My $55,000.00 1965 GTO

April 2015 I contracted with Coyote Classics to purchase a 1965 GTO Convertible for $55,000.00 it was advertised to be ready in 3 weeks delivery date was 1 March 2016. Upon delivery when the driver was unloading the GTO there were no brakes and he almost hit my neighbors mail box. One of the first questions I asked Mike Sorenson when I contracted for this car was do the numbers match and is this an original car? He said “YES”. This was not true. I do believe that Chad Austin and Mike Sorenson are genuinely good persons however they are car salesmen. Later on Chad informed me the motor (“389”cui) was out of a 1963 Catalina or Bonneville (1964 Pontiac Motors was the transition year)

I later found out the transmission was out of a 1968 GM car. With this set up the transmission sits at a 15degree angle thus not allowing use of the console and the transmission cross-member installed was the wrong one. The fenders do not align with the doors and the trunk lid does not align with the top of the right rear fender. I questioned this before I received the car and was told the issues would be “fixed” at a local body shop they were not. You could hear the transmission grinding into reverse and into 1^st gear as it was coming off the delivery truck. I had the vehicle towed the next day to a reputable repair shop here in Jacksonville, Fla. The mechanics found one brake line that was not tight and fluid was lost. Upon further inspection mechanics found brake shoes installed backwards and the right rear shoes did not fit properly and were not the right shoes for this modelPontiac. Left front brake drum was wore out and we had to search to find a replacement. I just bought a car that was not fit to be driven and it was unsafe. I notified Chad and Coyote Classics did pay for these repairs. When I brought the home I noticed oil drops on my brand new garage floor; the transmission was leaking and the engine rear main seal was bad. I questioned Chad how he could not have noticed the transmission and oil leaks; he could not give me an answer.

Before Coyote Classic would pay for the transmission repairs I had to sign a release agreement which I felt coerced into doing in order to be compensated for the repair bills I had to pay. This clearly shows Coyote Classics did not do a thorough safetyinspection and ignored obvious problems. The motor was rebuilt and had zero miles on it; I drove the GTO about 2200 miles and the engine startedknocking this turned out to be a bad rocker arm which caused the bearing on the crankshaft to wear needless to say I will have to have the engine pulled and install new bearings, rocker arm and crankshaft turned. Chad’s comment was “I’m sorry this happened but you have to talk to the people who rebuilt the motor”. Now I am stuck with a major repair bill. The underside of the car was full of mud when I received it. The new paint job looks good from a few feet away but a closer look you can see flaws. Here is a list of just a few of the items that were not right with this car when it came from Coyote Classics.

• Brakes were inoperable and unsafe

• The 3x2 carbs had wrong size vacuum hoses installed causing an air leak

• Back-up lights were installed with no wiring and did not work

• Driver side arm rest was installed with only one screw two are required

• The convertible top had to be realigned and adjusted

• Transmission had to be rebuilt

• The transmission cross-member installed was the wrong cross-member

• The speedometer did not work correctly

• The left rear axle began leaking

• The drivers door would come partially open when driving down the road

• New windows installed were scratched while at Coyote Classics

I cannot recommend anyone to buy a car from Coyote Classics. I have photos and documentation to support my claims. joe.anniston1@yahoo.com
