Craigslist.org is a fraud. Craigslist will charge you to post advertisements for goods, services and employment, but will invariably fail to post your advertisement for the public to view. Typically, this fraudulent practice, in Craigslist.org terminology, is called "ghosting", a term they coined and which is not consistent with Websters version of the term. What this amounts to is false advertising, a violation of California Business and Professions code 17500, and Unfair Business and Practices as defined in California Business and Professions code 17200, and they should have their assets seized and frozen, and have to account for larcenous activities. Grand Theft California 487 Penal Code and conspiracy should be added to the charges.
When Craigslist.org accepts payment in exchange for advertising it established a business relationship where two parties mutually assent toe basic understanding that goods and services will be dutifully exchanged for money paid. But instead Craigslist.org accepts money, and free postings for that matter, it unilaterally decides whether or not the posting will commence and thus fails to perform under the terms of their contract. And if money is paid and Craigslist.org fails to fulfill the terms of their contract, instead of addressing concerns to valid paying clients, Craigslist.org instead defers the complainant to Craigslist.org "Free Forum" where the complaining client is subject to free advice from unknown parties online that have no affiliation with Craigslist.org, effectively avoiding its obligation to the client. And effectively, the damaged client is left with no goods or services as a result of Craigslist.org's deliberate, fraudulent practices.
