant determination for my dismissal and I wanted it removed. U.S.I.S. contacted Covenant regarding this and for a rebuttal and Covenant did not reply and the information on my DAC report was removed. I then sent an e-mail to Covenant Transport regarding Tennessee Dept. of Labor's decision on my unemployment benefits and U.S.I.S.'s determination and I notified them that I was going to hire an attorney and file a lawsuit against Covenant. It was then (after the fact) that Covenant made it's rebuttal to U.S.I. S. and the original determination for my dismissal was retained on my DAC report.

Covenant did in fact change the reason for my dismissal three different times. Mr. David Parker still refuses to address this issue,reinstate my employment,or reimburse me for this illegal dismissal. I have documentation to prove all of this. I have hand written letters addressed to Mr.Parker,copies of e-mails,a letter from the Tenn. Dept. of Labor,a letter from Covenant's corporate attorney,letters from U.S.I.S. proving all of this and more.

Integrity,honesty respect? None from Mr. David Parker,who claims to operate Covenant Transport by those biblical principles.

Covenant Transport has a legal obligation to notify a driver if any special permits are required when entering a jurisdiction such as NYC,Vermont,when coming off the national network. Covenant was fully aware of the regulations for commercial vehicles exceeding 55 feet or trucks with 48 or 53 foot trailers. The law is quite specific,plain and easy to understand. If I were told about this,permits would have been gotten. This issue is serious and has not gone away nor has it been forgotten. They company of your employ has had an opportunity to make this right but through Jon Huston ,it has refused. I am still in possession of those letters sent by Covenant changing the reason for my dismissal 4 times. Twice by their Personnel Dept.,once by their Security Dept.,and one by their corporate attorney,H.E. Seaton. I also still possess all letters that have been sent directly to David Parker,CEO,etc of Covenant Transport,and one to the Covenant Transportation Group all certified,return receipt requested regarding this matter as well as e-mails sent back and forth from Jon Huston and myself. At sometime in the near future,these will be used and Covenant won't like it. The law for commercial vehicles in NYC/Vermont is the law and compliance is not at their discretion. 

As for you:you need to speak with Jon Huston asap and tell him what you did and what you said. Apologies,are unacceptable. This is an extremely serious issue and if you want to involve yourself on Covenant's behalf,fine,however that would be a very poor choice to make....

All I'm wondering is why didn't u call permits and get them to fax u a copy of the permit so u could go back in there? This story doesn't make much since to me. Ive been there a little over 10 years and nothing like that has happened to me.

As of my original posting until now (approx 6 years),David Parker,whom is CEO,President,Chairman,Owner,of Covenant Transport has not made this right nor contacted me about being fired for refusing to intentionally violate known laws by Covenant Transportation,it's Safety Dept,Dispatch and Permit Dept.,for combination commercial vehicles exceeding 55' in length or with 53' trailers entering N.Y.C by his company. Apparently he his neither committed to the "Biblical principles of integrity,honesty,and respect" that he has personally claimed to operate Covenant by nor this new company motto of 'I C.A.R.E.' , put in place to replace those Biblical principles.

File a complaint with the EEOC, 50 Vantage Way Suite 202, Nashville, TN 37228-1526. you have 180 to 300 days to do so and it will be investigated. You can get a number for them over the internet. I did and I got my unemployment as well after they lied to get it denied. After I hired a lawyer I was given a separation notice as well. I was fired after I quit so I filed a retaliation wrongful termination along with some other things I feel they based it on. It does take a while for it to be settled but usually when they get complaints on a company by more than 1 indidvidual they usually sue on their behalf. just don't let tem get awa with it. Glad to see you were wise enough just as I was to keep records and document everything. This will go a long way in helping you even if it does nothing more than fix it for the next individual so they don't have to put up with this crap. In the end they will have to pay for their wrongdoings regardless. Best wishes. David Parker has ignored my letters to but I addressed them to both him and the mew CEO Joey Hogan. I would try to write a letter to him first that way that can't say he didn't know anything of it.
